The terrifying heavens inside the box
Chapter 13 The Curse in the Box
"Why is it another dilapidated house?"
Upon seeing the new scene inside the box, Wang Hao immediately recalled the cabin in the woods from the beginning.
This house is a bit different; it has a style reminiscent of island nations.
The surrounding area was filled with abandoned and dilapidated houses, with vines growing wildly and no one taking care of them. The trees provided complete shade, and not a single person could be seen.
"Why did the map change out of the blue?"
"Could it be that the cabin in the woods is completely gone?!"
Wang Hao's heart tightened.
But the next second, the scene in the box suddenly switched back to the familiar nighttime scene.
"Phew! It's good that I'm back."
He breathed a sigh of relief, staring at the box. A thought flashed through his mind, and the scene inside transformed back into that suburban cottage.
It just so happens that it's still daytime on the new map, which contrasts sharply with the nighttime view of the cabin in the woods.
The colors switch back and forth between black and white.
After Wang Hao had had his fill of playing, he turned his attention to the newly appeared scene.
Through the box, he zoomed in on the house and finally found the information he wanted on the sign on the gate of the courtyard wall.
"The Tokunaga family?"
He didn't have much of an impression, but a quick search on his phone revealed the background information about the house.
"Oh! So it's Ju-on."
"Why is it another horror movie? At least some fantasy or sci-fi scenes would be nice..."
Wang Hao muttered to himself, continuing to gaze at the house filled with "curse".
He had seen this horror movie before, and it was one of his childhood traumas.
But now, it's hard to say who is whose shadow.
"The plot of Ju-on isn't very complicated, and there aren't many points to explore."
"Unlike the world of The Cabin in the Woods, which has a bunch of monsters and evil gods that can cause trouble and attract viewers by constantly making videos."
"The Kayako family's image is too familiar; we can't just film it directly..."
Wang Hao stared at the image inside the box, lost in thought.
Until a little person walked to the outside of the house's courtyard wall.
"Oh? The main character has arrived."
……
When Rika Nishina arrived at Tokunaga's house, she felt a chill run down her spine after just one glance at the old house.
If it weren't for Mr. Hirohashi from the welfare center repeatedly asking her to take over from the missing caregiver, she would never have wanted to come to such a gloomy place.
Rika shrank back, but still gritted her teeth and went forward to ring the doorbell.
The "ding-dong" sound rang out, but no one answered from inside the house.
Is anyone home?
She knocked on the door again, but there was still only silence.
Rika hesitated before grasping the doorknob and gently turning it... The door opened.
She hesitated for a moment, then whispered, "Excuse me," and pushed the door open to enter.
The moment I stepped inside, a musty, sour smell hit me, making my chest feel tight and bloated.
In the entryway, clutter and trash were piled up all over the floor.
Rika glanced at the creaking chandelier above her head, afraid it would fall and hit her.
She covered her nose, forcing herself to suppress her discomfort, closed the door, and called out, "I'm from the social welfare center..."
Before he could finish speaking, a series of banging sounds suddenly came from inside the house.
Her heart skipped a beat, and she peeked out from the right side of the entrance hall.
Behind the frosted glass door of the living room, a hand slowly slid down.
"Grandma!"
Rika rushed into the house, pushed open the door, and saw the old man lying on the ground.
The living room was pitch black, making one feel uneasy.
She quickly drew back the curtains and then pulled open the eaves door leading to the courtyard, letting in the sunlight and fresh air.
The yard was cluttered with miscellaneous items and overgrown with weeds.
Noticing the elderly man sitting on the veranda, Rika walked up behind him. She intended to explain her purpose, but upon seeing the traces of excrement on the floor, she realized that the man was already mentally unstable and unable to take care of himself.
She sighed, fetched a basin of water to wipe the old man's body, and silently tidied up the messy house.
The entryway, living room, yard... Li Jia cleaned them up little by little.
She then picked up the vacuum cleaner to clean up the remaining debris.
