Full-Time Magister: Rebirth of Mo Fan as the Primordial Evil Phoenix
Chapter 40 Brother Mo Fan?
Chapter 40 Brother Mo Fan?
It was quiet outside for a long time, but Mo Fan did not fall asleep.
The old wolf lay on the edge of the sofa, its head resting on its front paws, glancing at him every now and then, as if it knew it had gotten into trouble that night.
Mo Fan stared at it for two seconds.
When he returned to his residence, he wanted to send the guy back to the dimensional space, but the old wolf raised its front paw, pointed at Mu Nujiao, and scratched its own head, clearly indicating that it could still make amends.
Seeing that Mo Fan didn't speak again, it slowly shrank, eventually becoming about the same size as a husky.
Mo Fan leaned back on the sofa, his eyes downcast, his fingertips tapping the back of his hand absently, his mind replaying the scene that had unfolded in the woods.
The old wolf has hidden mines, fire wings, and can shrink its body.
Mo Fan frowned, about to go through it again, when a very soft sound suddenly came from the inner room.
It sounded like someone had turned over in a dream, causing the thin blanket to rustle softly.
He paused suddenly, glanced at it from the side, and finally walked over.
The door wasn't closed properly, leaving a small crack, and it opened easily with a gentle push.
The lights in the room were still on, casting a warm yellow glow on the bedside, softening the silhouettes of people.
Mu Nujiao lay there on her side, her brows slightly furrowed, as if she were dreaming about something.
Mo Fan stood by the bed for two seconds, his gaze falling on the stray hairs that had fallen across her forehead. Just as he was about to reach out and brush them aside, he heard her murmur softly.
"Mo Fan..."
Mo Fan paused slightly.
In that instant, the room seemed to become even quieter, and it was as if Mu Nujiao's soft breathing could be heard throughout the room.
Mo Fan looked down at her, his Adam's apple bobbing slightly, and after a long while, he responded softly.
"This is really a headache."
The person on the bed seemed to hear it, yet also seemed not to hear it; only their furrowed brows gradually relaxed.
Her fingers moved unconsciously, as if searching for something, and finally gently touched the back of his hand hanging by the bedside.
My fingertips felt slightly cool.
Mo Fan could have stepped back, but when that chill came over him, he inexplicably didn't move.
Mu Nujiao seemed to touch him instinctively, her fingers curling slightly, and she actually hooked her hand gently around his.
Mo Fan looked down at their hands touching, his expression a mix of emotions. In the end, he sighed silently and sat down on the edge of the bed.
"You're quite formidable in the woods, aren't you?" he said in a low voice, as if afraid of startling her. "You even know how to look for people in your dreams."
The person in bed, of course, wouldn't reply to him.
When she was asleep, her usual aloofness and competitiveness were softened by the darkness of the night. A few strands of hair were pressed against her face, and the tips of her ears were faintly pink under the light. She was quiet and unlike her usual self.
Mo Fan looked at her for a while, and finally raised his other hand to pull the thin blanket up for her.
Mu Nujiao was startled by the commotion and trembled slightly, but her fingers did not loosen; instead, they tightened even more unconsciously.
Mo Fan's lips twitched, as if he wanted to laugh, or as if he was a little helpless against her.
"Fine," he said in a low voice, "I'm just unlucky tonight."
Despite saying that, he did not pull his hand away.
The night deepened.
He later dimmed the lights in the room, leaving only a warm glow on the bedside. Mu Nujiao slept much more soundly in the latter half of the night, her breathing became even, and her brows no longer furrowed.
Mo Fan sat on the edge of the bed, letting her hold his hand, his other hand supporting his forehead, his eyelids slowly drooping.
When I woke up again, it was already morning.
A sliver of pale morning light peeked through the gap in the curtains. The room was quiet, and even the air seemed to have been washed clean.
Mu Nujiao opened her eyes first.
She was still somewhat dazed at first, her gaze lingering on the ceiling for a moment before she slowly recalled what had happened last night. The competition, the limpness, being picked up, the river breeze at night, and Mo Fan's soft whisper in her ear, "Hold on tight."
As her memories slowly returned, her ears suddenly felt hot.
Then, the next second, she realized something was wrong.
My own hand felt like it was grasping something.
