HP: Those Years Sleeping with the Half-Blood Prince
Chapter 40: Treatment Plan
On the weekend, he went to Flip Lane again, and this time, he didn't take any detours and went straight to Mr. Bokin.
"A high-purity, potent, and relatively controllable bone-healing agent, or an equivalent that can accelerate bone healing."
Ian got straight to the point, placing a small, heavy bag of Galleons on the counter. "The sooner the better, the source must be clean, and the effect must be reliable."
Mr. Borkin's small eyes darted back and forth between King Galleon and Ian's faces, and he rubbed his fingers together. "Little Borkin, you always bring some... interesting requests. Potent Bone Spirit, that stuff isn't easy to get, and it's risky."
"As you know, the Ministry of Magic is very strict about these kinds of healing-accelerating potions, especially those that could be misused for... certain illegal dueling side effects."
“I know the rules, and I can afford the price.” Ian remained unmoved. “I just want the stuff, and I want it fast. My friend got injured in training and needs to recover quickly so he can participate in an important match. That’s all.”
"That's all..." Mr. Bokin drawled out his words. Finally, he slowly turned around, rummaged around in a locked drawer behind the counter for a while, and took out a small crystal bottle sealed with black wax. There were no labels on the bottle.
"It's a secret formula that leaked from a... retired therapist. It's been improved and is said to be the culmination of his life's work. It has a better analgesic effect and the bone remodeling speed is about 40% faster than the standard bone regeneration formula. But the process is still not easy, and it can only be used once. As for the price..." He quoted a number.
Ian didn't haggle, counted out the corresponding Gallon, pushed it over, and picked up the crystal bottle. "How do I use it?"
"Take orally, three drops each time, mixed with water or milk, once a day, preferably before bedtime. Combine with a relaxing massage and immobilization to avoid strenuous activity. Remember, this is the only dosage; stop once it's used up. Also..."
Mr. Bogin lowered his voice, "Don't even mention that it was bought from me. That therapist's 'improvements' weren't fully approved by the Wissengamo Medical Council."
"Understood." Ian carefully put the crystal bottle into his inner bag.
Ian returned to Hogwarts with the potion and gave it to Severus for examination.
Severus spent the entire night carefully analyzing the potion's ingredients and effects, and finally, he nodded to Ian.
"The purity is extremely high, and the formula... is indeed unique. It is theoretically feasible, but the actual effects and individual reactions still need to be observed."
At the same time, Severus also brewed a balm and an oral potion to aid the effects of the bone-regenerating agent.
Aris meticulously calculated the medication schedule, Kevin's daily nutritional needs, and even designed a gentle limb movement program that did not involve moving the injured arm.
Kevin was taken back to his dorm to recuperate, and all that was said to the outside world was that his injuries required rest.
Every night, Ian would carefully give Kevin a diluted dose of the potent Bone-Generating Elixir, while Severus would apply the ointment and guide the potion's effects with his wand.
Aris was responsible for recording Kevin's body temperature, pain levels, and subtle changes in his arm.
The process was not easy.
Even with improvements, the tingling and numbness caused by rapid bone growth still often woke Kevin up at night in pain, leaving him drenched in cold sweat.
But he gritted his teeth and endured it, his eyes becoming incredibly determined whenever he thought about the competition.
A week later, when the temporary bandages were removed for inspection, even Severus was somewhat surprised.
The fracture healed much faster than expected, the bones aligned well, and the swelling and bruising subsided very quickly.
Mrs. Pomfrey was quite surprised during the examination, but attributed it only to "young people's strong recovery" and "good fixation".
Another week passed, and with three days left until the Quidditch match, Kevin was able to carefully move his fingers and wrists. Although he was still hesitant to exert force, the wooden boards that held him in place could be removed.
He was overjoyed and almost gave Severus another hug, but the other man dodged him.
"You can play on the day of the match, but you must wear arm protectors and can only do limited activities. You absolutely cannot engage in head-on collisions."
Severus warned sternly, "If the bone cracks again, not even Merlin can save your arm, let alone Bone Spirit."
"Understood! Absolutely obey orders!" Kevin excitedly waved his still somewhat weak arms. "As long as I can play!"
Ian breathed a sigh of relief as he watched Kevin regain his energy, but the anger that had been simmering since Kevin's injury had not subsided.
He looked at Severus, his voice calm but chilling: "Kevin's arm is almost healed, but this matter can't be left like this."
"Porter hit someone, and he only gets a few days of detention and a one-game suspension?" Ian smirked, but there was no smile in his eyes. "That's too lenient on him."
Severus remained silent, his dark eyes unfathomable. He neither agreed nor disagreed, but after a while, he said softly, "Tell me when you need to."
"Mm." Ian nodded.
……
Kevin's recovery was a small miracle, at least within the Slytherin team and Ian's inner circle.
When Captain Theodore saw Kevin remove his brace and do an acclimatization flight while only wearing a protective arm brace, he raised an eyebrow in surprise, but ultimately didn't ask any questions. He simply patted Kevin on the shoulder, told him to be careful, and tacitly approved his inclusion in the game roster as a substitute batter.
James Potter was indeed suspended. He sat on the Gryffindor bench with a gloomy face, his messy hair seemed even more disheveled, and his eyes were fixed on the field, especially in the direction of the Slytherin team.
Sirius Black sat beside him, equally displeased. The two spoke in hushed tones from time to time, their gazes unfriendly. Lupin looked tired and worried, while Peter Pettigrew huddled behind, occasionally glancing at Potter and Black.
Ian, Severus, and Aris were sitting in the front row of the Slytherin stands, in good positions with a clear view of the entire stadium.
The match began, and both sides quickly got into the game.
Without James Potter as their key Seeker, Gryffindor's offensive firepower was clearly weakened, but their Seeker was quite strong, so Slytherin couldn't afford to be complacent.
Captain Theodore commanded with composure, and Slytherin, with their superior teamwork and slightly better batters, gradually gained the upper hand.
Kevin was substituted on in the last ten minutes of the first half. The protective gear on his arm was somewhat noticeable in the sunlight, but he moved nimbly and without any hesitation.
A beautiful arcing shot sent the runner precisely to the Gryffindor chaser who was trying to break through, forcing him to abandon his shot and earning a cheer from the Slytherin stands.
"It seems like he's recovering well," Aris calmly remarked.
Severus didn't look at Kevin. His gaze swept over James Potter's increasingly unpleasant face on the Gryffindor bench, before settling back on Ian's expressionless profile.
In the second half, Slytherin continued to apply pressure, capitalizing on a Gryffindor passing error, with the Chaser scoring to widen the gap to sixty points.
In the end, amidst gasps of surprise, Slytherin's Seeker made a dramatic dive and caught the Golden Snitch, ending the match.
