The terrifying heavens inside the box
Chapter 34 The Truth, Returning to One's Roots
"Nancy, you can rest assured now."
Maggie breathed a sigh of relief as she walked out of the hospital.
Nancy frowned slightly, her eyes blank: "I don't understand."
"What don't you understand?"
Why didn't I see Freddy this time?
Maggie's expression changed slightly, and she reached out and pressed her hand firmly on her shoulder:
"Nancy! Where did you hear that name from? It's all over now. There's no Freddy."
Nancy looked up abruptly, staring at her. "Why? Mom! I really need you to tell me! Who is Freddy? Why do you all know who he is, but won't you tell me?"
Maggie sighed. "We're not telling you because we don't think you need to get involved in this."
"He's coming to kill us! You still think this has nothing to do with us?"
Seeing Nancy's eyes redden and tears welling up, Maggie finally softened.
"...Let's go."
The car drove home, and after Maggie went inside, she went to the basement door and looked back at her:
"Come down with me."
"I'll tell you who Freddy Krueger really is."
Nancy, filled with doubt, followed her mother downstairs.
The cellar was dark and oppressive.
Maggie squatted in front of the old boiler, reached inside, and pulled out something wrapped in oilcloth.
"He was a deranged killer who preyed on children."
"At least twenty children have died at his hands in this area."
"They're all kids from the neighborhood."
Maggie stared blankly ahead, her mouth still talking, but her mind was clearly still immersed in the past.
"We were all terrified when we found out it was him."
"But things got even worse after he was arrested."
Nancy asked, puzzled, "Why?"
"Someone forgot to sign the search warrant, so all the evidence found is null and void."
"Lawyers who win cases make a lot of money, and judges become famous as a result."
"And that's how Kruger was released."
Nancy's heart tightened; she dared not think about the truth that was about to unfold, but she still couldn't help asking her mother.
"What did you do afterward?"
Maggie closed her eyes, her voice hoarse: "A group of us parents went everywhere looking for him, trying to bring him back."
"He was eventually found in the boiler room of the abandoned factory."
"He always brought the children there."
Maggie opened her eyes and then lowered her head, her knuckles turning white from clenching her fists.
Nancy's voice trembled, "Go on!"
"We poured gasoline around the boiler room, all the way outside the door."
"Then they set it on fire and burned it down."
Nancy's eyes were red, and she stood frozen in place.
She finally understood.
Why does Freddy have to hunt them down in his dreams?
This is revenge!
The psychopathic killer who came back from the dead is announcing his return!
Maggie knew nothing about this. "He couldn't possibly be here to harm you."
"He's dead, baby. Mommy killed him."
To prove she was telling the truth, she even opened the package in her hand.
"I also took his knife."
Upon seeing those claw gloves, Nancy felt increasingly powerless.
Tears streamed down her face as she thought of the deaths of her friends Tina and Rod.
After learning the truth, Nancy didn't know who to blame.
Her mind was in complete chaos, and she couldn't utter a single word.
Seeing this, Maggie put the things she was carrying back into the boiler, hugged her daughter, patted her back, and gently comforted her:
"It's alright, Nancy."
"You'll be able to get a good night's sleep tonight."
……
One night passed.
Nancy woke up and instinctively reached for the mirror by the bedside before realizing what was happening.
"Has Freddy really been arrested?"
"Then...who killed Rhodes?"
She thought this problem would bother her for a long time.
It wasn't until breakfast time that the news came on TV.
"Local police discovered the bodies of two more teenagers in a residential area near Elm Street early this morning. The deceased are..."
Upon hearing this, Nancy instinctively gripped the mirror in her pocket.
As soon as she stepped outside, she saw Glenn, who had also escaped the disaster, driving his red Cadillac.
"Hi! How did you sleep last night?"
Seeing that the other person seemed to have lowered their guard, Nancy poured cold water on him after getting into the car, "Glenn, I have bad news."
"Walter?"
"Freddy, he's still here."
Glenn, who was driving, suddenly jerked his foot and slammed on the brakes, almost sending the two of them to the hospital first.
"Glen!"
Nancy rubbed her forehead, which had just been bumped.
"I'm sorry... I don't understand, wasn't he arrested? Why is he still here?"
Glenn's voice trembled even more as he recalled Freddy's horror.
Nancy couldn't understand either, "unless we can figure out what exactly took him away that night."
Glenn forced a smile: "Are you... joking?"
"Don't worry! Where's your wooden sword? If you didn't take it, go back and get it quickly..."
Nancy initially thought the other person hadn't brought it and was about to ask him to go back and get it.
But to his surprise, Glenn pulled the wooden sword from his back waist in one swift motion.
"Don't worry! The only things I can't live without now are you and it."
"That's good."
Nancy was now completely preoccupied with catching Freddy, and those words that used to move her were now completely forgotten.
After Glenn drove to the school, he looked at his girlfriend, who was still deep in thought:
"Nancy? Nancy! Are you alright? What are you thinking about?"
In the passenger seat, Nancy turned her head, her face serious:
"Glenn, although Freddy isn't coming to us anymore, that's probably only temporary."
"He's killing other people right now!"
"Whatever Freddy is doing, we have to find a way to catch him!"
Glenn asked the crucial question: "So what should we do?"
Nancy shook her head helplessly.
If Freddy doesn't come looking for them, they really won't be able to force him out of his dream like they did last time.
"Perhaps... the old man at the antique shop might have a solution? After all, he seems to recognize these two items."
"Then let's go again after school today."
After they made their agreement, they each went into their respective classrooms at school.
After a day of classes, Glenn drove to the antique shop again.
"Why is it the two of you again?"
Old Chen was dusting the cabinets in the shop when he saw the two people. He immediately remembered what happened last time and didn't give them a friendly look.
Glenn, however, seemed oblivious to the fact that Glenn hadn't noticed and greeted him familiarly.
"Hi Chen, we have some questions we'd like to ask you."
After listening to the two men recount the whole story of their trip, Old Chen's expression improved considerably.
It turns out these two little devils were possessed by something dirty, which is why they took two toys last time, thinking they could ward off the ghost?
They've probably been fooled.
Old Chen shook his head. Although he had never seen a ghost, he had run an antique shop and had come across similar claims to some extent.
In the East, there is a saying: "Fallen leaves return to their roots."
"It means that you must return to your hometown after you die."
"This also applies to the ghosts and evil spirits you're talking about."
"He was burned to a crisp before he died, and his soul left his body and became a wandering ghost. Perhaps you can try to find his body."
Nancy's eyes lit up. "And then?"
Old Chen shrugged and continued wiping the dust.
"And then... how would I know!"
"You should ask a priest or nun about this, instead of coming to an old man like me."
