Why is his holy light red?

Chapter 92 The Memory Eraser
Flying cement dust filled the narrow back alley.
Mercury slowly straightened up from the cracked ground, the fissures spreading outwards like a spiderweb from the deep crater he had created by his fall. It was this extremely destructive shock that had interrupted their attack.
Leo, who had narrowly escaped death, was covered in cold sweat. He could only grit his teeth and pull out the bent needle. Just half a second later, the deadly liquid would have been completely injected into his vein.
He didn't know who the young man in front of him, who was radiating a dark red light, was, but he knew for sure that he was definitely not from Eternal Life Technology.
"Help—please save me!" Leo scrambled through the filthy mud, like a drowning man grabbing onto the last piece of driftwood, and stumbled and crawled toward the dark red figure.
Behind him, the three thugs who had been knocked to the ground quickly regained their balance. Their plan to stage a drug overdose scene had completely failed, and without hesitation, they decisively abandoned their pretense, drawing their pistols almost simultaneously.
Unfortunately, their movements as they drew their guns were far too slow in Mercury's eyes.
The instant the trigger was pulled, Mercury's figure had already left a horizontal afterimage, blocking Leo's path.
"Bang bang bang"
Gunshots rang out at close range in the alley. The brass bullets slammed into the dark red protective aura, as if hitting a layer of alloy armor. The bullets were instantly compressed and deformed, flying out in all directions with blinding sparks, without even shaking the hem of Mercury's clothes.
Mercury had no intention of being polite to this bunch of bastards. He charged straight into the three men's firing formation, braving the gunfire.
With a sudden burst of power from his left arm, he delivered a heavy punch to the assassin's shoulder. A sickeningly crisp "crack" rang out as the man's shoulder blade shattered instantly, sending him flying backward like a broken sack.
Immediately afterwards, Mercury's right leg swept across like a battle axe, accurately kicking the assassin on the right in the stomach. The assassin slammed into the wall with a thud, his body turning into a lump of mud, leaving a radiating bloodstain on the wall.
The last remaining leader didn't even have time to back away before Mercury grabbed his gun-wielding arm.
Mercury's eyes were cold as he casually pressed down along the man's joints with his five fingers.
"Ah—!" Accompanied by the man's pig-like scream, his right arm joints made a popping sound as the pistol fell limply into the sewage.
This was a one-sided, purely violent crushing defeat.
If it weren't for the need to spare their lives, Mercury could have killed all three of them in an instant.
After confirming that the three people on the ground had completely lost their ability to resist, Mercury's gaze remained fixed on the face of the leader.
Without turning his head, he asked Leo, "You're Emily's father? I'm her friend. Are you alright?"
Leo slumped in the muddy, filthy water, his chest heaving like a bellows. He stared at the boy, who emanated a faint, dark red glow, as if he were looking at a monster, his mind still reeling from the fear he had just experienced.
"Living—alive. Thank you—thank you so much—" Leo gasped incoherently. Apart from bruises all over his body from the beating, he was completely unharmed compared to the three professional assassins on the ground with broken bones and shattered tendons.
"That's good."
Mercury responded, then raised his cement-dust-covered leather boots and gently stepped on the leader's only remaining intact arm.
"Who are you?" Mercury looked down at him, his eyes filled with nothing but cold threat. "Did Immortal Technology send you?"
The man gritted his teeth, remaining silent. He recognized Mercury, though he didn't know how he had arrived so quickly, but he could only grit his teeth and endure it.
If he gave in, he would surely die. If he remained defiant, there was still a sliver of a chance to survive. At least the boy in front of him was a registered hero of the association. Even though he had killed two people without hesitation, he had no power to resist now, so he had to be somewhat cautious.
However, he overestimated Mercury's patience, and he was in a rather bad mood today.
"It seems you haven't grasped the situation."
Without a word, Mercury shifted his foot slightly and then slammed his boot down with tremendous force.
"Snap—!"
A chilling sound of bones shattering echoed through the alley. The man's muffled groan instantly turned into a heart-wrenching scream as his other intact arm collapsed at a twisted angle.
"I'm in a hurry." Mercury leaned down slightly, dark red holy light dancing dangerously at his fingertips. "By the way, my power can heal. If you don't want to talk, I'll crush every bone in your body inch by inch, and then use this power to heal them in an abnormal shape. At that point, you'll be stuck crawling on the ground like a maggot for the rest of your life."
Mercury stared into the man's pupils, which were constricted violently by extreme pain and fear, his tone icy cold: "So, skip the tough guy part. Just tell me straight, who you are!"
As Leo watched the bloody interrogation unfold before him, his temples throbbed with pain, and fragments of his missing memories seemed to resurface deep within his mind.
He slapped his forehead hard, his eyes widening instantly, and pointed at the man in the mud, roaring, "I remember now! Eamon! You're Eamon Miller!"
Before he could finish speaking, Leo's voice suddenly rose, filled with extreme terror: "Don't look into his eyes! He can erase people's memories!"
