The night was as dark as thick ink, staining the rolling mountains and fields black. Zhang Zeyang carried Zhang Lingyun and followed steadily behind the four special forces soldiers.

At this moment, Zhang Lingyun bit her lip and remained silent, only gripping her brother's clothes tighter with her small hands. Her round eyes sparkled in the night, full of curiosity, showing no fear whatsoever.

Just half a mile from the village, Zhang Zeyang heard the faint sound of horses' hooves in the darkness ahead. He looked up and saw a carriage with a black cloth covering its roof standing quietly by the roadside. Two strong black horses were leisurely swishing their tails, and two tall, dark figures stood beside the carriage. As they approached, they immediately bowed and saluted. These were the people the special forces team had arranged to meet them in advance.

"Sir, this is the carriage we specially prepared," the special forces squad leader reported in a low voice.

Zhang Zeyang felt a warmth in his heart. He hadn't expected these people to be so thoughtful. He looked down at his younger sister, Lingyun, who was looking up at the carriage with curiosity, her little mouth slightly open and her eyes full of wonder.

"Thank you for your hard work." Zhang Zeyang nodded slightly and carefully carried Zhang Lingyun onto the carriage.

The carriage was covered with a thick layer of dry straw and a layer of old cotton wadding, making it soft and comfortable to sit on.

He followed closely behind and got into the car. As soon as he was seated, the special forces soldier outside the car conveniently stepped onto the carriage shaft, cracked the whip and gave a light shout. The two black horses immediately started moving, and the wheels rolled over the dirt road, making a soft creaking sound. Under the cover of night, the group sped off into the distance.

The remaining five special forces soldiers split into two groups. Three rode horses to protect the sides of the carriage, while the other two brought up the rear. Their figures moved like ghosts through the night, vigilantly watching for any movement around them.

A night breeze, carrying the chill of the mountains, slipped in through the gaps in the carriage curtain. Zhang Zeyang reached out and pulled Lingyun's cotton-padded coat tighter, then pulled the curtain closed a little more. The little girl, however, peeked out through the gap and whispered to him, "Brother, the carriage is so fast! Faster than a big yellow dog!"

Zhang Zeyang smiled and ruffled her hair. His fingertips touched the warm top of her head, and the tension in his heart eased slightly.

The carriage moved steadily and quickly, passing through quiet mountains and forests and desolate fields. There were no unexpected incidents along the way. There were no checkpoints patrolling at night, nor any travelers. Only the sound of horses' hooves and wheels intertwined in the night, accompanied by the occasional chirping of insects from the mountains, which created a unique tranquility.

Lingyun was still young, and she got sleepy after sitting for a short while. She leaned on Zhang Zeyang's shoulder, her little head nodding, and soon she fell asleep with even breathing.

Zhang Zeyang gently held her head to help her sleep more peacefully, while he opened his eyes and looked out at the night sky with a deep gaze.

The carriage sped along for an unknown amount of time before finally coming to a stop. A deep voice came from outside: "Sir, we've arrived at the ferry."

Zhang Zeyang's heart skipped a beat. He didn't wake Lingyun, but instead carried her off the carriage.

Looking around, there was a remote ferry crossing. Reeds grew thickly on the bank, and the wind rustled through them. The turbid river water shimmered with a dark light, and a small boat was vaguely moored on the river in the distance. It was the smuggling boat that had been arranged in advance.

"Please wait here, sir, while we go to make the handover," the captain instructed in a deep voice. He left two special forces soldiers to guard Zhang Zeyang and his sister, while the other four quickly walked towards the covered boat on the riverbank and arrived at the boat in the blink of an eye.

Zhang Zeyang held Zhang Lingyun in his arms, standing beside the reeds, his eyes fixed on the awning boat.

After the four boarded the boat, they whispered a few words to the boatman, who nodded and waved towards the shore, indicating that they could board.

The four immediately turned back, gave Zhang Zeyang a reassuring gesture, and then escorted the brother and sister towards the riverbank.

At this moment, Zhang Lingyun woke up, a little scared, and hugged Zhang Zeyang's neck tightly, her small body trembling slightly. Zhang Zeyang gently patted her back to comfort her: "Don't be afraid, brother is here."

As soon as they reached the side of the boat, the captain stopped, turned to Zhang Zeyang, and said respectfully, "Sir, please pay another ten thousand US dollars."

Before Zhang Zeyang could ask, the captain immediately explained, "The smuggling fee is one thousand US dollars per person, so for the fourteen of us, it's fourteen thousand US dollars. Of the remaining six thousand US dollars, five thousand has been given to the six brothers who went to Hong Kong first to take with them, to ensure that the two of you can pass through without any problems after you get ashore."

