Why is his holy light red?
Chapter 93: Time to Go All Out!
Chapter 93: Time to Go All Out!
Upon hearing Amon admit that he could restore erased memories, Mercury knew he had caught a big fish.
The evidence from all aspects of Yong Sheng Technology has been completely destroyed, and the interrogation has been ineffective because most people's key memories have been erased.
With Amon's explanation, Mercury finally understood the current situation of the Immortal Technology.
As it turned out, the name "Angel of Light" was far more terrifying than Mercury had anticipated. The mere presence of that earthly god at the group's headquarters was enough to send half of Eternal Life Technology's shareholders trembling with fear.
The entire conglomerate is in turmoil, with several powerful factions secretly conspiring to oust the current CEO.
Lucas was directly scapegoated.
Although Lucas still holds most of the power, this once meticulously functioning capital machine has actually become a leaky, dilapidated building that could collapse at any moment.
This is why Amon left headquarters and went to the Roots District in person.
They claimed it was to avoid the scrutiny of the Holy Light Angels and keep an eye on those unruly elements, but in reality, they wanted to escape the chaotic vortex within the Immortal Technology.
Hearing what Amon said, Mercury also recalled what Chairman Richard had said.
The Hero Association of Aruja City decided to stand by and wait, believing that the investigation would eventually yield results. Richard saw no need to confront Immortal Technology head-on and risk cutting off the association's logistical support.
No matter how shrewd Eamon's risk-avoidance plan was, he ultimately didn't anticipate that Leo would regain his memory because of a news report, nor did he foresee that the Church of Divine Grace was so close to Emily's house, less than three kilometers away as the crow flies.
Mercury had just sprinted through several blocks at full speed, the chain-reaction collisions and deafening car horns on the main road caused by Leo running a red light pointing him in the right direction.
Mercury found Leo, who had been dragged into the alley, with little effort, and then Amon was in deep trouble.
Mercury then inquired about the secret laboratory of the immortality technology.
"I really don't know!" Amon convulsed in pain, stammering in protest. "That's not at my level of authority! The division of labor within Immortal Technology is very strict. I was only responsible for the external cleanup work; I had no knowledge of any other secrets!"
Mercury sighed; the value of this piece of trash had come to an end.
"I've told you everything you want to know—" Amon stared at Mercury, his face deathly pale, as if grasping at a last straw. "Can you let me go?"
"Let you go back to die?" Mercury sneered. "Going back with two shattered arms, do you think the people at Immortal Technology wouldn't know what happened?"
"I can survive! I have my own way!" Amon gasped for breath, a glint of madness in his eyes. "My power can erase the memories of my pursuers! If you let me go now, I can interfere with the senses of those scavengers, at least buying them some time! As long as I survive the Holy Angels' interrogation period, once everything settles down, my whole family will still have a chance to live!"
That's a clever plan. Unfortunately, in reality, there's no such cheap deal.
"Stop your daydreaming." Mercury interrupted him expressionlessly, his tone cold and ruthless. "Your only value is to expose the immortality technology. Otherwise, you have no reason to live."
These words instantly broke Eamon.
"Then my whole family will be torn to pieces by the conglomerate!" he roared like a wild beast cornered in a dead end, his broken arms twitching desperately in the mud. "I will never be some damn witness! Just kill me now!"
He was going to die either way, but if he died at Mercury's hands, the Immortal Life Technologies might even treat it as a "death in the line of duty," giving his wife and children a glimmer of hope.
"Don't yell at me." Mercury looked at his pathetic, reckless state and casually moved his foot away. "There are professionals to handle you."
To the astonishment of Emmon and Leo, Mercury suddenly did something extremely illogical.
He turned around, tilted his head back, and looked up at the narrow strip of sky that was squeezed into a line. Then, he took a deep breath.
The red holy light deeply integrated with every cell in his body, enabling his physical functions to surpass those of ordinary people in every aspect, including his lung capacity and voice.
The next second, an extremely violent roar exploded from his throat, soaring into the sky: "Holy Angel of Light—! Help—!!"
This doesn't sound like something a human could make.
The violent sound waves were like a high-pressure gas cylinder exploding directly in a deep alley, causing the plaster on the walls on both sides to crumble. Even though Mercury was deliberately shouting at the atmosphere directly above, Amon and Leo on the ground were still wracked with pain from the sound waves, their eardrums filled with a sharp buzzing sound.
There is an urban legend that has been passed down in the world: when you need help, you can try shouting the name of the angel of light towards the sky. As long as you are sincere enough, that god on earth will descend.
But most people understand that this is nothing more than propaganda fabricated by fanatical religious groups to win over believers and forcibly clothe the angels of light in divine robes.
Children might treat it as a bedtime story, but in the adult world, who would entrust their life to a ridiculous slogan?
However, just as the deafening echo was still reverberating through the alleyways and the buzzing in our ears had not yet completely dissipated, a dazzling golden holy light burst forth in the narrow sky.
An inexplicable pressure descended from the sky, making those on the ground wish they could prostrate themselves on the ground.
The two stared intently at the sacred and majestic figure, their minds filled with only one thought—could they really summon the angel of holy light?
So, the urban legend that's been circulating for ten years isn't entirely unfounded. Is it simply because others can't summon the Holy Light Angel that they don't have a loud enough voice?
Before the two could piece their shattered worldviews back together, the blinding golden light crashed into the dark alleyway filled with sewage and garbage.
