Chapter 44: Throwing a punch at a teammate
The late-night snack with the Stallone sisters actually only lasted half an hour.
To be honest, there's a significant age gap between Lin Bei and the three sisters, creating a generation gap.
He and Sophia are not much different in age. In Lee Priest's words, if Lin Bei and Sophia were to date, it wouldn't violate any American laws.
Sophia remained quiet throughout, and Sistine, who was shy by nature, hardly uttered a word.
Little Scarlett, on the other hand, kept chattering away, sticking to Lin Bei and asking him all sorts of questions.
"Brother Best, how did you manage to reach that basketball hoop?"
"Brother Best, are you incredibly strong? Could you lift Scarlett up?"
As she spoke, she moved closer to Lin Bei, tilted her little face up, and looked at him expectantly, wanting him to pick her up.
Sophia frowned and glared fiercely at Scarlett: "Scarlett, stop fooling around! Brother Best just finished a match and he's very tired!"
Lin Bei waved his hand and said with a smile, "It's okay, Scarlett doesn't look that heavy, lifting her is nothing."
He then bent down, picked up little Scarlett, and lifted her high, instantly filling the restaurant with a burst of silvery laughter.
Lee Priest genuinely wanted to matchmake Lin Bei and Sophia. He deliberately asked Lin Bei casually in front of Sophia, "Best, how old are you this year?"
"October 1992, so I'd say I was 19?"
Do you have a girlfriend?
Lee Priest pressed on, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Lin Bei shook his head: "No."
Then Lee Priest chuckled slyly, clearly implying something.
Sophia stared at Lin Bei openly, and Lin Bei felt that there seemed to be a hint of expectation in her gaze.
He wasn't sure, so he raised his hand to check the time.
It was already quite late after the match, and after eating for half an hour, it was almost midnight. So Lin Bei urged Lee Priest to take the three little girls home.
Lee Priest lived in the same apartment complex as Lin Bei, so Lin Bei got into Lee Priest's car as well.
First, they took the three Stallone sisters home, and then Lee Priest took Lin Bei back to their apartment building.
On their walk alone, Lee Priest advised Lin Bei, "Really, I think Sophia is quite nice. Although she's only 16, she acts like a little adult, and she's very pretty..."
Lin Bei thought for a moment and asked directly, "Are you trying so hard to bring Sophia and me together? Do you have some ulterior motive?"
Lee Priest paused for a moment; he really didn't have any ulterior motives, he simply had a "matchmaking addiction."
It's the same principle as how relatives in China always arrange blind dates for their single younger relatives.
But if we have to say he had some ulterior motive...
"If you become Sylvester Stallone's son-in-law, you'll take another step closer to the bodybuilding world."
This time it was Lin Bei's turn to be stunned: "What kind of logic is this? Sylvester Stallone isn't even in the bodybuilding world!"
Lee Priest smiled. "You'll understand my logic when you fully understand Sylvester."
……
The day after playing the Jazz, the Warriors had a half-day off and only resumed training in the afternoon.
Following these two consecutive home games, the schedule is set for another three-game away stretch.
The Warriors will face the Suns, Spurs, and Lakers on the road, and the game between the Spurs and the Lakers will be a back-to-back.
This three-game away trip is only one day apart from the previous two home games.
All I can say is that this is a shortened season; the schedule is too tight and too abnormal.
With time running out and the task heavy, Mark Jackson had to make the most of his time, scheduling a half-day training session the afternoon after the game to make some adjustments and optimizations to the team's tactical system.
After finishing lunch, Lin Bei jogged all the way to the training hall.
His teammates hadn't arrived yet, so he started practicing free throws as usual.
In fact, Lin Bei has started making free throws in the two games since his comeback.
He made 2 of 4 free throws against the Heat and 2 of 3 free throws against the Jazz.
His current overall free throw percentage is 58.4%, which is a bit low.
"I'm really afraid of getting hacked, so I'd better warm up these free throw hands a bit more."
