Chapter 157 A "Special Reward" from the Mentor
Our Vice Dean is leisurely reclining in a deck chair, the cup of tea in his hand seemingly inexhaustible. No matter how much he drinks, the greenish liquid remains exactly as it was.
If Ron hadn't watched his prospective tutor swallow the tea with his own eyes, he might have actually thought the old man was having a childlike moment.
Like a child, he drank the water into his mouth and then spat it back into the cup.
Unfortunately, the boy had already left the room and couldn't see what was happening inside.
The old man heard the charming voice and glanced sideways at the black cat lying on the ground, even though from any angle it looked like just a cat.
But the cat's streamlined body, the secretive yet sensual aura it exuded, and its mature yet alluring voice made it impossible to treat it as an ordinary cat.
"Won't that kid get ruined by this little thing? Should we wait for those two girls to grow up a bit more? At least they definitely won't ruin Ron's kid..."
As Latour looked at the burning cat in front of him, he began to doubt whether his previous idea was feasible.
If I weren't a third-ring archmage who had lived long enough, I might have actually fallen for this wild rose covered in thorns, just like those young people. Even knowing that she was covered in barbs, such a captivating little enchantress was worth the risk of bleeding.
If I were to actually let my good disciple play games with this woman in front of me...
The old man really didn't know who was venting their anger for whom in the end.
This moment made even the notoriously womanizing third-ring archmage, Latour, feel troubled. He thought, "Why don't you let that kid Ron give it a try? Maybe he'll actually give it a shot."
It's not uncommon for old women to exploit their young apprentices in this academy.
He had finally found a student who was pleasing to the eye, suited his taste, and could serve as a good experimental tool. If he were to make a mistake in this area, he would be utterly humiliated.
But if he didn't let that kid try, and instead let him harm Salin, as well as Felix's disciple and granddaughter, the old man felt a little reluctant.
The two girls are still young, and it's unreasonable for me, a prospective student, to go and harm them. If those two little ones come knocking on my door demanding an explanation, how will I, a third-ring archmage, the vice-dean of the Red Moon Tower, and the great Crimson Wizard, ever face anyone in Valantia again?
"Latour, my lord, what do you think I should do now?"
Just as the old man was still weighing the pros and cons of his two thoughts, that familiar voice, tinged with a slight tremor, entered his ears once again.
The old man glanced impatiently at the black cat lying on the ground, inwardly blaming the other for not being able to read the room.
The moon goddess Seridwin was startled by the gaze of the great man before her. Thinking she had done something wrong, she quickly suppressed her little thoughts and became obedient and respectful, no longer daring to be flirtatious.
Seeing the black cat had become docile, Latour nodded in satisfaction, then took a sip of his tea, having already made his decision:
"Anyway, with this old man here, that kid definitely won't be played to death. Since that's the case, we might as well let him have some fun with this stupid cat, and that will also repay the favor caused by that treasure."
Upon realizing this, the old man immediately felt much lighter.
I couldn't help but start rocking the chair I was sitting in, and the tea in my hand seemed to smell even more fragrant.
Just as he was feeling pleased with his intelligence, a soft scent entered his nostrils, reminding him of the beautiful girls he had met in his youth.
What a wonderful and memorable past that was!
Back then, everyone's faces were so youthful and vibrant, full of life. Everything was so beautiful. The academy wasn't like it is now, with everyone acting like lunatics. At least back then, everyone still had a normal person's way of thinking.
The old man opened his eyes and looked at Seridwin, who had already transformed back into his original form.
Those cloudy eyes narrowed slightly, and she asked in a chilling tone, "Lady Moon, do you know what you're doing? I remember before you came to this world, I had my men instruct you never to try to offend the majesty of a great being. Did those men fail to do their job properly?"
It's not that the old man doesn't like others getting close to him.
However, the person in front of him was dressed in a way that made him feel uneasy. In addition, thinking about what would happen between his disciple and this guy, the old man, who was already somewhat conservative, became even more piercing in his eyes.
The woman in front of him was wearing a thin black gauze dress that was almost transparent, revealing everything underneath. The mysterious figure that was originally covered by the black evening gown at the chest was now faintly visible under the dress.
The black gauze covering the woman's eyes, in particular, added to the ominous atmosphere.
Seemingly noticing the unfriendly look in the old man's eyes, Seridwin immediately dismissed his earlier assumptions about the other man's words.
To avoid making a bad impression on the other person, she quickly changed out of the clothes and put back on the tight-fitting black dress she had worn before.
He then moved away from the old man in front of him, stood a short distance away, and bowed slightly in greeting.
"I apologize, Lord Latour. I misunderstood you. Please forgive my rudeness just now."
The old man's gaze was fixed on the woman before him, his eyes flashing with a cold light, like a ferocious tiger ready to devour its prey. His tone was chilling as he spoke:
"I don't want this to happen again, Ms. Seridwin. Please be mindful of your position. This is the Tower of the Red Moon. There are things you can do and things you can't, especially for an old man like me. Do you understand?"
The warning in that tone made Seridwin, who stood respectfully before her, tremble slightly. Then, the woman replied in a slightly trembling voice:
"I understand, Your Excellency Latour."
"Good, you can go now. I need your help with something in a few days, and I hope you won't misunderstand me then."
The old man's cloudy eyes stared silently at the woman in front of him, his tone carrying a hint of inexplicable meaning.
But this Lady Moon clearly had no interest in exploring the deeper meaning behind it; all she wanted to do was get as far away from this man as possible.
After bowing deeply once more, the woman followed the direction in which Ron had disappeared and left the room.
