Chapter 24 You wouldn't even call me Godfather
"So, legally speaking, should I call you father?"
Sherlock's face was full of speechlessness as he pointed to himself with one hand and Tony with the other, asking.
As it turns out, people really do want to laugh when they're speechless to the extreme. Zhao Weike and his wife are the best example. If it weren't for the seriousness of the matter itself, the two of them would probably have been laughing so hard they were doubled over.
Even so, the two of them had an even harder time suppressing their smiles than AK did after the shock. After all, who would have thought that Sherlock, who was forced to go on a mission, would actually end up with a nominal father?
Seeing Sherlock's completely bewildered expression, Tony smiled and nodded to Sherlock without hesitation, even speaking to him with a hint of pride.
"Legally speaking, you should indeed call me father."
Tony's words only made things worse. After he said them, Sherlock felt his blood pressure spike. Looking at Tony's face in front of him, with his smug expression and the twitching mustache from his smile, he felt a surge of anger.
Sherlock swore that this was the first time in his two lives that he had felt such an urgent urge to engage in a pure physical fight with the person opposite him.
Seeing Sherlock's disgusted expression, Tony felt he had finally gotten revenge for the torment Sherlock had inflicted on him in the Middle East. He shamelessly pretended to be dejected and continued speaking to Sherlock while sitting in the luxurious airline chair with his head bowed.
"You won't even call me Godfather..."
As soon as Tony uttered those movie-like lines, Zhao Weike and Helen couldn't hold back any longer and burst into laughter, clutching their stomachs.
Amidst their laughter, Sherlock's face flushed red, and without a word, he lunged at Tony across from him.
After a period of playful banter, Tony and Sherlock, both with bruised and swollen faces, sat down in their respective seats again, each with a person sitting next to them.
Sherlock was with Zhao Weike, and Tony was with Helen.
What they had in common was that both Zhao Weike and Helen wore suppressed smiles, giving the impression that they wanted to watch the show but had to stop it.
Doro, however, was oblivious to what had happened. He sat at the table, happily eating the fruit in his hand, looking completely satisfied.
After finally calming Sherlock down, Tony covered his dark circles under his eyes, which were caused by Sherlock's punch, and continued to speak to Sherlock.
"That's enough joking around. I'm sorry about your parents' passing, but what I just said is true..."
Before Tony could finish speaking, Sherlock tried to stand up again, almost to fight Tony, but Zhao Weike forcefully pressed him down.
Seeing Sherlock being pressed down again, Tony breathed a slight sigh of relief and continued speaking to Sherlock.
"The reason I'm telling you this is because I've noticed that people from S.H.I.E.L.D. have started to appear around you."
Listen, Sherlock, the deaths of your parents are not as simple as a plane crash. There are too many mysteries involved, and too many people are involved.
The reason I haven't fulfilled my guardianship duties even once over the years is this: too many people are watching me.
I don't know how you acquired such extraordinary abilities, but what I do know is that if you really don't want to get involved in trouble, you should stay as far away from organizations like S.H.I.E.L.D. as possible.
Or to put it bluntly, you shouldn't have participated in this mission to rescue me, and you certainly shouldn't have displayed your extraordinary abilities during this mission.
Tony spoke earnestly, and Sherlock could sense the concern in Tony's words. However, the message conveyed by Tony's words felt deafening to Sherlock, like a thunderclap.
The deaths of my parents were not as simple as a plane crash.
Tony is being watched by countless people.
What is the connection between S.H.I.E.L.D. and this incident?
Upon hearing Tony's words, Sherlock felt as if an invisible net had been enveloping him since before he transmigrated.
What Sherlock didn't expect was that when he heard that his parents' plane crash was not a natural disaster but a man-made one, an inexplicable surge of boundless anger welled up in his heart.
Sherlock clearly knew that he had no feelings for his so-called parents, and didn't even know them, but the flame in his heart burned brighter and brighter, like an endless fire.
In that rage, Sherlock clearly sensed a thought.
revenge!
"Fine, since I've inherited your body, I've also inherited your karma. Since you desire revenge, then I'll help you achieve it!"
The moment Sherlock had this thought, the boundless flame of revenge in his heart vanished without a trace, yet a hint of anticipation lingered in his mind.
After taking a deep breath, Sherlock looked at Tony across from him and said.
"Whether I should have gotten involved or not, I am now! And if I didn't know, that would be one thing, but now that I know my parents didn't die from a natural disaster, but from a man-made one, if I really don't do something, then I would truly be unworthy of being a son."
Upon hearing Sherlock's words, Tony was about to say something when Sherlock raised his hand to interrupt him.
Sherlock grinned maliciously before continuing to speak to Tony.
"Moreover, now that I'm facing those conspiracies and schemes, those rats hiding in the sewers, I might just be capable of crushing them!"
Hearing Sherlock's words, Tony raised his eyebrows slightly, seemingly puzzled as to where Sherlock's confidence came from.
However, as Sherlock explained his alchemy, Tony's expression quickly changed from initial doubt to shock, then to disbelief, and finally, with a look of utter disbelief, he pointed at Doro on the table and asked Sherlock.
"So, you're saying this thing is essentially a product of your failed attempt at forbidden human transmutation? A living being?"
Upon hearing Tony's words, Sherlock gave Tony a wicked smile and replied.
"Yes, that's right, I did create Doro, but at the cost of my arm and an eye!"
So, strictly speaking, Doro is my child, a soul truly born from my flesh and blood!
At this point, Sherlock paused slightly, his mischievous grin deepening, and continued speaking to Tony.
"So strictly speaking, you're Doro's grandfather! Come here, Doro, call him grandfather!"
"grandfather!"
Although Doro didn't understand what "grandfather" meant, he never refuted Sherlock's words. He immediately put down the orange in his hand, looked sweetly at Tony, and called him "Grandpa."
As soon as the word "Grandpa" appeared, everyone clearly saw a crack appear on Tony's face, and then he pointed at Sherlock as if his whole body was about to split open.
He was a perfectly good single man, and now he has a child in the legal sense and is raising a child in the moral sense, not to mention he has inexplicably become a grandfather.
The most crucial point is that whether it's him, the grandfather, Sherlock, the child, or Doro, the granddaughter, they are all single!
Tony was now beginning to regret why he had ever flirted with Sherlock. He should have kept Sherlock's true identity a secret until his death!
