Chapter 45 The Mysterious Wedding
One week later.
"marry?"
"Yes, sir, Miss Lillian of the Jang family and Young Master Cadir of the Anderson family will be getting married tomorrow. This is their invitation to you."
Ron took the gold-plated invitation, engraved with a blood-red moon and a pale sun, from the old butler, his brows furrowing into a deep frown.
He waved his hand, signaling the old man in front of him to go out first.
Upon seeing this, the old butler immediately understood, bowed, and slowly withdrew from the living room.
The empty hall was empty except for the boy and the invitation card in his hand, which was gleaming faintly.
"What exactly is this all about?"
My mind kept wandering to the unusual aspects of this matter. No matter how I thought about it, it seemed suspicious, but I couldn't quite figure it out and didn't understand what the other party's intention was.
Could it be that they just wanted me to come to their house as a guest? Am I, a mere novice wizard apprentice, really worth them going to such lengths?
He thought and thought, but he still couldn't figure it out.
"Whatever, I'm not going no matter what."
He thought to himself that as long as he didn't go out, trouble wouldn't come knocking on his door no matter what.
He was just about to throw the invitation away when, for some inexplicable reason, he became curious about its contents. He withdrew his hand from the trash can and slowly opened the "generous" invitation.
It was this one click that changed his mind.
As Ron stared intently at each word, his already furrowed brows furrowed even deeper.
[Dear Mr. Ron:]
[Wizard Mel, the gentleman from the "Nest of the Phoenix," you must be familiar with him. Would you like to know his secrets?]
[Welcome to Lillian's room at 8 PM tonight.]
Lyon Jeanne
"How did they know about Wizard Mel and the 'Nest of the Phoenix,' as well as my relationship with this person? And what about the secrets I hold? Do they know who's behind the manipulation of 'fate'?"
Ron's mind kept flashing back to the memories of his contact with that family, but he couldn't glean any useful information from them.
First, there was news about Wizard Mel and the Phoenix Nest. Perhaps this gentleman had left some traces in Nur's City before, which made others aware of it, which is not surprising.
After all, it is very difficult for a person to erase all information about themselves from this world.
But secondly, how did the other party know that they had a connection with Mr. Mel?
Logically speaking, the only person who knew about this, the Tuva city lord, had already disappeared, and no one else should know about it except for himself.
But the current situation is that the other party not only knows, but may even have guessed, that it was he who took the inheritance of Wizard Mel.
This reveals a very dangerous signal: is the other party using this matter to threaten me?
The legacy of a formal wizard is incredibly precious, even to a fool.
If the other party were to spread this news, I probably wouldn't live to see the day I return to the academy.
As for why that old guy didn't just come and snatch the inheritance, Ron guessed that perhaps the other party had some unspeakable reason.
At this moment, some dangerous thoughts had begun to form in his mind. If he wanted to keep the other party from telling anyone, there might be a more suitable way, and he was confident that he could do it. However, until the very last step, he was still hesitant to do it, as it went against his original beliefs.
"One last thing, does that old guy know my 'secret'?"
He was somewhat incredulous; he himself had no idea what he was involved in, so how could the other party know?
Despite his deep skepticism, he had already made up his mind:
He was determined to go, no matter what happened, to see for himself. Firstly, to put his mind at ease, and secondly, because he was genuinely curious about what the old man's "secret" was.
Time passed slowly in this peaceful waiting.
The sun and moon took turns once more, and the crimson light once again enveloped the earth.
The city of Nurs was unusually lively tonight, especially in front of a mansion in the city center, which was brightly lit and saw a steady stream of people coming to offer their gifts.
Ron sat in the carriage, looking out the window at the scenery, feeling completely at peace.
It seems that no matter what the scene is like, it cannot stir up the slightest ripple in his heart.
The carriage stopped in an open space. As soon as he stepped off, he heard a hearty laugh: "Hahaha, look who's here!"
The guests at the door all turned to look in his direction upon hearing the sound.
Their eyes revealed a variety of expressions, including surprise, doubt, and curiosity.
Ron didn't care what these people thought of him. He directly performed a standard aristocratic bow to the person who had just spoken, and then smiled:
"Mr. Lyon, you don't need to tease me like that, do you?"
"Oh, Mr. Ron, how could I possibly joke with you? You're a very busy man."
"Hahaha."
Upon hearing this, everyone, whether they knew each other or not, showed kind smiles. As for how much of it was true and how much was false, that's a matter of opinion.
Ron just smiled slightly and didn't say anything.
"Haha, alright, please come in, Mr. Ron. We've been waiting for you for a long time."
Nodding, and following the other party's guidance, I arrived at the banquet hall of the Rang family.
As soon as he entered, he saw the protagonist of the night, Lillian.
"Ron, it's been a long time."
The girl's beautiful face appeared even more radiant with the help of makeup, and her voice remained as gentle as ever.
"We met just last week, Miss Lillian." Ron greeted her politely, his tone still unhurried.
"Hehe, just kidding."
The other person smiled, but there was something indescribable about the meaning behind that smile.
He pretended not to see it and chatted casually with the other person.
Just then, a tall figure walked over, followed by a deep but somewhat familiar voice: "Lillian, who are you chatting with?"
As soon as the other party approached, Ron immediately recognized him. Wasn't this the city defense commander, Kadir, whom he had met half a year ago?
Judging from this, it seems that he is Lillian's husband.
No wonder the names on the invitations seemed familiar.
As soon as the other person approached, they clearly recognized him, and a smile immediately appeared on their face: "Mr. Ron, what are you doing here? And what's going on here?"
"Mr. Kadir, it's been a long time."
As soon as he finished speaking, he felt something was off, as if he had heard it somewhere before.
Turning to look at Lillian, whose face was slightly red, he immediately realized that he felt a little guilty about his current state.
"Miss Lillian and I are friends, so of course I had to come and join in the fun at her wedding."
He shook his head, banishing these strange thoughts from his mind, and then spoke to the seemingly simple-minded young man in front of him.
"I see, Lillian, why didn't you tell me sooner?"
"I didn't even know you two knew each other."
The girl next to him, who had been blushing and silent the whole time, smiled and said something to her husband, while glancing at Ron at the same time.
"Haha, that's true. Let's go, let's not stand here talking, let's find a place to have a proper chat."
And so, the three of them walked toward the corner, chatting and laughing.
But a pair of cloudy eyes kept scrutinizing Ron, and a satisfied smile appeared on his wrinkled face.