The golden light suddenly receded, and the imposing figure of the Holy Light Angel appeared amidst the flying cement dust.
His gaze swept quickly across the cracked pavement and the two gruesome corpses, then instantly locked onto the boy in front of him, his tone seemingly urgent: "Mercury, are you alright?"
"Very well." Mercury pointed to the pistols and spent cartridges. "I just happened to stumble upon the people from Immortal Technology killing someone here to cover their tracks, so I rescued them on the side."
Without any unnecessary pleasantries, Mercury revealed the identities of the two men to the Angel of Light. He explained Leo's former public relations executive status, Emmon's ability to erase memories, and the information about the internal strife within the group that he had just managed to extract from them, all in the most concise way possible.
After hearing these words, the Holy Light Angel stared at the boy in front of him, his face showing undisguised surprise.
He didn't even have time to blame Mercury for going too far and killing someone.
Over the past two or three days, he personally led a team to exert pressure and investigate at the headquarters of Yong Sheng Technology, but there has been no progress.
Mercury was frantically searching for that old paranormal case called "The Cannibal Nightmare" one second, and the next second he stumbled upon a corporate assassination attempt and even captured a key witness who could break the deadlock?!
The angel of light looked at Mercury, a strange thought forming in his mind.
Is there some superhuman who can manipulate fate, bestowing all the luck upon Mercury?
Mercury didn't think too much about it and asked, "With this crucial witness, your investigation into Immortal Technology should be able to come to a close, right?"
The angel of holy light nodded slightly.
The significance of Eamon's trump card is self-evident. Just by taking Eamon on a tour of the Immortal Technology Group, one can find the core personnel within the conglomerate who have been forcibly "amnesiac".
Once we recover all these people's memories, we can immediately piece together a seamless chain of evidence.
By then, even if Eternal Life Technology brings in the best legal team in the federal government, it won't be able to turn the tide.
"Stop dreaming! I won't tell you a single word!" Amon, sprawled in the mud, suddenly struggled violently as if in a final burst of energy. He glared at the Holy Angel before him, his bloodshot eyes almost bulging out of their sockets. "Holy Angel, you're a hero, aren't you? A hero should give me a quick death! I'd rather rot in this ditch than let my wife and children die!"
The angel of light gazed at Amon, who was pale and covered in cold sweat in the mud, and sighed with pity.
A pure and warm golden light overflowed from his palm, seeping into Amon's body as if it were alive. Accompanied by a low sound of bones reforming, Amon's two crushed arms healed and repaired at a speed visible to the naked eye, and even the bruises on the pale flesh disappeared completely within seconds.
The angel of holy light bent down, firmly supporting his back with his large hands, and pulled him out of the filthy puddle.
"Family is always the bottom line, I understand your fear." The Holy Angel's voice was calm and deep, without the slightest hint of arrogance. "But you must understand that compromising with conglomerates won't save you. Help me testify against Eternal Life Technology, and I will take responsibility for your family's safety."
Seeing that Amon still refused to believe it, the Archangel of Light smiled and said, "You must have a way to contact your family. Give me the clues, and I'll immediately have the Iron Titans trace their location. Then, I'll personally go and rescue them. At that time, will you help me?"
Amon, who had originally refused to yield even unto death, finally relented after seeing that holy smile.
"If you can rescue my family, I'm willing to do anything for you."
Mercury watched with a strange expression. Sure enough, people can't be compared. The Holy Angel hadn't done anything, just made a casual promise, yet Amon believed it.
Is this the reputation of the Holy Angels?
Now that this matter was resolved, Mercury asked in a low voice, "Didn't my father contact you before, asking you to look up a few coordinates?"
The angel of holy light nodded slightly. A few minutes earlier, when El made an excuse to push open the church door and walk to a deserted corner, he had already completed the transformation.
Using his X-ray vision, he had already quickly scanned all the locations marked on Mercury's list.
The result did indeed reveal the anomaly.
"There are anomalies inside the building with two coordinates," the Holy Angel said in a deep voice. "I can see an underground structure that imprisons many living people. To avoid alerting them, I haven't taken any further action."
As he spoke, the angel of holy light revealed the two extremely well-hidden hiding places.
Mercury quickly updated the coordinates on his phone, glanced at the two remaining glaring red dots on the screen, pressed the lock screen button, and put the phone back in his pocket. "Then I'll leave the mess at Eternal Life Technology to you," he said, raising his eyes. "If you can uncover 'Ogre Nightmare' while exposing Eternal Life Technology's crimes, that would be even better."
"Don't worry." The angel of holy light gazed at the boy before him and made a firm promise, "Your friend is absolutely safe. I guarantee it with my reputation."
The moment the words fell, a dazzling golden light surged forth like a tidal wave, completely engulfing Emmon and Leo.
With a very faint popping sound in the air, the halo suddenly contracted, and the three figures vanished into thin air, leaving only a few bits of trash swirling up in the airflow.
The alleyway fell silent once more.
Mercury stood alone on the cracked asphalt road, his gaze cold. The dozen or so suspected locations had now been narrowed down to two.
The impending, earth-shattering liquidation of the Yong Sheng Technology headquarters will undoubtedly attract everyone's attention.
This means that Mercury can take more drastic actions in the future.
Mercury slowly clenched his right fist.
The red holy light climbed up his forearm inch by inch, enveloping his entire body.
Having been led by the nose for so long, he is now prepared to solve the problem in the most brutal and direct way.
