My Three Kingdoms is not right

Chapter 18 Battle of Ying River

"Cao Cao can't escape!"

Yang Feng waved away the scout who had brought the news, and grinned maliciously, "He hastily set up camp and has already lost the initiative. You all quickly prepare your troops and await my command to defeat the enemy in one fell swoop!"

The generals in the tent responded with a resounding "yes."

But one general, with a furrowed brow, stepped forward and said:

"Cao Cao is known for his skill in battle, and his army is well-organized. It will not be easy to launch a decisive attack in one fell swoop. I think it would be better to make careful arrangements and attack in batches."

The woman was tall with straight shoulders, smooth, wheat-colored skin, and a cold, stern expression on her sharply defined face. She was Xu Huang, courtesy name Gongming, a valiant general under Yang Feng.

She was straightforward, and although she saw that Yang Feng looked unwell, she continued speaking:

"Furthermore, the Emperor's entourage and all the court officials are in the camp. In the chaos of battle, if the Emperor's entourage is accidentally injured, it may be detrimental to the Lord's reputation."

No sooner had he finished speaking than a burly general beside him sneered, "Xu Gongming, now that you have the imperial title of Marquis of Duting, your tone of voice has changed? Have you forgotten that your title and official position were all given to you by the lord?"

Xu Huang's expression remained unchanged, but his lips were tightly pressed together, and he did not reply.

She was strict in her military discipline and never really got along with the White Wave Army generals who were used to burning, killing, and looting.

Because of her skill in battle and her meticulous approach to things, the generals could find no reason to attack her.

Seeing Yang Feng's displeased expression, the other generals also joined in the criticism:

"Exactly! Xu Huang, why are you always boosting the morale of others while diminishing your own? Did you perhaps take money from Cao Cao?"

"I think you're just scared! What's so great about Cao Cao? We have so many sisters, why would we be afraid of her?"

"Xu Gongming always abides by the rules of the imperial court, which is quite different from what we roughnecks think!"

……

Xu Huang ignored the sarcastic remarks and simply turned to Yang Feng, cupping his hands in greeting:

"My lord is the General of Chariots and Cavalry of the imperial court. Even if he has a conflict with Cao Cao, he will still have to maintain a long-term relationship with the court. Offending the emperor will only cause more trouble in the future. I am only thinking of my lord's best interests."

Yang Feng looked at Xu Huang, a complex expression flashing in his eyes.

Although she was rough and impulsive, she wasn't entirely oblivious to the logic in Xu Huang's words. However, relying on the superior strength of her own troops and the certainty of victory, she didn't bother to consider such things.

Moreover, she commands a large army, controls Luoyang, and even the emperor has to defer to her. What is Cao Cao compared to her?

If Cao Cao wasn't afraid of her, why would he have humbled himself to give her gifts and say nice things before?

"Alright." Yang Feng waved his hand, his tone somewhat impatient. "I know Gongming meant well."

"Cao Cao is holding the emperor hostage, and we are 'removing the emperor's corrupt advisors' and 'rescuing the emperor'! What infamy could we possibly suffer? Besides, once we defeat Cao Cao, the court will naturally declare us loyal ministers!"

She glanced sideways at Xu Huang, then suddenly grinned. "However, it's good that Gongming is always cautious. Then you will lead the vanguard, taking our elite troops to test the waters of Cao Cao's camp!"

Upon hearing this, the surrounding generals all wore mocking expressions, waiting to see how Xu Huang would react.

The vanguard charging into battle faces the greatest danger; this is clearly Yang Feng's punishment for Xu Huang's "disobedient" words.

Xu Huang was disappointed, but his expression remained unchanged. He simply bowed and said in a calm voice, devoid of any emotion, "This humble general obeys."

Having said that, he turned his horse around and rode back to his unit.

Yang Feng frowned, waved his hand, and said, "You all go and prepare. Today we'll show that traitor Cao what happens when he tries to deceive me, Yang Feng!!"

