Chapter 49 The Exchange, the Secret Behind It
Ron kept thinking about what the old man Lyon had just said, and upon hearing his words, he refused without even thinking.
It's not that he wasn't interested in the so-called mechanical wizarding tradition.
But this matter involves too much, and I'm worried that I won't be able to handle it.
"Mr. Ron, are you really not interested? This is the legacy of a fully-fledged wizard."
Upon hearing his refusal, Lyon immediately became anxious. After all, Ron's bloodline wizard heritage was extremely important to the entire Ranna family; otherwise, he wouldn't have kept seeking him out.
"Mr. Lyon, as you know, all the major wizarding academies strictly prohibit the dissemination of these things. Even if I were to exchange them with you and obtain the inheritance, it would be of no use to me."
"Besides, why do you insist on exchanging this inheritance with me?"
"You should also know that the prerequisite for a bloodline wizard to cultivate is to possess the corresponding bloodline. However, the Moloch Firefeather Bird bloodline left by Wizard Mel has already been used up by me. Even if you obtain the inheritance, you won't be able to use it, right?"
Ron looked intently at the old man before him, his words filled with consideration for the other man's well-being.
But he knew in his heart that if he didn't understand the hidden dangers behind it, he would never do business with this old guy, even if he reported it to the academy.
"Hehe, Mr. Ron, if that's the case, I think you don't need to worry at all."
"Oh?"
"Do you think the path of the mechanical wizard is wrong?" Leon countered.
Ron shook his head. To be honest, from his modern perspective, the path of the mechanical wizard was not only correct, but could even be said to be the most promising path among all cultivation methods.
Of course, the idea that "flesh and blood are weak and meat are weak, while machines are immortal" is somewhat extreme.
Undeniably, objectively speaking, he was not actually opposed to this, or rather, if it weren't for practical considerations, he would have been quite willing to accept the deal.
However, regardless of the final outcome of the so-called Cult of Machines back then, or Lyon's inexplicable enthusiasm now, he has to treat this matter with caution.
"Then what reason do you think the various wizarding academies of Valantia have not to accept this path?"
Lyon's words came again, immediately getting to the heart of the matter.
That's right, would anyone refuse a magic stone that's delivered to their door?
Yes, but definitely not many.
Put yourself in their shoes. If you were faced with such a brand-new cultivation system, one that could even bring huge profits, why would you refuse it?
At this moment, a thought suddenly popped into Ron's mind:
Could it be that those wizarding factions are actually secretly researching this entirely new path of wizardry?
"Mr. Ron, so there's really no need to worry about that. Just think about it, the knowledge passed down by a formal wizard is such a tremendous treasure!"
At this moment, Lyon was like a pyramid scheme leader, constantly using words to bewitch the young man in front of him.
If Ron were really just a fifteen-year-old, he might actually believe it.
Unfortunately, his experience from two lifetimes had long since rendered him immune to the influence of others' words. All that this old fellow said was simply an attempt to amplify his own inner greed.
Once he agrees, the other party's goal will be achieved.
But from beginning to end, this old man kept avoiding one question: why did he insist on getting the bloodline wizard inheritance into his hands?
Logically speaking, this guy already has a formal wizarding inheritance, so why would he need to exchange it with me?
Or is it this kind of inheritance with such great flaws? This is clearly unreasonable.
Behind every transaction lies an exchange of interests. If the contributions from both sides are unequal, then one of them must be concealing information about the benefits.
"Mr. Lyon, you haven't answered my second question yet."
Ron stared blankly at the increasingly intense gaze in the other's eyes and said this indifferently.
Upon hearing this, Leon, who had been watching him intently, suddenly froze, his smile vanishing. He gave Leon a deep look before saying:
"Mr. Ron, I underestimated you."
As he spoke, the other person put down the teacup he had been holding and then slowly stood up.
"Actually, it wouldn't hurt to tell you, but I just felt it wasn't necessary before. Since you want to know..."
Leon paused, then slowly unbuttoned his shirt, revealing the skin beneath. Then, his aged fingers lightly traced a line across the skin, and something unexpected happened to Ron.
Suddenly, a circular hole appeared in his chest.
Inside the cave entrance was not a heart, but a rhombus-shaped object that resembled a magic stone, but was much larger than a magic stone.
Red light flowed slowly across it, and countless lines connected to the "magic stone," like blood vessels connecting to the heart.
This scene immediately reminded Ron of the information in the evaluation section when he checked the other person's panel earlier:
[Comment: There seems to be some kind of strange modification happening to his body.]
At that moment, Lyon's aged voice rang out again:
"Isn't it interesting? That's the charm of machines!!!"
Seeing the other party's slightly deranged face, Ron took a small step back, and magical energy began to emanate from his body, ready to make a move at any moment.
"Don't be nervous, Mr. Ron. Didn't you want to know why I've always wanted to exchange inheritances with you? This is the reason."
"I'm about to die, but they keep watching me, always watching the legacy in my hands. I want to go out and see the world; I haven't had a chance to really see it yet."
"Ancestor, why do you keep cursing Rangna? Was that bet really that important? We are your children."
"Once the deal is done, they'll stop watching Nurs, the ancestral curse will disappear, and I can finally go out and see the world! Hahaha, hahaha!!!"
Listening to the other person's illogical words and their increasingly morbid smile.
Ron suddenly felt a chill in his heart.
It's always like this.
From what the other person said, he had already guessed a vague answer.
As descendants of the remnants of the former Cult of Mechanics, the various wizarding academies have been keeping a close eye on the Ranna family, hoping to gain benefits from them, namely, the legacy of those mechanical wizards.
However, it seems that the ancestors of that family placed some kind of restriction on their descendants, not allowing them to pass on the inheritance, and they have been waiting for this "transaction" to come.
Although there are still many things that cannot be explained: for example, why the family members were not allowed to take the inheritance themselves, and why the major wizarding academies would care about the inheritance of a "mere" formal wizard.
But these are the best explanations he can think of now.
"Mr. Ron, how is it?"
With a smile returning to his lips, Leon seemed to have vented his anger and looked at Ron, asking a question.
Watching the other person's skin gradually peel off, and the high-speed rotating parts inside.
Ron did not refuse again and completed the transaction with the other party. He then quickly left the place, fearing that something unexpected might happen if he stayed any longer.
