I revived the Demonic Sect in North America

Chapter 3: Escape from the Six Doors' Encirclement - Complete!

The car was parked in front of the Bronx Community Hospital.

Karen didn't dare turn to look at Li Ang, hurriedly unbuckling her seatbelt and saying somewhat flusteredly:

"We're here. Come with me, first go to the nurses' station to confirm the location of your guardian."

The two entered the hospital lobby.

The hospital was quiet in the early morning, with only a few nurses on duty sitting at the front desk, dozing off.

The smell of disinfectant permeated the air.

Karen walked up to the nurses' station and flashed her identification.

"Hello, NYPD."

"Hello officer, how can I help you?"

"I'm looking for a patient with kidney failure, Ms. Fiona Gallagher, who should have just finished dialysis. What is her room number?"

The nurse on duty checked on the heavy desktop computer.

"Ms. Gallagher's dialysis has ended, and she is resting in room 307. You can come over anytime."

"Thanks."

Karen turned and walked toward the elevator, with Li Ang following closely behind.

Karen gently pushed open the door to ward 307.

This is a triple room.

Bed number one is empty.

A large, middle-aged man was lying in bed number two, snoring loudly.

The bedside reading light for bed number three was on.

The bed frame was adjusted to about 45 degrees, and a young white girl in a hospital gown was leaning against it.

The girl had beautiful long blonde hair and delicate, well-defined features.

The blue eyes looked a little tired under the light, but were still bright.

Seeing the girl's haggard appearance, Li Ang felt a lump in his throat.

He entered the ward first and gently called out:

"elder sister!"

Fiona was leaning against the hospital bed, carefully checking the bill the nurse had just brought her, her brows furrowed deeply.

Hearing Li Ang call her name, she looked up, a surprised expression on her face:

"Li Ang? What's wrong with you...?"

Then she saw Karen behind Li Ang, who hadn't had time to take off her NYPD tactical bulletproof vest.

Fiona's expression froze.

Karen stepped forward and said gently:

"Excuse me, are you Ms. Gallagher?"

Fiona's gaze darted between Leon and Karen, and she said somewhat nervously:

"Yes, that's me. May I ask... what's going on?"

"Hello, Ms. Gallagher, this is NYPD Constable Karen Jackson."

Karen showed her identification:

"Excuse me for bothering you, but I need to inform you that your ward, Li Ang, was involved in a police operation tonight. He was working part-time as a busker at an underground club that is suspected of engaging in multiple illegal activities, including prostitution, drug trafficking, and gambling."

Fiona's face turned pale instantly, and her thin fingers gripped the bed sheet tightly.

"So what will you do to Li Ang...?"

"Li Ang is fine."

Karen waved her hand and immediately added:

"Li Ang was not charged, nor was he injured. He was simply taken to the police station as an eyewitness to assist with the investigation. We have completed his questioning and drug test, and the results were all negative."

Fiona was finally relieved and breathed a sigh of relief.

Karen continued:

"According to procedure, we need to return the underage witness to his or her guardian, inform him of the relevant circumstances, and remind you that allowing a minor to work in such a high-risk place, even if it is a legal part-time job, poses a great safety risk. As the guardian, you have a responsibility to ensure his or her safety."

Fiona hurriedly said:

"I know... I'm sorry, officer. It's my fault for not taking good care of him. Thank you so much, Officer Karen. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have known that Leon was doing such a dangerous job!"

Fiona then looked at Leon, her eyes filled with worry, lingering fear, and a hint of anger:

"Li Ang, why did you go to work in a place like that? Did you learn bad habits from those bad boys?"

Seeing Fiona so worried about him, Leon felt very sad.

"Sister, I..."

Karen, who was about to leave, couldn't help but say upon seeing this:

"Ms. Gallagher, perhaps you have misunderstood. We have investigated Li Ang, and he has not been involved in any illegal activities. He was simply employed to perform legally."

After thinking for a moment, Karen added:

"This child told us that he just wanted to earn more money to cover your medical expenses."

Fiona stared blankly at Karen, then turned to look at Leon, her blue eyes gradually becoming misty.

"Li Ang, I don't need you to do that. What I need isn't money, and it's not those damn bills!"