The rest we only bought some dry food on the black market to fill our stomachs, and didn't touch a single penny.

Upon hearing this, Zhang Zeyang understood. This special forces team was indeed prudent in its actions, considering every aspect thoroughly.

Without hesitation, he took out the US dollars he had prepared beforehand, handed over 10,000.

The captain took it with both hands and then helped Zhang Zeyang and his sister board the awning boat.

The boat captain was a middle-aged man with a weathered face and cloudy but shrewd eyes. He glanced at the special forces soldiers on the boat and saw that they were all tall and straight with sharp eyes and a hint of killing intent about them. He dared not be negligent in the slightest.

The crew members were all seasoned travelers, and they had never seen anything like this before. They dared not have any other thoughts, and one by one they lowered their heads, quickly put away the gangplank, untied the ropes, and the awning boat slowly sailed away from the shore, heading towards the center of the river.

The journey was exceptionally smooth; the river was calm and peaceful, and there were no patrol boats or the legendary double-crosses.

After all, the captain and crew knew perfectly well that these people were not to be trifled with. If they knew what was good for them, they could make a living in peace. But if they dared to have any crooked thoughts, they probably wouldn't even know how they died.

The cabin was cramped and filled with a faint fishy smell. Zhang Lingyun felt a little uncomfortable and leaned against Zhang Zeyang's chest, coughing softly twice.

Zhang Zeyang held her on his lap, gently patting her back. His gaze was fixed on the river through the small window of the cabin. The river water shimmered coldly in the night, and the road ahead seemed uncertain.

Everyone on board was silent. The special forces soldiers stood on both sides of the cabin, their eyes warily scanning their surroundings, while the captain and crew did their respective duties and dared not utter a word.

The covered boat moved silently on the river. Time passed slowly, and around three in the morning, the boatman suddenly whispered, "We've arrived."

Zhang Zeyang immediately got up, carried Lingyun to the side of the boat, and looked towards the shore.

The banks of the Xiangjiang River were completely silent, with jagged rocks along the shore, and several dark figures could be vaguely seen standing there in the darkness.

The covered boat slowly approached the shore. Before it had even come to a complete stop, a dark figure on the shore quickly came to meet it. It was the six special forces soldiers who had arrived in Hong Kong earlier to provide support.

"Sir, you must be tired from your journey." The six men quickly stepped forward, bowed respectfully, and then handed over several bundles and a few sets of brand-new clothes. "Sir, Madam, these are clothes prepared for you. These bags are for our old clothes and equipment, to avoid attracting attention when we enter the city."

Zhang Zeyang took the clothes; these people were incredibly thoughtful. He helped Zhang Lingyun to a nearby rock to change. The new clothes were pure cotton, soft and warm, much more comfortable than her old cotton-padded coat.

Little Lingyun, dressed in her new clothes, blushed and happily shook Zhang Zeyang's hand, whispering, "Brother, the new clothes are so pretty."

The special forces soldiers quickly packed up their equipment, including weapons and combat uniforms, and also put away Zhang Zeyang and his sister's old clothes. Their movements were swift and efficient, without any hesitation.

By the time everyone had finished getting ready, a faint dawn was breaking through the clouds and shimmering on the river.

Without delay, the group headed towards the city center under the escort of twelve special forces soldiers. Along the way, pedestrians gradually appeared, mostly early-rising workers. They were curious about the group but didn't ask many questions.

The twelve special forces soldiers split into two teams, one in front and one behind, protecting Zhang Zeyang and his sister in the middle, vigilantly watching their surroundings, and proceeded smoothly without any obstacles.

As dawn broke and the sun rose, the group entered Hong Kong's urban area.

The streets were bustling with traffic and pedestrians. Shops on both sides gradually opened their doors, and vendors' cries rose and fell. The high-rise buildings and the constant flow of traffic were a stark contrast to the quiet and secluded mountain village. Zhang Lingyun looked around curiously, her small eyes full of wonder. She held Zhang Zeyang's hand tightly, afraid of getting lost.

After a night of travel, everyone was quite hungry. Zhang Zeyang glanced around and happened to see a breakfast stall on the street corner, with a fragrant aroma.

He led everyone over and ordered a table full of breakfast, including rice noodle rolls, shumai, and porridge. Lingyun ate with great relish, her little mouth stuffed full. The special forces soldiers also ate without ceremony, quickly filling their stomachs while remaining vigilant, their eyes scanning their surroundings.

After breakfast, the six special forces soldiers who had arrived first stepped forward to report: "Sir, the law firm has been contacted. We will take you there now."

Zhang Zeyang nodded, took Lingyun's hand and stood up. The twelve special forces soldiers immediately followed, and the group headed towards the law firm.
