As the morning light pierces through the thin mist of Hong Kong's urban area, it spills onto the rows of buildings. The streets are bustling with traffic, and various signs light up one after another. The sounds of Cantonese vendors hawking their wares and car horns intertwine, creating a vibrant and lively atmosphere of everyday life.

Holding Zhang Lingyun's hand, Zhang Zeyang followed behind twelve special forces soldiers, walking through the bustling crowd. They stood out from the surrounding prosperity, attracting frequent glances from passersby. However, the cold aura emanating from the special forces soldiers made curious eyes only dare to observe from afar, and no one dared to come forward and ask questions.

The six special forces soldiers who went ahead to meet them knew the way well. They turned into two streets and stopped in front of a three-story Western-style building. The exterior walls of the building were covered with ivy, and a gold-plated signboard hung at the entrance that read "Chen's Law Firm". The lintel was clean and tidy.

"Sir, we've arrived." The lead special forces soldier reported in a low voice, and stepped forward to push open the glass door. A faint smell of ink mixed with the scent of wooden furniture wafted out.

Inside the reception desk sat a clerk in a suit. Upon seeing the group enter, she immediately stood up and greeted them with a smile. Although her Cantonese accent was distinct, it was still quite clear: "Gentlemen and ladies, please come in." Her gaze swept over Zhang Zeyang and his group, a knowing glint in her eyes. Hong Kong was a melting pot of people, and many came from the mainland seeking legal status and a place to settle. She was used to it and continued to warmly lead them to the meeting room, serving them several cups of hot tea before quickly going to fetch the lead lawyer.

The reception room was simply and elegantly furnished, with polished wooden tables and chairs and several calligraphy and paintings hanging on the walls. Zhang Zeyang led Lingyun to sit on the sofa. Lingyun held a warm teacup, her small eyes curiously looking around, occasionally leaning close to Zhang Zeyang's ear and whispering, "Brother, it's so clean here." Zhang Zeyang nodded gently, reached out and patted her head, his gaze falling towards the doorway, already having made his plans.

A short while later, a middle-aged lawyer wearing a dark suit and gold-rimmed glasses walked in. His hair was neatly combed, and his expression was gentle yet shrewd. He was none other than Attorney Chen, the head of the law firm.

He smiled and extended his hand, speaking in slightly broken Mandarin: "My name is Chen Jingshan. May I ask what brings you here today that you need my assistance?"

Zhang Zeyang stood up and shook hands with him, stating his purpose directly: "Attorney Chen, there are fourteen of us who would like to trouble your firm to help us obtain Hong Kong residency as soon as possible. The fees are negotiable."

Upon hearing this, Chen Jingshan's eyes flashed with understanding. He glanced at everyone present without making a sound. Zhang Zeyang and his sister were dressed simply but had a calm demeanor. Their twelve companions were tall and straight with sharp eyes and stood as neatly as pine trees. They were clearly not ordinary illegal immigrants.

Having worked in this industry in Hong Kong for many years, he knew the ins and outs of it. Some things didn't need much questioning; as long as the money was earned and the process was safe, that was enough. He immediately smiled and nodded in agreement: "Sir, rest assured, our firm is very familiar with handling identity matters. We guarantee it will be safe, compliant, and won't delay your affairs at all."

He didn't inquire about the people's origins or pry into their past, and this transparent attitude pleased Zhang Zeyang quite a bit.

Chen Jingshan was decisive and immediately instructed the clerk to bring the photography equipment and led everyone to the office's small photography studio to take pictures.

It was Zhang Lingyun's first time having her picture taken, and she was a little reserved, clutching Zhang Zeyang's clothes tightly. Zhang Zeyang gently patted her back to comfort her, while Chen Jingshan smiled and handed her a piece of fruit candy, coaxing her softly, "Don't be afraid, little girl, smile, and you'll look good in the picture."

Zhang Lingyun took the candy, unwrapped it, and put it in her mouth. The sweet taste spread, and her tense face gradually relaxed. She smiled slightly at the camera.

Fourteen people took photos in turn. The special forces soldiers looked solemn and stood upright. Even when the camera was fixed on them, they remained vigilant. Chen Jingshan didn't say much. He just asked the clerk to quickly organize the photos and carefully register everyone's basic information. Each of the twelve special forces soldiers also had a name, and they matched each other correctly.