"What I need most is for you to focus on your studies, get into a good university, find a good job, and leave the slums!"

Li Ang shook his head, stubbornly saying:

"What you need most is health, sister! I'll find a way to get the money. I can start school later. But you absolutely cannot get hurt."

"Shut up, Li Ang!"

Fiona took a quick breath and said with exasperation:

"I won't allow you to say anything about dropping out of school!"

Li Ang remained unmoved and retorted:

"Sister, if I were lying in a hospital bed right now, I believe you would make the same choice as me!"

Upon hearing this, Fiona's rebuke, which was on the tip of her tongue, suddenly choked back.

She and Li Ang had actually known each other for a long time.

Li Ang suffered domestic violence from a young age, being beaten half to death countless times by his biological parents and abandoned at a community clinic. It was Fiona, who was a doctor at the clinic at the time, who personally took care of him.

Because of similar childhood experiences, Fiona has always taken good care of Leon.

Two years ago, Li Ang's house caught fire, and both his parents died. Fiona then naturally adopted Li Ang.

This sensible boy became the only light in Fiona's life.

Together they faced poverty, disease, and all sorts of unpleasant things on the streets of the Bronx.

The two are not related by blood, but their relationship is closer than that of blood relatives.

Faced with Li Ang's insistence, Fiona ultimately couldn't bring herself to say anything harsh.

She simply slumped back against the pillow and wiped the corner of her eye.

"Li Ang, you idiot..."

The ward quieted down, except for the deafening snoring from the patient in the next bed.

This heartwarming family scene made Karen feel a little uncomfortable. She coughed lightly and said:

"That's the situation, Ms. Gallagher. I've delivered the person safely. If there are any further legal needs, the District Attorney's Office will contact you."

After saying that, she took a business card out of her pants pocket and placed it on the bedside table.

"This is the police precinct's phone number on the business card. Also, regarding youth services and possible medical assistance, we suggest you contact the Community Services Department for consultation."

She paused, looked at Li Ang, and then said:

"Li Ang, don't risk making your sister worry anymore."

After saying that, Karen turned and walked towards the door.

Li Ang immediately followed:

"I'll see you off, Miss Karen."

Karen stopped at the elevator entrance and turned back to say:

"That's enough for now. Go back and spend some time with your sister."

Li Ang looked at her and said seriously:

"Ms. Karen, thank you so much for tonight."

Karen waved her hand:

"No need for that. I was just following standard law enforcement procedures as outlined in the NYPD Handbook."

After saying that, he turned around and pressed the button for the elevator to go down.

"that……"

Li Ang hurriedly said:

"Miss Karen, will I ever see you again?"

Karen's body stiffened almost imperceptibly.

She didn't turn around, but her ears turned bright red.

Li Ang then said:

"Um, Ms. Karen, I mean, there might be something else going on in this case, and I might need to consult with you privately for further information..."

Karen, facing the elevator, forced herself to remain calm and said:

"Didn't I give you the precinct's business card? According to the NYPD Handbook, for cases, just call the number on the business card."

Li Ang feigned disappointment and said:

"I'm so sorry, Miss Karen. It's all my fault for relying on you so much... I'm so weak, always subconsciously wanting to depend on you. I'm so awful!"

Karen froze again.

Soon, the elevator doors opened and closed again, but Karen remained standing still.

Li Ang was puzzled, but then he saw Karen turn around and stride toward the nurses' station not far away.

The nurse on duty on this floor is dozing off.

Karen tapped the table.

"Hello, do you have paper and a pen?"

The nurse, still half asleep, handed me a notepad and a ballpoint pen.

Karen took it, leaned against the table, quickly wrote down a string of numbers, and tore off the piece of paper.

He then quickly walked back to Li Ang and stuffed the note into his hand.

"This is my phone number."

The elevator doors had already closed, and the elevator descended back to the first floor.

Karen stopped looking at Li Ang and didn't press the elevator button. She went straight down the stairs through the fire escape.

Li Ang grinned and happily put the note into his pocket.

Just then, a system notification sounded in his mind:

[Ding~ Host has successfully completed the mission, escaped the encirclement of the Imperial Six Doors, and survived, taking a crucial step towards the revival of the sect!]