Lin Bei muttered to himself as he continued to raise his hand to shoot free throws, his fingertips skillfully controlling the force and angle.
About half an hour later, the teammates arrived one after another.
Lin Bei was quite enthusiastic. He not only greeted Curry and Little Potato, whom he knew well, but also Dorell Wright and Brandon Rush, whom he didn't know very well.
There is only one exception: Bodog.
Lin Bei didn't consider Bodog a teammate. This guy was not only his rival, but also had a dark past in Bodog's previous life:
The incident that has already occurred is the "ejection of Yao Ming during a pre-Olympic warm-up game followed by a nonchalant claim that he was demonstrating the intensity of Australian basketball."
There are still things that haven't happened yet—
After losing to Spain in the Men's Basketball World Cup, he yelled "FxxkChina" in the player tunnel; he continuously slandered China during the Men's Basketball World Cup; and he engaged in a verbal battle with Chinese netizens during the Sun Yang-Horton incident...
Because of these incidents, Lin Bei simply couldn't treat Bogote as a human being.
Lin Bei didn't intend to pay any attention to Bodog; he would ignore the guy for now and then figure out a way to get rid of him completely.
This was Lin Bei's plan, but plans can't keep up with changes.
Lin Bei didn't want to manage his finances, but he insisted on getting involved.
As soon as he arrived at the training hall, he yelled at Lin Bei, "That rookie!"
Lin Bei didn't react at first, until Bodog charged all the way up to him, then Lin Bei pointed at himself and said, "Are you calling me?"
Bodog raised the corners of his mouth, revealing a contemptuous and mocking smile: "Besides you, who else is a newbie?"
In the corner, Clay silently raised his hand; he was a rookie too.
But that doesn't matter; Bodog is here specifically for Lin Bei.
Lin Bei leisurely took another free throw before glancing sideways and saying, "Get to the point."
Bogut was enraged by Lin Bei's nonchalant attitude, and a surge of anger instantly rose within him. He asked Lin Bei fiercely, "You know about the unspoken rules in the NBA regarding rookies, right?"
Upon hearing this, Lin Bei immediately understood what this guy was up to; he simply wanted to use "unspoken rules" to make things difficult for him.
He couldn't be bothered to waste any more words with Bogut, so he turned around and continued practicing his free throws, completely ignoring Bogut.
But Bogut wouldn't let it go, continuing on his own, "I didn't eat lunch, and I'm starving. Go to San Francisco for me; I want to eat Mexican tacos there. Hurry back!"
Lin Bei swished and made his last free throw.
Then, glancing sideways at Bodog again, his tone laced with sarcasm, he said, "Don't you have legs of your own?"
Bodog took a step forward, his eyes growing increasingly fierce, and his tone becoming more forceful: "Let me remind you, this is an unspoken rule in the NBA, something a rookie like you has to do."
He felt he had Lin Bei under control, since most newcomers in the team would obediently follow the so-called "unspoken rules" and dare not defy the veteran players.
But to his surprise, Lin Bei merely glanced at him coldly and uttered a single word: "Get lost!"
Bogut, already burning with rage, was completely ignited by that single word "get out," and his emotions instantly spiraled out of control.
He suddenly rushed towards Lin Bei, and just as he was about to crash into Lin Bei, Lin Bei immediately raised his hand and pushed him away.
"I fucking said, get the hell out!"
The teammates reacted quickly. Little Potato rushed over and stood in front of Lin Bei and Bodog, then faced Bodog.
But Bogut persisted, struggling to get closer and angrily questioning Lin Bei:
"Do you even know what you're doing? You're breaking NBA rules! You're just a rookie, how dare you talk to me like that?"
He pressed closer and closer, his wide eyes filled with malice, and he raised both hands as if to shove Lin Bei.
At this point, Lin Bei could no longer hold back.
He clenched his enormous fist and threw a punch at Bogut's face, roaring, "Fuck your rules!"
