Hogwarts: A little lion in the skin of the Eagle School
Chapter 14 Levitation Charm and the History of Magic
"Learning the Levitation Charm is divided into two stages. The first stage is simply making an object float."
"The second stage is controlling the floating objects."
"Now we're going to try to make the object float."
"The spell is on the third page. Everyone, repeat after me: Yugadim, Leviosa."
Following Professor Flitwick's lead, everyone began learning the Levitation Charm. For beginners, the spell itself is important, but its pronunciation is even more crucial.
By reciting the correct incantation and making the wand gestures, you can successfully mobilize magic and cast spells.
Therefore, Professor Flitwick kept emphasizing everyone's pronunciation.
The gesture for the wand is to wave it from left to right and then flick it.
It's called a "shake," but it actually just means pointing the tip of the wand at the object being cast the spell and gently tapping it.
There was a feather in front of each person; I don't know where it came from, but it looked quite pretty.
Their current target for the spell is this feather.
Children from pure-blood wizarding families like Ryan's had received similar training before, so they were quite comfortable with the content of this lesson.
The basic levitation spell was completed very quickly.
John practiced the spells and gestures repeatedly as instructed. Once he felt he had mastered them, he aimed at the feather in front of him, waved his wand, and recited the spell.
"Yugadim, Leviosa."
As soon as he uttered the incantation, John felt an energy flowing at the tip of his wand. With his swing, the magic left a trail in the air, drawing out the magic within him and releasing it from the tip of the wand to envelop the feathers before him.
This feeling lasts only a moment and ends very quickly. If you grasp it, then the spell is half successful.
He felt his magic enveloping the feather, as if an invisible hand had grasped it.
As he slowly raised his wand, the feathers in front of John actually began to float up.
John was very excited after successfully casting the spell for the first time.
He was also the only student who succeeded on his first try.
As he swung his wand from side to side, the feathers floating in the air also swayed from side to side, which was a sign that he had reached the second stage.
Only with stable magic output and extremely strong control can one continuously envelop an object and move it according to their gestures.
This is something even pure-blooded wizards like Ryan haven't mastered yet.
"Oh, very good, very good. Merrick has met the passing standard on his first attempt."
"Ravenclaw +10 points."
When he said this, Professor Flitwick couldn't suppress the smile on his face.
"Remember this flow of magic. As you become more proficient, you will be able to manipulate magic freely, abandoning spells and even your wand to complete the spell."
"If there's anything you don't understand, feel free to ask me anytime."
Professor Flitwick continued to mentor John, recognizing him as a promising talent, especially since he was from their own academy and needed careful nurturing.
......
The curriculum at magic schools differs somewhat from that of regular schools.
For these new students, the initial learning period was relatively easy.
There are only two or three classes a day, depending on the school's schedule.
They had two classes this morning. After the Charms class, it was time for the relatively dry History of Magic class.
For some reason, the classroom for the history of magic was filled with a chill as soon as you stepped inside, like entering an air-conditioned room.
Rows of long tables, full of vintage charm, are covered with various graffiti.
There was only a large blackboard and a podium at the front of the classroom.
Professor Binns was their history of magic teacher and the only ghost professor in the entire school.
As soon as class started, he passed through the wall and suddenly appeared in front of everyone.
Without introducing themselves or their respective disciplines, they entered and immediately said, "Open the first page of 'The History of Magic'."
Then the lesson began immediately.
He was like a single-threaded machine that couldn't interact, lecturing on his own, so much so that John couldn't keep up at first and had to hastily compare the content to find the knowledge point he was talking about.
Afterwards, John and some other students' questions were completely ignored, and they continued to talk about the content in the textbook without any interaction.
After listening to it for a while, it's like white noise telling a story, making everyone's eyelids start to droop.
Perhaps because it was the first time they were taking History of Magic, everyone was drowsy, but they all managed to stay awake. Occasionally, some people would chat or make small movements, but Professor Binns ignored them all.
So everyone gradually tested Professor Binns's limits, only to find that there were no limits at all.
As John listened, he felt as if he had watched short videos of extreme sports in a past life, with AI-generated voices reciting the synopsis of some exciting novels.
It was interesting at first, but I got sleepy as I listened.
It's worth mentioning that halfway through the class, they suddenly heard a voice shouting "Wuhu Wuhu" from far away outside the window.
However, because their classrooms had stained glass windows that couldn't be opened, they couldn't see clearly what was happening outside.
They could only vaguely see some huge creature flying past in the sky outside.
......
The History of Magic course was much shorter than the Charms course, perhaps because the school knew that such a dry course was not suitable for being taught for too long.
After finishing their classes, John and his friends could go have lunch together.
On their way to the Great Hall, John and his companions encountered Neville, who appeared to be alone and had just returned from outside the castle.
The key point is that his school robe was now tattered, as if it had been chewed up by something, and he had a worried look on his face, while holding a furry book in his hand.
"Senior Neville, what's wrong with you?"
Seeing Neville's state, John couldn't help but go up and ask him what was wrong.
He looked like he'd been in a fight, and was the one who got beaten up.
"Oh, John, and... uh, your friend."
Neville was lost in thought when John's sudden appearance interrupted his thoughts, and he responded.
"What's wrong with you, Senior Neville?"
"Uh, it's nothing, don't worry, it was just a little accident during class."
Hearing Neville's answer, John and the others exchanged bewildered glances. What accident had caused him to end up in such a sorry state? Were third-year courses really that dangerous?
Seemingly sensing their curiosity, Neville shared with them the content of his lesson for the day.
The main topic was the Magical Creatures Conservation class we just had. This year's new professor, Hagrid, brought a hippogriff (Hippogriff) as the subject of today's lesson.
Everything was fine at first; his friend Harry Potter even rode it and flew around in the sky.
However, when Harry Potter's nemesis saw Harry return unharmed on his winged beast, he swaggered up to the beast and offended it, losing his right hand in a single claw attack.
The person who was scratched is very powerful, so everyone is worried that Uncle Hagrid will be fired because of this.
After Neville explained the whole story to them, Ryan and the others remembered the shouts of "Whoosh!" outside the window during their History of Magic class. They realized that those shouts must have come from Harry Potter's group.
Speaking of which, Ryan and Titus both know Harry Potter. After all, he's a big celebrity in the wizarding world, and their pure-blood wizarding families know him to some extent.
But after saying all that, it seems none of it is what John cares about...
"So, senior Neville, what's with all that... uh, what's with your tattered school uniform?"
"Oh? You mean this? Don't worry about it, it was bitten by this book."
Neville waved the furry book in his hand at John. The cover had four spider eyes, and the pages looked like the mouths of monsters. If it weren't for the leather strap holding it back, it probably would have jumped up and bitten people.
Is this really a book...?
