Chapter 88 Fierce Battle (Fifth update, please subscribe!)

"I'm glad you're alright."

Lorraine crouched down, picked Anya up, and gently placed her against the corner of the wall.

He frowned as he looked at her badly mangled arm, reached out and touched the scratches on her arm, his mind focused on the Whisperer's Ring on his finger.

[Treatment for minor injuries]

[Beginner's Blessing: When you use this ring to cast a spell, there is a 5% chance that the spell's effect will be doubled.]

The ring seemed to be particularly kind to this corner today, with a radiance far more dazzling than usual emanating from his palm and enveloping Anya entirely.

A warm, soft light seeped into the wounds on her arm, and the torn muscles, layer by layer, began to weave and close again in the light, while the shattered bones quickly healed.

.....Thanks."

Anya breathed a sigh of relief, feeling the sharp pain in her arm quickly subsiding.

She braced herself against the wall with her left hand, managing to sit up with difficulty, her gaze fixed on the ghoul struggling to its feet in the distance: "Divine magic can dissolve those crystals, but my holy symbol slipped from my grasp... I'm sorry... please help me..."

Lorraine picked up the shield from the ground and looked around, quickly spotting the triangular shield engraved with the holy emblem.

It landed on the ground not far in front of the ghoul, probably dropped there when Anya was hit by the ghoul.

He had actually just gotten a clue; Eileen's spell had given him inspiration.

Although the crystal has an absurdly restorative property, the ghoul's severed arm is still lying in the mud nearby, indicating that it cannot regenerate severed limbs.

So if we just remove its legs, this thing is practically dead.

No matter how much the crystals try to repair a torso without limbs, it won't make any waves.

As for beheading... Lorraine had considered it.

But the crystal covering the neck was so thick that he doubted that even with the blessing spell, it would be impossible to cut it off in one blow.

If he fails to land a blow, those bone claws will be the next thing to fall on him. He can't gamble everyone's lives on that one strike at this moment.

Dismembering the legs is clearly a safer option; dealing with the head can wait until later.

However, the crystals had already begun to spread to its remaining limbs, and breaking through that hard shell would undoubtedly be another fierce battle.

Fortunately, Anya has woken up. Since divine magic can suppress that power, things will be much easier.

"Just wait!"

Lorraine grabbed the Rusty Throat from the ground and charged toward the ghoul.

The ghoul was still staggering as it got up. Lorraine's [Thunder Wave] had blasted the crystals on its neck open a little more, and the translucent crystals were now growing wildly, covering it even more tightly.

Before it could regain its footing, Lorraine grabbed the triangular shield from the ground and threw it back towards Anya.

The shield traced an arc in the air and landed steadily beside Anya.

She gritted her teeth, picked up the shield, rested her forehead on the holy emblem, and whispered, "May the dawn light your way."

The light of the blessing spell rose again, landing precisely on Lorraine, giving his exhausted body a renewed surge of power.

The ghoul had already stood up, its head tilted as it stared at him. The eerie green light in its eyes revealed no emotion, but the saliva dripping from its mouth proclaimed its hunger to everyone.

It wants to tear everything in front of it to shreds.

It will devour everything in its path!

"Aww!"

'

The ghoul howled and charged at him, swinging its limbs.

Lorraine did not slow down the speed of the buffer spikes. He lowered his center of gravity and the focused state he had once shown when facing the kobolds in the mine returned to him.

Everything around me suddenly became incredibly clear.

He could feel the slight tilt of the stone slabs under his feet, hear the sound of water seeping from the cracks in the bricks above his head, and even distinguish the trajectories of the bloody and rotten smells in the air.

The ghoul's movements began to slow down in his eyes.

Stepping out with the left leg... drool dripping... waving the right paw... losing balance...

All the details seemed to be etched into Lorraine's mind, and he made his choice almost instantly.

The dragon-scale shield tilted to meet the ghoul's bone claw strike, and he used the impact to turn the shield backward at an angle.

The ghoul's claws slid out along the tilted shield, and because it lost its balance from its left arm, it lost control and fell to the right.

Lorraine lowered his knees to steady himself, and the Rusty Throat slashed out diagonally from below, the first strike of the combo slamming into the ghoul's right knee.

The translucent crystals were no match for the platinum-infused blade; the rusty throat easily severed the tendon and became lodged in its joint.

The ghoul let out a sharp screech. Although it felt no pain, it was still enraged by Lorraine's unabashed behavior.

It placed its right leg on the ground, spun around like a compass, and swept its bone claws toward his waist and abdomen with a whooshing sound.

But the second strike in the combo was even faster.

Lorraine used the recoil from the rusty throat striking his joint to flick his wrist, returning the sword to his side. The force traveled from his wrist into his forearm.

He swung his arm, the Blessed Thorn, which he wielded like a platinum screen, and slashed down again along the ghoul's knee.

The bone claw stopped less than two inches from his waist.

The ghoul crashed to the ground, its right calf severed at the knee. The crystals were writhing wildly at the cut, unable to find any limbs to cling to.

Lorraine's plan was indeed effective; once completely severed, it could never be reconnected.

At the same time, three silver-white magic missiles streaked through the darkness, landing precisely on the ghoul's body and blasting it over again.

It twitched twice, its remaining left leg awkwardly kicking on the stone slab, while its right paw gripped the ground tightly, trying to stand up from the ground using only its two limbs.

Perhaps its mind had already been smashed by Anya, and now it is only its instincts that govern it.

Lorraine gave it no time to catch its breath.

He gritted his teeth and endured the tearing pain in his mind, releasing [Lightning Pull] on its left leg once more.

The ghoul was pulled backward by the power of the spell and flew into the air. He seized the opportunity and swung his sword again at the knee of the ghoul's left leg in the instant the lightning exploded!

The rusty throat slashed out horizontally, the blade cutting straight into the gap at the knee, severing its only remaining leg.

The ghoul's body lost its last bit of support and crashed back to the ground like a sack of mud. It flailed its remaining right arm a few times, but could no longer get up.
