Chapter 72 The Sacred Site Where the "Harvest Day" is Held

The long dragon of tens of thousands of goblins works day and night, only taking a short rest after nightfall.

Roan and Celia have also figured out the rules of the goblin group in the past few days.

They always stayed at the very back of the group, keeping up with the journey during the day and finding secluded spots to undo their transformations and rest at night.

When the team crossed the last mountain range, the sight before them startled Roan.

Below is an extremely open valley, in the center of which stands a huge stone platform, three or four meters high, with rough totem stone pillars on top.

Countless goblins had already set up camp around the high platform, with campfires burning in the distance.

There are clear boundaries between the tribes, and they maintain a distance from each other, so there are no conflicts.

Within sight, at least ten sizable goblin tribes have already arrived here.

Countless spoils of war were piled up in front of each tribe's camp.

Armor, treasure, and even human skulls—these all became their means of showing off.

"Master, this seems to be the sacred place for the harvest day."

"I saw two tribes that were even more outrageous than the merged Carlisle."

Celia's thoughts echoed in Roan's mind.

Unable to speak, Luo An could only nod in response, carrying the wine barrel as he followed the group into the valley.

Their tribe was stationed on an open area on the east side of the valley floor.

The tribesmen began to settle down, building temporary thatched huts and placing the spoils they had carried along the way in front of the camp.

Carlisle rode his giant boar, pacing back and forth in front of the pile of spoils, looking at the ever-growing "victories" and listening to the flattery of his tribesmen, his face full of pride.

The female chieftain beside him kept a cold expression, her eyes sweeping over the camps of other tribes around them, seemingly assessing the strength of those tribal chiefs.

Just as Roan's tribe finished setting up camp, goblin teams continued to enter the valley in large numbers along the mountain path. The arrival of each team made the atmosphere in the valley even more intense.

The sky gradually darkened.

Hundreds of thousands of goblins gathered together, and the once empty valley floor was completely filled with more than sixty goblin tribes of varying sizes.

Luo An also gained a general understanding of the situation of each goblin tribe.

The largest tribe had tens of thousands of people, and the patrolling goblins were burly and swaggering; while the smallest tribe had only about a thousand people, and their camp was set up on the edge of the valley, not daring to have any conflict with the larger tribes.

"Waaaaah~"

A muffled horn sound suddenly rang out from the high platform in the center of the valley.

The previously noisy goblins quieted down and turned their gaze to the giant stone platform.

A tall goblin ascended the platform.

He had a handsome face, wore a dark red priest's robe, and held a staff inlaid with blood-red gemstones in his hand. He exuded an innate nobility in every gesture.

Flames burned on the altar, and the priest stood in the center of the high platform, his gaze sweeping over the goblins below.

Seeing that he seemed about to speak, Luo An was already prepared to listen to Celia's translation.

But the next second, Luo An was stunned.

The priest raised his staff and slowly floated into the air, speaking not in goblin language, but in human language.

"By order of our King, the ceremony for the election of the Great Chieftain shall now commence."

The sound spread through the magic of the staff, clearly resounding throughout the entire valley.

Most of the goblins in the valley couldn't understand it, but they bowed down and knelt down like the chieftains, maintaining a devout awe of the priest.

Roan couldn't understand how this priest could speak in human language on the goblin tribe's "harvest day."

He subconsciously looked at Celia beside him and found that she also looked surprised.

Before Luo An could ponder the reason, the priest on the platform spoke again, still in fluent human language.

"According to the tribe's rules, all the goblin chiefs present are qualified to challenge for the position of Great Chief."

"The two challengers fight on a high platform until one of them concedes defeat."

"The victor gains everything from the loser's tribe, and the loser loses everything."

"The last person remaining on the high platform will be chosen as the Goblin Chieftain, who will lead all the tribes of the southern forest and act on the orders of our King."

After he finished speaking, the entire valley fell silent for a moment, then erupted in a frenzied roar.

Luo An frowned.

This winner-takes-all rule means a huge sacrifice for the chief.

If the challenge fails, what is lost is not only power, but the entire tribe!

There can only be one winner.

This isn't an election; it's a high-stakes gamble.

He looked up at the high platform and saw the priest retract his staff.

"Now, the tribal chiefs who are willing to participate in the struggle for the position of Great Chieftain ascend the high platform."

The noisy valley fell silent once more.

Eyes darted back and forth between the various tribal camps.

A moment later, the first figure moved.

Carlisle flipped off the giant boar, gripped the bone sword, and walked toward the platform.

As he passed by other tribal camps, he even let out provocative roars at the chiefs.

Immediately afterwards, more figures emerged, almost all of them chiefs of large tribes, each with a burly build and a fierce aura, holding various weapons in their hands.

Every chief who ascends the high platform is greeted with a thunderous roar of cheers from his tribesmen.

Ultimately, out of nearly seventy tribal chiefs, only sixteen stood on the high platform.

Apart from two chiefs from small tribes and three chiefs from medium-sized tribes, all the other chiefs came from large tribes with tens of thousands of members.

Just watching from a distance, Roan sensed that several chieftains possessed an aura even stronger than Carlisle's.

"Sixteen challengers, divided into eight groups, will compete in one round of battle each day until a final winner is determined!"

The blood-red gem on the priest's staff lit up with a red light, and sixteen beams of light instantly landed in front of the sixteen chieftains, displaying their group assignments and battle order.

Carlisle glanced down at the light and shadow before him, then suddenly burst into arrogant laughter before turning to look at his opponent.

"The first battle: The Carlisle tribe versus the Elsa tribe!"

As the goblin priest finished speaking, only two figures remained on the platform.

Luo An gazed at the high platform.

Carlisle's opponent was a slender female goblin chieftain who wielded two short blades and whose eyes were filled with fighting spirit.

Roan remembered that the tribe was very small, with only about two thousand goblins.

It can only be said that this small tribe dared to challenge the position of the chieftain; their courage is commendable.

"start!"

The priest finished speaking, but no battle broke out on the high platform immediately.

Carlisle gripped the bone knife, pointed it at the female chieftain, and mocked her in human language.

"Little girl, kneel down and surrender now, offer your tribe to me, and I may mercifully make you my concubine."

The arrogant voice rang out, and a burst of laughter immediately followed.

All the chiefs could see that this was a battle where the odds were heavily against each other.

On one side was a tribe of tens of thousands of goblins, and on the other side was a tribe of less than two thousand goblins. The outcome was a foregone conclusion.

Elsa listened to the mockery, her expression resolute, and she assumed a fighting stance, gripping her short blade.

She looked at Carlisle and replied, "The battle hasn't even begun; the outcome is still uncertain!"

"Try taking my tribe if you want!"

She moved swiftly, her short blade slicing through the air, appearing before Carlisle with incredible speed.