Just as it reached the corner of the wall, the machine suddenly stopped.
Rika removed the obstruction and unpacked it to find a crumpled photograph of a family of three, except that the woman's face had been forcibly torn off.
She felt inexplicably uneasy, put the photo on the table, picked up the vacuum cleaner and headed towards the entrance staircase, intending to continue cleaning the second floor.
As soon as Rika reached the top of the stairs, she suddenly heard a scratching sound behind her.
She stiffened and slowly turned her head.
Rika held her breath, followed the sound, walked to the deepest room on the second floor, and pushed the door open.
A chill ran through her, making her hair stand on end.
It's darker and quieter here than downstairs; so quiet you can almost hear your own heartbeat.
Just as she was about to turn and leave.
"Crunch, crunch..."
The scratching sound started again.
Rika was so frightened that she trembled all over, her face turned pale instantly, and she instinctively covered her ears.
When the sound stopped, she slowly lowered her hand and looked at the wardrobe next to her, where the sound had come from.
The gaps in the wardrobe doors had been completely sealed with yellow tape.
Rika's fingertips trembled as she struggled to tear off the sticky tape.
She opened the door and saw a black cat inside, and breathed a sigh of relief.
As the cat ran out and was about to close the closet door, Rika glanced to the side and her pupils contracted.
In the dark corner of the wardrobe, a child covered in injuries squatted there, staring at her without moving.
She opened her mouth wide, her legs went weak, and she collapsed to the ground with a thud.
……
Rika escaped to the living room on the first floor and discovered that the child was the one in the photo.
She bit her finger and, trembling, dialed Guangqiao's number, her voice urgent and shaky, telling him that there were abused children here and asking him to come quickly and find a solution.
After hanging up the phone, Lijia lowered her fingers, intending to take the child downstairs first.
As soon as I stepped onto the stairs and looked up, my heart nearly stopped.
The child was squatting behind the second-floor corridor, gripping the railing tightly, his eyes bulging out, staring straight at her.
Rika took a few deep breaths, trying to suppress the surging fear within her, and forced out as natural a smile as possible:
"What...what's your name?"
"Toshio."
The voice was high-pitched, strange, and lifeless, sending chills down one's spine.
Rika, forcing herself to stay calm, asked, "Toshio... is your mother nearby?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Junxiong turned his head and stared intently at the living room.
Rika's heart sank as she thought of the old man who was still sleeping in the living room.
She rushed over and, as soon as she opened the door, saw the old man sitting on the bed with disheveled hair, muttering something to himself.
"Grandma Sachie, may I help you lie down first?"
Rika tried to comfort him gently, but the other person slowly raised his head and stared at what was behind her.
Her heart skipped a beat, and she slowly turned her head.
Sometime later, the door that had been open in the eaves was closed again, and the sunlight could not shine in, so the whole living room became as dark as it had been when Rika first arrived.
The wall behind me was so black it was frightening.
Even though I couldn't see anything, a strange chill crept up my spine...
Something is in the darkness!
Rika's whole body tensed, her nose stung, and tears welled up uncontrollably; her voice trembled uncontrollably. She forced herself to suppress her fear, turned around, and with great difficulty managed to persuade the old man to lie down.
The next second, she froze on the spot.
A hunched, long-haired black shadow slowly emerged from the shadow where the old man lay, solidifying into a solid form.
Right in front of Rika, the dark figure reached out and grabbed the old man's neck tightly.
A pair of eyes, streaming with bloody tears, opened and stared at her...
Rika's mind went blank, her body went cold, and she almost fainted on the spot.
Just then, a loud "boom" resounded overhead.
Two sharp cones, gleaming with a cold, hard metallic sheen, pierced through the roof and ceiling, embedding themselves precisely in the living room.
The terrifying black shadow was firmly held in place, unable to move.
……
Outside the box, Wang Hao pulled out precision tweezers and looked at the motionless "black rice grain".
"Got you, Kayako!"