Mu Nujiao froze for a moment, then slowly lowered her head and saw the person sitting by the bed.
Mo Fan leaned against the wall, his head slightly turned to the side, as if he had simply made do with sleeping. The morning light slanted across his face, diminishing the relaxed atmosphere of the woods and creating an unusual tranquility.
And her hand was gripping his fingers.
Mu Nujiao's mind went completely blank for a moment.
She almost reflexively tried to loosen her grip, but as soon as she moved, Mo Fan seemed to sense it, his eyelashes trembled, and he slowly opened his eyes.
Their eyes met unexpectedly, and for a moment, time seemed to freeze; only the pounding of their hearts could be heard.
Mo Fan first glanced down at their hands, which were still joined together, then looked up, a slight smile playing on his lips, his voice carrying a teasing tone.
"Still holding on to it?"
Mu Nujiao recoiled as if burned, immediately pulling her hand back and averting her gaze, though she still tried to maintain a calm tone.
"You—what are you doing here?"
Mo Fan stretched his hands, which had gone numb from staying in one position all night, and slowly stood up.
"That's a novel question." He glanced at her. "I don't know who it was last night who wouldn't let anyone leave even when they were asleep, holding on tightly and refusing to let go."
Mu Nujiao suddenly turned her head: "I didn't!"
"No?" Mo Fan raised an eyebrow, his tone lazy. "Then do you want me to help you remember? Not only are you holding me, but you're also..."
"Shut up!"
Mu Nujiao's cheeks flushed instantly, and even the tips of her ears turned noticeably red. She glared at him, half of her usual aloofness returning, but the embarrassment and annoyance in her eyes were impossible to suppress.
Seeing her like this, Mo Fan's smile widened, but he knew when to stop and didn't tease her any further.
"Okay, that's enough." He turned and walked towards the table. "Let's see if there's anything else that's bothering you."
Mu Nujiao pursed her lips and tried to move her hands and feet.
The numbness from last night has mostly subsided; my body is still a little weak, but it's much better than it was during the night.
She let out a soft breath and whispered, "It's nothing."
Mo Fan poured her another glass of water and handed it to her, then pulled the curtains open a little. The morning light streamed in, illuminating the entire room.
"It's good that you're alright," he said. "Otherwise, I'd have to carry you back."
Mu Nujiao took the water glass, her fingertips touching the warm glass. She remained silent for a moment before looking up at him.
"Last night—you just sat there all night?"
Mo Fan casually rubbed the back of his neck, his tone nonchalant.
"You're overthinking it. I took a nap in the middle." He paused, then added, "Besides, someone's holding me so tightly, I can't leave even if I wanted to."
The buzz surrounding Mu Nujiao, which had just subsided, is starting to rise again.
This time, she didn't argue back. She just lowered her head and took a sip of water, using the action to suppress her unease.
A low wolf howl suddenly came from outside.
The two turned their heads at the same time and saw Old Wolf poking half his head in from the doorway, his eyes scanning them back and forth as if to check if the atmosphere was safe.
Mo Fan narrowed his eyes.
"You still dare to come and see? Look what you've done!"
The wolf's ears twitched, and it silently pulled its head back halfway.
Seeing this scene, Mu Nujiao couldn't help but let the corners of her lips curve slightly.
The smile was faint, yet genuine; bathed in the morning light, it seemed to brighten the whole person.
Mo Fan was about to continue scolding Lao Lang, but when he caught her smile out of the corner of his eye, he suddenly paused.
He looked at her for two seconds, then suddenly said, "You seem to be in a good mood today, Miss."
Mu Nujiao stopped laughing, raised her eyes, and resumed her usual indifferent expression.
"Who's in a good mood?"
"Fine, if you say no, then no." Mo Fan didn't expose her, but instead looked at her with a faint smile on his lips. "But you look much better like this than when I held you last night."
"Mo Fan!"
She was really angry this time, and grabbed the pillow next to her and threw it at him.
Mo Fan reached out and caught it steadily, his smile widening even more.
The somewhat awkward atmosphere in the room was instantly dispelled by this commotion.
Before Mo Fan could speak again, there were two soft knocks on the door.
The next second, a familiar voice came through the door.
"Brother Mo Fan?"
Mo Fan's smile froze instantly.
