Chapter 72 I Can't Help Falling in Love with You
"You still remember that sentence?"
Lorraine twitched the corner of his mouth. How could this girl be so vengeful? He hadn't seen any reaction from her before, and thought she had already forgotten about it.
I never expected that they would remember this until now, and they even took a shower and changed their clothes before they could retaliate with sarcasm.
However... he took a closer look at Eileen.
Eileen usually prefers to wear practical clothes, which is similar to him.
Those robes or simple clothes, laden with large and small bags, were hardly pleasing to the eye; they were simply very practical.
The most casual piece of clothing he had ever seen was actually a morning robe, which he would only wear in the early morning.
It was only after she changed into a dress whose sole purpose was to make her more beautiful that Lorraine realized how incredibly beautiful this girl could be.
That undeniable, aggressive beauty even made his heart beat faster.
He couldn't help but sincerely praise:
"You're so beautiful, I can't help but fall in love with you."
"You...you!"
Eileen's mind went blank. She had rehearsed Lorraine's reaction, but she never expected him to say something like that.
She specially changed into a beautiful dress she had never worn before, put on the earrings her mother had given her, and even put on makeup.
She had thought Lorraine would be stunned and speechless by her beauty, but she never expected...
That shameless scoundrel!
How dare he, how dare he!!!
"Gurgle—"
The short man panicked and clutched his stomach, instantly feeling as if he were being targeted by some terrifying monster. He froze on the spot, pretending to be dead without moving.
Eileen withdrew her murderous gaze from Piper, staring at Lorraine as if she were already dead, and said through gritted teeth:
"You'd better be able to pronounce the Flame Arrow spell correctly word for word tomorrow, otherwise..."
Lorraine was now truly panicked, and the composure she had shown while leisurely observing her vanished instantly.
He quickly took two steps closer to her, bent down to rub his hands, and put on a fawning smile:
"No, no, I know I was wrong. I'll stay up all night to memorize it, and I promise I'll memorize it perfectly tomorrow, okay?"
Startled by Lorraine's sudden rush, Eileen shrank back and grabbed the door frame. She breathed a sigh of relief when she realized he wasn't going to do anything indecent.
She scrutinized him carefully, mimicking Lorraine's expression, and noticed that he was dressed in tattered clothes. She frowned and said:
"Today is Midwinter Festival, and you're wearing this?"
"Uh...is that not allowed?"
Lorraine glanced down at himself. He had just changed into a clean long-sleeved linen shirt, which was perfectly comfortable in the warm tavern.
Eileen tapped his shoulder with a look of exasperation and said, enunciating each word clearly, "Mid-Winter Festival! You must wear your best clothes!"
"Oh? There's such a saying?"
Lorraine scratched his head.
Why does this festival feel so much like the Spring Festival?
But his best clothes... does he really expect him to wear that silver-forged steel breastplate?
That's really inappropriate.
Eileen understood immediately when she saw his expression: this money-grubber had made so much money, yet he couldn't bear to buy a decent piece of clothing.
She shrugged disdainfully and said, "How embarrassing. You're all professionals, can't you dress a little more presentably?"
Lorraine immediately made way for him.
Eileen walked past him, her long skirt brushing against his calves, until she stopped at the edge of the stairs and said:
"After you get the mission reward tomorrow, come with me to buy a nice outfit."
After saying that, she walked straight down the stairs.
The short man watched her disappear down the stairs before taking his hand off her stomach and lowering his voice to say:
"Pip thought he was going to die just now."
"Let's go, let's go downstairs for a drink."
Lorraine patted him on the shoulder and quickly followed Eileen.
The taverns were incredibly lively during Midwinter Festival.
The aroma of fermented ale, the savory smell of grilled meat, the resinous scent of burning pine branches, and the breathing and laughter of hundreds of people mingled together, filling the entire space to the brim.
Eileen stopped in the middle of the stairs. She scanned the lobby, looking for an empty seat.
Her turquoise skirt flowed down the edge of the stairs with her movements, as beautiful as a painting.
A young adventurer was chatting and laughing loudly with his companions by the bar. He had just raised his glass halfway when he caught a glimpse of the stairs out of the corner of his eye, and his hand immediately stopped in mid-air.
"What's wrong, Remy? You're already feeling down after just a little bit? Aren't you going to have some fun at 'Rosemary and Thyme' later? You'll just get drunk and die in Nightingale's belly..."
Remy's companions thought he was just a lightweight drinker and made some lighthearted jokes, but to their surprise, he immediately became furious.
"Shut up...shut up, stop talking!"
He stuffed the roasted meat into his companion's mouth.
Remy, who was furious, was not the only one who discovered Eileen; the guests around the stairs all stopped what they were doing.
Some people put down their wine glasses, some forgot what they were going to say halfway through their sentences, and some almost shoved food into their nostrils.
Soon, only the firewood in the fireplace remained, crackling relentlessly, in the entire tavern lobby.
Eileen accepted their gazes calmly.
These gazes, whether admiring, greedy, or surprised, made no difference to her; she had long been accustomed to them since childhood.
She saw a small empty space in the corner of the bar, so she stepped down the last few steps.
The crowd automatically parted to make way for her.
The young adventurer and his companion by the bar turned their heads in unison with her steps, like two puppets tethered to the same string.
A waiter carrying a tray full of glasses of beer stood close to the wall, the tray held above his head. The foam of beer spilled onto his clothes, but he was completely unaware.
Eileen arrived at the bar as she wished, sat down on the bar stool, and turned around to see Lorraine and Piper still standing where she had just passed.
"What are you standing there for? Come here right now!"
She frowned slightly.
Although the sound wasn't loud, it could still be clearly heard by everyone in the quiet tavern.
Everyone's eyes immediately turned to the staircase.
Lorraine felt goosebumps rise all over her body.
Those curious, scrutinizing, and envious glances, and even a few that carried undisguised jealousy and hatred.
They are all saying the same thing.
Why him?
Lorraine silently glanced down at her linen shirt, its collar loosely washed and the loose threads on the cuffs even sticking out.
"Pip, am I dressed in a way that's embarrassing?"
"Yes."
"Looks like I need to change my clothes."
Lorraine chuckled, no longer caring about what she was wearing, and confidently walked towards the bar, meeting all the gazes.
The crowd parted again in front of them.
He ignored the people staring at him, calmly walked over to Eileen, and sat down on the high stool.
"Sorry to keep you waiting," he said with a smile.
Eileen glanced at him sideways and said calmly:
"You're so slow."
"There are just too many people."
Lorraine remained unfazed.
The little guy had already jumped onto the bar stool and was ordering dinner like he was reciting a menu: "Three Midwinter Night Specials! Piper also wants a roast meat platter, a stew, and three pies!"
He proudly pulled out ten silver coins, placed them on the bar, and said, "The rest are for Lily; Piper doesn't owe her a tip!"