"Please wait a moment, everyone. I'll take the photos to the police station to complete the formalities. I should be back by noon at the latest." Chen Jingshan put away the photos and registration forms, smiled, cupped his hands in greeting, and then hurriedly left with the clerk.

The meeting room fell silent. The special forces soldiers were scattered throughout the room, some guarding the door, others keeping watch by the window, their eyes alertly watching for any movement outside. Zhang Zeyang sat with Zhang Lingyun on the sofa, peeling fruit candies for her and gently reminding her not to wander around in unfamiliar places.

Zhang Lingyun nodded obediently, leaning on Zhang Zeyang's shoulder as she ate candy. Sunlight streamed through the window, warming her face.

Looking out at the street scene, Zhang Zeyang's thoughts were churning. He had traveled from a remote mountain village to Hong Kong in just two days, which felt like a lifetime. Now that his identity was in the works, he could finally relax. The next step was to settle down and find a safe place to live.

Time passed slowly, and the sunlight outside the window gradually moved to its zenith. The calls of vendors from lunch stalls drifted down the street, their enticing aromas wafting into the meeting room. Lingyun rubbed her stomach and whispered, "Brother, I'm hungry." Zhang Zeyang was about to instruct the special forces soldiers to buy some food when footsteps sounded outside. Chen Jingshan strode in, carrying a briefcase, a smile on his face: "Mission accomplished! Everyone's ID cards are ready!"

He placed fourteen brand-new ID cards on the table. Each card had a photo of the person on it, complete information, and a clear stamp, indicating that they were processed legally.

Zhang Zeyang picked up his and Zhang Lingyun's ID cards, his fingertips tracing the names on the documents. From now on, the two siblings could finally stand upright in Hong Kong.

"Attorney Chen is indeed very efficient," Zhang Zeyang praised. He then asked about the service fee, and Chen Jingshan quoted a fair price. Zhang Zeyang did not haggle and simply took out US dollars from his pocket to pay the full amount.

Chen Jingshan's smile widened as he looked at the thick wad of US dollars. He personally escorted everyone to the door and said warmly, "If you ever need anything in the future, please feel free to come to me. I will do my best!"

The group thanked Chen Jingshan and turned to leave the law firm. The midday sun was a bit too bright, so Zhang Zeyang raised his hand to shield Lingyun's eyes. Looking at the bustling street in front of them, he said, "Let's find a hotel to rest first. We've been traveling all night and we're all exhausted."

The twelve special forces soldiers nodded in unison, and the captain leading them immediately stepped forward to guide them. Before long, they found a clean and tidy mid-range hotel.

Zhang Zeyang booked seven rooms, one for the brother and sister and one for the twelve special forces soldiers. After checking in, the group had lunch and Zhang Zeyang told everyone to go back to their rooms to rest. He instructed them to come to the hotel lobby around 3 p.m. because he had something to give them. Then he took Zhang Lingyun's hand and led her into the room.

The room was fully equipped, and the bed was soft and clean. As soon as Zhang Lingyun entered, she ran to the bedside and sat down, curiously touching the sheets. Zhang Zeyang smiled and poured her a glass of warm water. Watching her sip the water, he felt at ease.

After a long night of travel, Zhang Lingyun was exhausted. She drank some water and lay down on the bed, soon falling into a deep sleep.

Zhang Zeyang also took a nap. In the afternoon, after waking up, he quietly looked at his sister for a moment to make sure she was sleeping soundly before tiptoeing out of the room and into the hotel lobby.

Twelve special forces soldiers were already waiting there, all in high spirits and showing no signs of fatigue. Zhang Zeyang walked up to them, took out a stack of brand-new US dollars from his pocket, counted out 20,000 and handed it to the leader.

"Take this $20,000 and find a reliable real estate agency. I need to buy a house in Hong Kong. It needs to be in a good location, have good security, and be big enough for the fourteen of us to live in. The sooner the better."

In his view, a hotel is not a long-term solution. Only by buying a house can one truly settle down in Hong Kong, providing Lingyun with a stable home and giving himself and others a place to stay.

The team leader accepted the US dollars with both hands and solemnly said, "Please rest assured, sir, we will get it done as quickly as possible!"

"Okay, go ahead."

The captain immediately nodded, turned and left with six special forces soldiers, while the other six stayed behind with Zhang Zeyang.