However, Leo's call came too late.
The instant Leo shouted, Amon, enduring the excruciating pain of his shattered arms, abruptly raised his head. His once normal pupils dilated rapidly like turbid whirlpools, firmly drawing Mercury's gaze.
He had been feigning death, waiting for an opening to launch a counterattack, but Leo's sudden accusation forced him to forcefully retaliate.
He can tear apart a person's mental defenses simply by making eye contact.
His current plan is extremely malicious; he wants to extract all of Mercury's memories from the age of six. If he can turn him into a mentally disabled idiot, he can survive.
Mercury did indeed feel as if he had been pricked very lightly by a fine needle in his brain, and his vision was momentarily distorted and doubled.
But it only lasted for that one moment.
A faint red holy light flashed, instantly pulverizing the invading spiritual force.
Compared to the psychological pollution instilled by the Black Moon Circus, this level of cognitive interference is easily resolved by the Red Holy Light automatic defense.
Mercury simply blinked, and his vision cleared again.
"They really won't shed a tear until they see the coffin."
Mercury's boots moved up, landing on Amon's chest, and Amon's ribs began to crack.
"Leo! I fucking saved your life!" Feeling the deadly pressure on his chest, Amon finally broke down completely, roaring at Leo, who was slumped against the wall, "If it weren't for me, you would have been a handful of ashes in the crematorium six months ago!"
Mercury paused slightly in his tracks. Was there more to it? But now that he'd spoken, the rest would be easier.
"Being afraid of death is a good thing." Mercury leaned down, his eyes indifferent. "Just tell me what you want to know, and I might consider sparing your life."
"No—" Amon gritted his teeth, shaking his head with cold sweat dripping down his face. "My wife and children are in the company's hands—if I tell them, they'll all die!"
"It's alright," Mercury said coldly. "Then I'll kill you now and stuff you into the sewers to be a slime. Then I'll spread the word to Immortal Technology that you betrayed us and ran away. I'm sure Immortal Technology will take good care of your family."
Eamon stared at the boy in front of him as if he had seen a ghost, his face full of disbelief and terror.
How did he come up with such a vicious trick?
"You're a hero! How could you do such a thing?!" he roared in despair.
"You're not even human!" Mercury roared furiously. "You watched those beasts conduct human experiments on living children and still calmly clean up their messes. Since you're no longer even human, what right do you have to expect a hero to be merciful to you?"
Completely exhausted of patience, Mercury stopped talking and slowly moved his shoe from Amon's sternum, hovering directly over his face: "Three seconds left. If you don't speak now, I'm not going to waste any more time with you."
Mercury's rough, muddy sole pressed down little by little on Amon's forehead.
"I'll talk! I'll talk!!" Amon's psychological defenses completely collapsed, and he screamed hysterically, "I'm the scavenger who specializes in erasing the memories of those who know the truth! Six months ago, Leo accidentally saw the data report of a few children's experiments. It was a top-secret order from higher-ups that I personally erased his memory!"
"Then why not just kill him?" Mercury frowned. "The dead are always more tight-lipped than the living with amnesia. Your ability is clearly half-baked; what's the point of leaving a ticking time bomb out there that could resurrect at any moment?"
Amon, bewildered by Mercury's murderous intent, explained, sweating profusely, "Leo was of a much higher rank back then!"
He was the head of public relations for the entire group, holding connections with major media outlets! The sudden death of a high-ranking executive like him would absolutely cause a huge uproar; the risks would be completely uncontrollable!
Mercury raised an eyebrow and instantly understood the logic.
The wealthy people living in the Upper East Side can make headlines for three days if they lose a purebred poodle, but dozens of homeless people rotting in the sewers in the Roots area go unnoticed every day.
Killing a mid-level executive of a large conglomerate would certainly attract a lot of attention; but if you manipulate things and get him fired for "mental instability" and end up as a drug addict in the slums, no one will care when he dies.
"So you just ruined me like this—"
Leo stumbled to his feet, leaning against the wall, his eyes bloodshot, his fists clenched tightly. "No wonder I couldn't remember why I was fired from the company! You forcibly altered my brain! For the past six months, I've had splitting headaches like a madman every day. My wife divorced me, taking the children with her. To relieve the pain, I could only keep taking drugs and drinking!"
"But I saved your life!" The excruciating pain from his broken arms made Amon pale, yet he still roared back, panting heavily. "They were planning to execute you in two months, but I delayed until now. I fucking considered you a friend! You ungrateful idiot, you could have lived as long as you stayed in the Roots district and were a drunkard!"
Just as the two were about to put on a melodramatic show in the alleyway filled with sewage, Mercury impatiently kicked Amon's chin, cutting off his nonsense in the most rude way.
"I have no interest in your love-hate relationship," Mercury said coldly, staring at the man at his feet. "Stop talking nonsense. Do you have a way to restore those memories you erased?"
