"May the Emperor bless you." Matthias gently placed his hand on Lancelot's face and helped him close his eyes.

After returning from the temporary base of the 13th Regiment, Lancelot entered a very strange state. The supreme commander of the Nest City garrison, who was usually on duty 24 hours a day, unusually locked himself in his room for several days.

During this period, his orders were relayed to other officers by a nobleman who appeared out of nowhere.

The messenger, named Byron Griffin, claimed to be Brigadier General Lancelot's nephew, but he bore no resemblance to his uncle, either in appearance or in his willful behavior.

Most importantly, this guy doesn't look like a soldier at all; he's just a performance enthusiast dressed in military uniform.

These unusual occurrences caused some unease among the crowd, and rumors began to circulate. If Byron hadn't used bloody methods to kill several unruly officers, the place would probably have descended into chaos long ago.

The situation did not change substantially. Lancelot remained in his room, seemingly doing nothing, while his nephew took the opportunity to seize power from several captains, and the relationship between the two sides became increasingly tense.

If things continue like this, a civil war will inevitably break out. To prevent the worst-case scenario from happening, Matthias decides to meet Lancelot in person to find out what has happened.

On the way, a group of guys hiding in the shadows caught his attention.

The fact that he was exposed so quickly was not entirely Redmond's fault. After losing the guidance of Xiao Yi and Astartes, he and the soldiers behind him could only slowly find their way forward.

How could mortals do as perfectly as them? While taking out a sentry, they accidentally triggered an alarm. Fortunately, only Matthias and his newly recruited students in the camp heard it.

All I can say is that it was fate.

After both parties confirmed their identities, Redmond briefly explained Xiao Yi's guess to Matthias. Then, the priest, relying on his status, led everyone in directly.

The operation went so smoothly largely because the sentries' attention was drawn to the battle taking place inside the command headquarters; otherwise, the search alone would have taken a very long time.

Judging from the current situation, Xiao Yi's guess was correct; there was indeed a traitor among Lancelot's entourage.

They manipulated the supreme commander of the hive garrison in a way that was unimaginable to ordinary people, attempting to use him to achieve some evil conspiracy.

Fortunately, all of this is now over.

After offering a fervent prayer for Lancelot, Matthias turned to Xiao Yi and asked, "Do you need my help to summon the other captains?"

The Supreme Commander has lost the ability to continue working, and someone must temporarily take his place. Matthias's choice is the man standing in front of him.

He proved his loyalty to the human empire and the emperor through his actions, punishing all the empire's enemies he encountered.

"Go ahead, but be careful of potential traitors hiding among the crowd. They're like cockroaches; finding one means there's a whole nest nearby."

Matthias nodded and left with his students.

"His safety is in your hands."

Having just checked the surroundings and confirmed there was no danger, Karan nodded and said, "Leave it to us."

The once crowded room was now empty except for Xiao Yi and a few of his men; the alerted sentries returned to their posts.

"What's a cockroach?" Redmond asked curiously as he leaned closer, the name clearly touching on a blind spot in his knowledge.

"An ancient insect creature from Terra, extremely resilient yet repulsive. They could easily continue to reproduce for tens of thousands of years, but I wonder if they still eat people now."

"You mean a worm with two super long tentacles growing on its head?"

"That's right, you've met him before." Xiao Yi was somewhat surprised, not expecting to see a "fellow villager" in a place so far away from Earth.

It seems quite normal to bring a few cockroaches on board during interstellar travel, since no one can say for sure where they might be hiding.

"The lower nest has a special breeding ground for carnivorous insects. The large insects raised there have these two huge antennae, which are one of the main materials for producing carrion starch."

Hearing this, Xiao Yi did not show any shock on his face. Having swallowed rats alive in the bottom nest, he did not care about such trivial matters. As long as he was not told that there were actually human corpses in the corpse starch, everything was fine.

An hour later, except for the commanders of the First, Fourth and Eleventh Regiments who were still out carrying out the mopping-up operations, the other commanders arrived at the command post that Lancelot had set up earlier after receiving a notification from Matthias.

The guys who rose to power through Byron's connections have been dealt with by Kalan, so there are only six captains present so far.

The waiting time was always boring, so a few familiar people gathered together and started chatting.

"Why did Pastor Matthias call us over in such a hurry? What happened?"

"I'm not sure, but I heard it's related to a brigadier general. According to rumors, a fierce battle took place near the command headquarters."

"Hmph, it's best that the old bastard who only knows how to kill is dead. Oh, and that pretty boy who also only knows how to kill."

"Shh, don't say things like that. If he finds out, you'll have a hard time from now on."

"At worst, I'll fight him to the death. We only have one life anyway, so who's afraid of who?"

"He's a nobleman, and nobles are different from us."

"What's different?" A somewhat familiar voice suddenly interrupted the conversation, and the group leaders fell silent and looked at the previously empty doorway.

Xiao Yi stood there with a serious expression, with Matthias and Karan standing on either side of him.

Even the captains who had emerged from piles of corpses felt tense at this sight, and they subconsciously stood up and gave Xiao Yi an Imperial Eagle salute.

Xiao Yi didn't stand on ceremony. He waved for everyone to sit down and then walked straight to the main seat. Redmond, who was following behind, carried up Byron's corpse and Lancelot's empty shell.

Looking at the motionless brigadier general and his corpse, everyone was shocked and didn't know what to say for a moment. Fortunately, Xiao Yi didn't make them wait long.

"The main reason I called everyone here today is to discuss who should be given the position of new commander. As for what happened to the brigadier general, let Reverend Matthias tell you about it."

Whether these people in front of him would believe him was a question Xiao Yi had never considered.

With the double guarantee of the State Priest and the Imperial Angel, even if Byron were an ordinary person, he would be labeled a heretic, let alone since he himself had betrayed the Empire.
