Chapter 34 Arrived One Step Too Late

When Roan arrived, Martha's farm was in complete disarray.

The only slave left on the farm had been eaten alive and was a gruesome sight.

"We arrived too late."

Luo An sighed.

He made the bull run at full speed, but the journey was too far, and it was impossible to arrive in an instant.

First, monsters attacked Canon's farm, then monsters attacked Martha's farm.

The two attacks came one after the other, with a very short interval, and it's obvious that Brian did it on purpose.

As the lord, he must have known about my support for Grant some time ago.

Brian's actions were clearly a signal to Roan.

"No matter how capable you are, you can't protect everyone."

Luo An was very disappointed.

If Brian adopts this approach later, there is indeed no other way.

Human energy is limited.

He frowned as he looked at the several gray wolves lying in the field.

That skinny slave couldn't possibly handle the wolves; someone must have been at the farm.

"Who is the one?"

Just then, the sound of a carriage speeding away came from behind.

"No...no...it's all over..."

Martha stared at the ruined farm, feeling as if all her strength had been drained away, and collapsed in the car.

The baby in her arms started crying loudly.

But Masha was no longer in the mood to pay attention to her son's crying.

All she had to rely on was this farm.

The farm was destroyed, and rebuilding it would cost money.

But the deceased man left behind very little of his inheritance.

"When I arrived, it was already like this."

Luo An offered words of comfort, "Fortunately, someone arrived in time and killed those gray wolves, so your farm wasn't damaged too badly."

You could say you were lucky.

If Martha hadn't led her son and slaves to their aid, they would likely have perished in the wolf attack.

"Aunt Martha, it's good that she's still alive."

Martha's eyes were vacant as she held the child tightly in her arms.

Luo An was too lazy to say anything more. Life had to go on, and she would have to face it after the sadness.

He mounted the bull and headed back to his farm.

......

It was already midnight when we got back to the farm.

The lights were on inside, and Celia was standing guard at the door.

"Master, you're back."

The elven girl's dress was stained with mud and blood, and her blue eyes held a hint of regret.

Luo An understood in an instant.

"You went to Martha's farm?"

Celia nodded, clutching her sleeve with her small hands. "I was cooking when I saw the smoke rising, so I rushed over immediately."

"But when I arrived at the farm, the slave was already dead. I only managed to kill the gray wolves that were still destroying the farm; I couldn't save him."

Luo An patted her shoulder gently, "Thank you for your hard work."

"It's not hard work. Since Master is putting in so much effort, I should help share the burden."

Celia asked, "Master, was everything alright over there?"

"Not good, when I arrived at the farm..."

Luo An shook his head and explained what had happened and his plan to form a patrol team.

Celia nodded from time to time.

The farmer named Canon survived entirely thanks to his master.

The owner formed a patrol team to better help other farms avoid attacks by monsters.

The master remained as kind as ever.

But Brian is such a scoundrel.

"Master, you've worked so hard, please go inside and rest."

Celia walked toward the kitchen.

"I've left dinner in the pot, it must be cold now, I'll reheat it."

......

Early the next morning.

After finishing breakfast, Luo An bid farewell to Celia and set off on his bull.

After passing several empty farms, we arrived at Grant Farm, but there was no sign of Grant.

A slave who had been saved by Roan's treatment told him that Grant had gone to the main city to buy slaves the day before yesterday and had not yet returned.

Luo An visited the remaining seven farms one by one.

Five of them panicked upon hearing the news of the heavy losses suffered by Canon and Masa, and had to take the matter seriously.

After careful consideration, for the sake of farm safety, they agreed and were willing to provide some manpower to form a patrol team.

Luo An understood that the main problem was his statement that "if you don't join, we won't care if monsters attack."

All five farmers also expressed their willingness to order milk from Luo An.

Three farms with a large number of children paid Luo An in advance to deliver 3 liters of milk daily.

Luo An smiled and agreed.

The other two farms were much larger, with high walls and many slaves.

The farmer believed he could handle it and only vaguely said, "I'll think about it and give Luo An a specific answer in a few days."

Luo An knew that "thinking about it" was, in essence, a rejection.

He didn't bother with any more words and directly stated, "If you're going to come, come to Canon's farm tomorrow."

After saying that, he turned and left.

Whether these people come or not is none of Luo An's business.

If you wait until something really bad happens to ask for help, it will be too late.

Luo Anke remembered that the Goblin Chieftain would be elected soon.

If an attack were to be launched on the border of the Empire, even if the affected area were only affected by the aftershocks, it would be impossible for an ordinary farmer to withstand it.

If Luo An were to unfortunately encounter such a situation, he might have to make other plans.

"Luo An, it's been a long time."

As Luo An was walking back, he heard a familiar voice.

Not far away, Grant was riding his horse, waving at him.

"Uncle Grant, you're back?"

Luo An also greeted him.

"Yes, I went all out this time in the main city, picking out twenty strong and capable slaves and buying new weapons."

"Now, we shouldn't have to be afraid of those damned monsters anymore."

Grant glanced back at the two carriages following behind him, a smile on his face.

The carriage was filled with burly men, and each slave was worth as much as 3 gold coins.

"Uncle Grant, last night..."

Roan wasn't trying to discourage him; he simply told Grant what had happened the night before and invited him to join the patrol team.

"Damn it! These monsters just won't stop!"

Grant's smug smile vanished instantly, and his expression turned grim.

He then realized that if a larger-scale monster attack were to occur, the slaves he had bought would be completely inadequate to cope.

"Your idea for a patrol team is quite good."

Grant hardened his heart and opened his palm to Roan, "I'm willing to provide five slaves, who are absolutely capable fighters, and I will also instruct them in some combat techniques."

"It's good that Uncle Grant is willing to participate."

Seeing his enthusiasm, Luo An reminded him, "I've already spoken with several other farmers. Tomorrow morning, we'll discuss the specifics at Uncle Canon's farm."

"No problem, I'll be there on time tomorrow!"

Grant readily agreed.

Before leaving, he remembered something else. "Luo An, the milk that Thomasa sent you before was delicious. I'll ask you to send some every day from now on."

"it is good."

When it comes to buying milk, Luo An accepts all orders; the more people who order, the better.

The green-haired bull produces a huge amount of milk per day, and the combined order from several farmers was only 20 liters, which was more than enough to meet their needs.

If you collect 20 silver coins a day, you'll have 600 silver coins a month.

This was a considerable sum of money for Luo An.

"Uncle Grant, take care."

Luo An waved goodbye to him and headed towards his farm.

Before tomorrow's discussions begin, he still needs to think about how to best organize the patrol team.
