Full-Time Magister: Rebirth of Mo Fan as the Primordial Evil Phoenix

Chapter 10: Tonight we'll be facing more than just one?

The sensor-activated glass doors of the Hunter's Hall slid open to both sides, and the smells of sweat, cheap tobacco, and the cold air from the old air conditioner rushed onto Mo Fan's face.

The hall was noisy. The area in front of the big screen was crowded with hunter mages accepting bounties. Some were slamming their fists on the table and cursing over the rewards, while others were wrapped in bandages, trying to share the bounty's prize.

Mo Fan stood at the door, pulled down his black mask, and then pulled the hood of his oversized black cloak-like hoodie down further. He looked down at himself, making sure that his fully covered appearance showed that he had completely shed the naivety of a second-year student at Tianlan Magic High School, before taking a step forward.

After passing through the crowded mission hall and the public rest area, I turned into an internal corridor. The temperature here was much lower than in the hall, the walls were damp, and there was a strong smell of disinfectant.

At the end of the corridor is a frosted glass door with a wooden sign that reads "City Monster Hunting Team".

The door wasn't closed properly, leaving a crack. The sounds of several people arguing agitatedly could be heard from inside.

"That giant-eyed, fishy rat is too cunning." This was Captain Xu Dahuang's voice, sounding somewhat annoyed. "If we can't find that giant-eyed, fishy rat soon, there'll be more trouble tonight! This area is under our jurisdiction!"

Then came Guo Caitang's icy voice, her tone habitually arrogant: "The background of the photo is full of dilapidated sewer pipes. There are countless abandoned sewers like this in the north of the city. How can you find it with just a blurry screenshot from a surveillance camera? Are you suggesting we turn the entire north of the city upside down?"

"Sister Caitang, Captain, please stop arguing... We haven't had a good rest these past few days." A timid, soft-spoken girl's voice broke in, tinged with helplessness.

"Yeah, Captain, it's so hot. The more anxious we are, the less clues we'll find. Why don't we grab something to eat first?" Another deep male voice, chewing something, echoed incoherently.

Mo Fan, who was standing outside the door, stopped in his tracks.

Through the crack in the door, he saw Xu Dahuang pacing back and forth, scratching his head. Guo Caitang sat beside him, arms crossed, her long legs folded, her eyes and brows as cold as if covered in frost. Sitting in front of the computer, with a ponytail and a stack of folders, was the water mage Xiao Ke, who looked petite and endearing. Leaning back on the sofa, with a round belly, and popping peanuts into his mouth, was the earth mage Fei Shi.

There was also Li Wenjie, a wind mage standing by the window, with sharp eyes and remaining silent.

They're all here, all alive and well.

The blood-red security at the former World Expo City, the man who rushed to the cave entrance with half his body torn apart by demons; the woman who was dragged into the demon's belly without even leaving a complete last word... they are all standing here now, perfectly fine, able to argue, get angry, and give people the cold shoulder.

Mo Fan's Adam's apple bobbed as he forcefully suppressed the emotions surging in his chest. He reached out and pushed open the door, walking in with a nonchalant air.

Upon hearing the door open, everyone turned to look at the entrance.

"Who are you? This is the internal office of the City Monster Hunting Team. No unauthorized personnel allowed!" Guo Caitang frowned and spoke sharply, as if she had found an outlet for her emotions.

Mo Fan didn't reply. He went straight to the desk and picked up the blood-stained photo in the middle.

"It's not in the north of the city."

Mo Fan flicked his finger along the edge of the photo.

The office fell silent instantly.

Xu Dahuang's face darkened: "What gives you the right—"

"Based on this," Mo Fan pointed to the lower right corner of the photo, "the dark, hardened mud next to the rat's paw is crystallization from being soaked in highly concentrated industrial wastewater. The only place in Bocheng that can discharge wastewater of this color is the meat processing plant in the south of the city. It left traces in the north of the city, but they just flowed over along the sewers."

Xu Dahuang snatched the photo, brought it up to the light, and his expression changed slightly. Sure enough, there was an inconspicuous dark red mark near the giant-eyed rat's paw.

Guo Caitang was stunned for a moment. She could tell that the stranger was right. And it was precisely because he was right that it made her even more uncomfortable. A wisp of cold air emanated from her palm, and the temperature in the room suddenly dropped. A layer of frost quickly formed on the outside of the glass of water beside her.

Mo Fan didn't even blink at this show of force.

He tapped his fingers twice on the table.

"Paz"

A wild, black arc of electricity shot out from Mo Fan's fingertip without warning.

The electric arc struck the glass with pinpoint accuracy. The layer of frost didn't even have time to melt; it was instantly vaporized by the domineering lightning, hissing as it turned into a wisp of white smoke. The surrounding chilling aura was also pulverized by the lightning's intense heat.

Guo Caitang felt a tingling numbness in her fingertips, which caused her entire arm to twitch uncontrollably. She quickly pulled her hand back, her nails digging into her palm.

Mo Fan put away the black arcs of electricity still flickering at his fingertips and raised an eyebrow at Guo Caitang: "Don't always drink ice water, it's bad for your health."

Guo Caitang was stunned. The temper that had just risen within her was blocked by those words, and her ears inexplicably felt hot.

"Lightning... Lightning element?!" Xu Dahuang suddenly stood up, not even caring that he knocked over the metal chair behind him, his voice so loud it was deafening.

"One in a thousand awakens the lightning element! To deal with the demons hiding in the sewers, this is simply a sure kill!" Fatty's fat face trembled wildly with excitement.

Xiao Ke's gaze towards Mo Fan completely changed; it held less fear and more admiration for the strong.

"My name is Fan Mo. I'd like to join the demon-hunting operation tonight. Can I join you?" Mo Fan smiled. "The sewers are full of stagnant water. My lightning magic is more effective than anything else."

"I'll bring it! I'll definitely bring it!" Xu Dahuang grinned, his face flushed with excitement, and quickly stretched out a rough, large hand.

Li Wenjie, who had been silent the whole time, glanced at Mo Fan a few more times.

A young lightning mage who can see through the traces of demons at a glance.

Is this kind of person really just here to freeload?

Mo Fan didn't pretend to be aloof. He reached out and grabbed Xu Dahuang's hand.

My palms were rough, covered with thick calluses, and felt hot and real.

Mo Fan held this hand, the veins on the back of the hand bulging slightly, and the pressure was three times greater than usual.

"Great! Eight o'clock tonight, in the back alley of the meat processing plant in the south of the city." Xu Dahuang patted Mo Fan's shoulder hard.

Mo Fan released his grip and turned to walk out.

"Captain." Mo Fan didn't turn his head, leaving only his back view, but his voice could be heard clearly in the noisy hall, "Don't worry. With me here, no one in our team will get into trouble in the future."

Xu Dahuang watched Mo Fan walk away, scratched his head, and muttered, "That kid, we've only just met, why does he talk like an older brother?"

Mo Fan turned and walked to the door, but suddenly paused.

Beneath the dark red mud stain in the photo, there is a drag mark almost covered by blood.

His eyes darkened slightly.

If this wasn't left by that giant-eyed, bloody rat.

Tonight, we'll probably be facing more than just one.
