Faced with the berserker's questioning, the captain instinctively grabbed the rope knot of the package. {What? You don't know yet? | Read COM, read error-free chapters | Go Google it now!}

"These are just some basic supplies, there's no need to check them, right?"

Despite saying this, the captain's eyes were fixed on the berserker, guarding against any possible attack.

"Well... it's not impossible." The berserker pondered for a few seconds before giving a somewhat unexpected answer. But before the human team could even rejoice, the great demon pulled out two dice: "However, as a generous reward, you'll have to play a game with me."

"A game? What game?" The captain immediately became alert.

"It's not difficult at all." The Berserker chuckled. "We just roll the dice together, and whoever gets the higher number wins. If you win, I'll let you go. But if I win, the loser will have to take my knife."

This game sounds pretty good, but looking at the berserker's massive, gate-like cleaver, everyone knows that the price of losing is basically your life.

"What if we don't play?" the captain asked tentatively.

"Then you must submit to inspection!" the berserker cackled. "If the package indeed contains contraband, then you will all die!"

The captain swallowed hard. "If we win, can you guarantee you'll keep your promise?"

"We can sign a contract with you!" the berserk demon laughed. "We demons value contracts the most. You humans should know this after dealing with us for so many years."

As he spoke, a gaunt demon stepped forward, holding a yellowed parchment. As its claws brushed across it, the contents of the contract appeared on the paper—the very bet the berserker demon had just mentioned.

However, some details were refined. For example, any human could challenge the berserker. If they won, everyone could leave with their loot, but the penalty for failure had to be borne by the person who rolled the dice. If it was a tie, another round would begin. No matter how many times they lost, as long as there were still humans alive, the game could continue until either a victor left or everyone died.

Furthermore, the Berserker's slashes can only be defended against, not dodged. Dodging them is considered a violation of the rules and will require inspection...

With the rules confirmed to be largely correct, the captain, having no other choice, finally agreed to sign, and the contract took effect.

"Very well." The berserker toyed with the two dice in his hand. "So, who wants to be the first to challenge?"

Just as the captain was about to step out, he heard someone behind him volunteer.

"I'll do it!"

A tall figure stepped past the captain and stood in front of the berserker.

This guy was extremely tall, exceeding three meters in height with the aid of his mechanical armor, making him a head taller than the burly captain. He carried a one-handed sword in his right hand and a huge shield hanging from his left.

"Talos, you..."

"Captain!" The soldier wielding the giant shield waved his hand, "You are our strongest asset, you absolutely cannot be wasted here! And..." He licked his lips, turning to look at the troll, "I've long wanted to experience the power of the berserker!"

"What? Have you chosen your target yet?" The berserker slung his greatsword over his shoulder.

"It's me! Talos the Shieldbearer!" Talos shouted.

"Very good." The berserker tossed one of the dice to Talos: "I'll say three, two, one, let's roll them together, the one with the higher number wins."

"No problem!" Talos raised the fist-sized die and threw it out along with the berserker as the countdown began.

The two enormous dice rolled on the ground, and soon the berserker's die settled down, showing a three on the top side!

All of humanity breathed a sigh of relief. Three points, which means Talos has a 50% chance of winning!

However, as Talos's dice stopped spinning, everyone gasped.

Two points!

It's exactly a little less than a Berserker!

"Hahahaha..." The berserker let out a wild laugh: "Kid, your luck isn't so good. Well then, are you ready to take my blade?"

"Bring it on!" Talos planted his giant shield on the ground, bracing it with all his might, ready to receive the attack.

The berserker didn't play any tricks; it raised its cleaver and smashed it down head-on with its shield!

Boom!

The clash of sword and shield generated a visible shockwave. The immense force dented the top of the shield and drove the bottom into the hard ground.

As for Talos behind the shield, he still maintained the same shield posture, but his figure was shorter. Upon closer inspection, his heavy armor was deformed!

With a clanging sound, damaged parts fell to the ground one by one, and Talos himself lost his footing, collapsing to the ground with a thud while wearing damaged armor.

"Talos!" Two soldiers immediately rushed forward, frantically dismantling the armor and dragging out Talos's true form. He was bleeding from all seven orifices, had multiple fractures, and was unconscious. Fortunately, he was still alive!

"Heal him quickly!" the captain shouted. A priest in the group, wielding a short-handled hammer, stepped forward. The gem on the hammerhead emitted a soft white light, enveloping Talos.

"He's out of immediate danger..." After casting a spell for a moment, the priest breathed a sigh of relief: "However, his injuries are too severe. To fully recover, he can only receive treatment from the sanctuary after returning to Griffin City."

"It's good that you're still alive..." The captain breathed a sigh of relief.

"Humans are still too fragile..." the berserker chuckled coldly. "I only used half my strength, and he couldn't hold on. So, who's next to play with me?"

"I'll go!" Another pikeman stepped forward, but was stopped halfway by the captain's raised hand: "Let me do it... If Talos couldn't handle it, then I'm the only one with any hope. Don't make pointless sacrifices!"

"It should have been done a long time ago!" The Berserker raised his hand, sending one die flying back to his grasp and the other towards the captain: "This time, I'll use only a fraction of my strength, so be prepared!"

As the countdown ended, the two dice landed, and soon the captain's die settled down, showing a five!

Cheers erupted from the human side; five points meant victory was practically assured!

But their joy didn't last long, because the Berserker's dice rolled a six!

How could this be?! The human squad erupted in desperate cries, while the captain raised his greatsword, ready to parry.

The berserk demon chuckled and swung his machete down with one hand, while the captain, wielding his sword with both hands, thrust it upwards with all his might!

Clang!

The explosion was even louder than before, and the shockwave even caused the surrounding soldiers and demons to raise their hands to cover their eyes.

However, the captain who received the blow remained in a blocking posture and was knocked back more than ten meters, leaving two furrows in the ground with his feet.

"Wow, this is definitely something else!" The berserker whistled in delight.

"Phew..." The captain breathed a sigh of relief and stretched his body, the joints of his armor making a mechanical grinding sound.

His armor was of exceptional quality, and his own abilities were even greater. He did indeed withstand the blow, but it was by no means easy.

If what the Berserker said is true, and that last strike really only used three-tenths of its force, the captain estimates he could only withstand a maximum of five-tenths. This time, he managed to weather the storm, but the next time might be different.

But no one but him could complete this bet.

Thinking of this, the captain took off the package and handed it to the priest, then walked back to the berserker, head held high and chest puffed out:

"Continue, I'll do it!"