-----------------

Inside Cao Cao's central command tent, the generals gathered around a map, discussing military matters. A personal guard strode in, kneeling on one knee: "My lord, Princess Wannian requests an audience."

Cao Cao raised his head, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes: "Please."

A moment later, the curtain was lifted again, and a tall, slender figure walked in.

Armored in silver and dressed in a green robe, with a sword at his waist, it was none other than Liu Xun.

Although the helmet brim obscured part of his face, his bright eyes and upright, pine-like figure still drew the attention of the generals in the tent.

After Liu Xun entered the tent, he bowed and greeted Cao Cao without waiting for him to come and greet him.

"Liu Xun, the Grand Master of Ceremonies, pays his respects to General Cao! The Emperor is concerned about the war and has specially ordered Xun to lead the Tiger Warriors to be under your command."

He called himself Guangluxun, which meant that he was not in the army as a "princess" or a member of the imperial family, but as a courtier.

Cao Cao didn't stand on ceremony, nodding and smiling, "Why bother the Emperor's personal troops to deal with mere White Wave bandits?"

Her crimson battle robe accentuated her snow-white skin, which was lined with fine scale armor, and her bright eyes radiated a chilling aura of power.

"However, I am delighted that Your Highness could come."

"Come, come with me and see how I defeat the enemy!"

-----------------

Cao Cao led his generals to a small hill near the front line, from which they could overlook the entire battlefield.

Liu Xun followed behind her, and his view suddenly opened up.

The Ying River meanders beneath our feet, its surface wide and its current gentle.

Meanwhile, Yang Feng's army was surging towards them along the riverbank. Banners fluttered like a forest, and the dust they raised blotted out the sky, creating an imposing sight.

Liu Xun looked at Cao Cao and saw that the young girl had a calm expression, but seemed to have already made up her mind.

At the front of Cao's army formation was a large infantry formation led by Cao Hong.

Facing Yang Fengjun's cavalry charge, they formed layers of defensive formations, remaining as solid as a rock with the support of crossbowmen from the rear.

Although Yang Fengjun suffered a slight setback, he relied on his large number of cavalry to keep charging forward and attacking Cao's army lines.

Swords flashed and the sounds of battle shook the heavens!

As time passed, Yang Fengjun gradually gained the upper hand, and Cao Jun's formation began to falter, with cavalry even tearing gaps in several places.

Just as Yang Feng's third wave of attack arrived, Cao Cao waved his hand.

The commander's flag waved, and the war drums sounded.

A moment later, a group of ambushers suddenly rushed out of the woods to the north of the battlefield.

It turns out she had already set up an ambush here, just waiting for Yang Fengjun to walk right into her trap!

"kill!!!"

The shouts of battle were deafening.

Yang Fengjun's flank was suddenly attacked, and his formation was thrown into chaos.

The cavalry's advantage lies in frontal charges; if their flanks are attacked, they lose their mobility and become passive.

Liu Xun thought to himself: Cao Cao is truly formidable!

She could not foresee the future, but she had anticipated Yang Feng's actions and sent scouts to monitor his movements.

The locations where ambushes were set up and the timing of attacks were all calculated perfectly.

However, Cao Cao did not give up. Seeing an opportunity, she once again ordered the troops of Yue Jin and Li Dian to be deployed to the battlefield.

At this point, Yang Fengjun could no longer hold on.

Looking down at the changing battlefield, Liu Xun felt utterly inferior...

This kind of battlefield awareness and command ability is something that someone like me, a mediocre person, can never match.

Just then, his gaze inadvertently swept across the river to a more distant place, and suddenly his pupils contracted.

"General Cao, look over there!" Liu Xun pointed south.

On the edge of the woods on the south bank of the Ying River, one could vaguely see figures moving flags.

Although Cao's army currently holds the advantage, if those troops are allowed to flank them from the rear, they will be caught in a pincer attack!
