Mobile City Travel Guide

Chapter 7 A Stealer Appears in the House

"My lord, are we really going to make it?"

One of his companions murmured.

The reason he was so cautious was mainly because these animals were simply too huge.

Even when the cattle and sheep were just lying on the ground, their backs were already level with the deck of the Xinghuo.

Those pigs are not to be underestimated either. They are all plump and strong, and once they are startled and start running, they are enough to overturn the entire mobile city.

The chickens and ducks, each several meters tall, were scattered in groups throughout the barn, flapping their wings and moving quickly from time to time—in fact, their agility made them the biggest threat.

Li Xin himself was also a little apprehensive, but in order to obtain food, he finally gritted his teeth and ordered the troops to advance.

So the Starfire slowly sailed into the barn, and everyone on deck held their breath, staring intently at the enormous machine around them.

During this time, several giant cattle and sheep lying in the middle of the aisle twitched their ears, slowly turned their heads, and looked at the Starfire and the people on the deck with their eyes as big as door frames. Although their gaze was slow and dull, it weighed heavily on everyone's hearts.

Several giant pigs grunted and snorted as they passed by, confronting the Starfire. Their eyes widened as they scrutinized the tiny figures on its deck. Just as everyone's tension was building, the pigs seemed to lose interest, grunted a few more times, and then walked away.

The most dangerous thing was a flock of chickens.

As the Starfire passed a haystack, several chickens that were dozing on top of it suddenly sprang up without warning and pounced on the deck! Just as everyone instinctively wanted to pull the trigger, they flew straight over the city—it turned out they just wanted to peck at the corn kernels on the ground.

"Damn it." Someone muttered under their breath, their voice weak.

Finally, the group safely crossed the herd of livestock and arrived at the warehouse area.

Li Xin breathed a sigh of relief.

"We've finally arrived."

Before he even had to say a word, his companions had already eagerly begun their operation.

Some started up robotic arms, picking up chicken and duck eggs as big as millstones from the haystacks. Others started up cranes, hoisting cartloads of vegetables and fruits onto the deck. Still others took out water pipes and dipped them directly into tin barrels the size of houses to draw milk.

Lu Chen then led a few people to discuss how to get the meat off the iron hooks—this meat was not as easy to get as they thought, because it was equivalent to most of the Starfire, and if the whole ship were to fall down, it could sink the ship.

"This is the first time I've ever seen so much meat!"

As he led the group past Li Xin, he couldn't stop smiling.

"Even if we ate it every day, we couldn't finish it. We'd probably have to dry it, salt it, and store it."

Perhaps because they had been eating potatoes every day for so long in the wasteland, everyone wanted to carry away as much food as they could fit.

Standing atop the watchtower, watching the continuous stream of food being brought up, Li Xin's long-tense nerves finally relaxed a little.

However, a few minutes later, a roaring sound suddenly came from outside.

The sound came from afar, deep and powerful, penetrating the thick wooden walls of the barn and even causing the ground to tremble slightly. He paused for a moment, then narrowed his eyes.

Is this another mobile city initiative?

But he soon realized something was wrong, because the sound was much more intense and deafening than that of the moving city, as if it were a giant machine in operation.

The scene shifts outdoors, where an old-fashioned pickup truck slowly drives up and eventually stops beside the barn.

The car door opened, and the two giants jumped out, casually closing the door behind them—the sound of the door closing was like two mountains colliding, causing dust to fall from the barn.

These are the farm owners, a pair of middle-aged brothers.

The older brother was lean and wiry, with narrow eyes and prominent cheekbones, his gaze revealing a shrewd yet sharp and sarcastic look. The younger brother, though broad-shouldered and burly, seemed extremely afraid of his older brother, always shrinking back timidly when looking at him.

After getting off the bus, the skinny giant didn't rush into the barn. Instead, he turned around and gave his younger brother a good scolding. The younger brother hung his head dejectedly, occasionally raising his eyes to timidly glance at his older brother before quickly lowering them again.

This sudden turn of events left everyone on board the Starfire stunned.

The barn had only one exit, which was currently blocked by two giants.

As the skinny giant was pointing at his younger brother and berating him, an impatient cough suddenly came from inside the car. The former snapped out of his daze, immediately ran to the back door, and respectfully opened it with a forced smile.

Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, the third giant stepped off the vehicle.

He was dressed in a well-tailored black tuxedo, wearing a wide-brimmed hat, leaning on a cane, and sporting a meticulously trimmed mustache.

As Li Xin looked at it, he couldn't help but raise his eyebrows in surprise.

I never imagined there were capitalists in the world of giants?

The skinny giant bent over and eagerly led the other man to the barn door, pointing and introducing it. As he spoke, he repeatedly turned his head and winked at his younger brother, signaling him to come and chime in.

The latter paused for a moment, then awkwardly approached and started a conversation.

The capitalist-looking giant, however, appeared arrogant. He stroked his small mustache and casually pointed at various parts of the barn, seemingly nitpicking. The skinny giant, sweating profusely, explained and gave his brother a shove, urging him to hurry up and tidy up the barn and the messy livestock.

"My lord, what should we do now?"

Lu Chen asked in a low voice.

Li Xin rubbed his forehead in exasperation. At that moment, Xinghuo was dealing with a giant piece of meat hanging on an iron hook. In order to take it down, he had mobilized all the engineering equipment and manpower in the city.

At this moment, the robotic arm was still suspended in mid-air, the crane's steel cables were taut, and the movements of the group of people on the deck were all frozen.

"...Forget about this piece of meat," he said in a deep voice. "Everyone, get into position immediately. We're going to charge out."

As soon as he finished speaking, he suddenly sensed that something was wrong at the entrance of the barn.

Looking up, they discovered that the three giants were staring intently at the Starfire.

The skinny giant's mouth gaped open, his gestures, which had been straining to explain, froze. The fat giant, who had hurriedly picked up a broom, stood frozen in place, almost dropping it. The capitalist giant's hand, which was twirling his beard, also froze in mid-air, his eyes slowly widening in disbelief.

None of them expected that a group of little people would appear in the barn to steal food, and that they would even be traveling in a cleverly designed and novel vehicle.

After a brief silence, the skinny giant was the first to recover. He stomped his foot and let out an angry roar. The fat giant, on the other hand, quickly threw down his broom, grabbed a pitchfork leaning against the wall, and charged fiercely toward the Starfire.

The skinny giant rushed to the car and pulled out a double-barreled shotgun. He deftly loaded it with one hand, while simultaneously putting his fingers in his mouth and letting out a sharp, piercing whistle.

Immediately, barking came from outside, growing louder as two ferocious, giant dogs charged into the barn.
