Chapter 108 Rendezvous
Gojo Satoru had already returned to the hotel before him.
When he jumped out of the window into the corridor, Ieiri Shoko was sitting next to Natsuyuki, holding a cup of cola and with an unlit cigarette in her mouth, her expression back to that lazy, uninterested look.
Nanami Kento and Haibara Yu stood at the doorway, arms crossed, their expressions calm, but their brows were slightly furrowed, as if they were thinking about something.
Kuroi Misato sat in the chair opposite Natsuyu Jie, holding a cup in both hands. The cup contained hot water, which was steaming. She didn't drink it, but just held it, her fingers gently stroking the inside of the cup.
Looking at this scene, which was oppressive yet peaceful, Gojo Satoru said, "Huh? Nobody's coming?"
Seeing the disappointment on his face, Ieiri Shoko couldn't help but wonder, "How can you talk like that?"
"Isn't it a good thing that no one is attacking anymore?"
"That's a good thing."
Gojo Satoru stopped and said, "But Lord Gojo is very disappointed."
Seeing Gojo Satoru jump in through the window, Nanami Kento looked up: "Gojo-senpai, how is it?"
Gojo Satoru waved his hand, his tone relaxed: "There are no traps over there. Tenen has already rescued the people and is on his way back."
Nanami Kento let out a long breath, and his tense shoulders finally relaxed.
Misato Kuroi raised her head, her eyes still red, but the corners of her mouth curved slightly. The smile was faint, but there was a glimmer of light in her eyes.
Xia Youjie leaned against the wall, the bandage on his chest soaked with blood, which looked glaring under the light, but his complexion improved the moment he heard the news.
Gojo Satoru walked up to him, squatted down, and tilted his head to look at him: "Gai, tell me, what was the purpose of this attack?"
Xia Youjie was silent for a moment, then spoke, his voice hoarse: "...I don't know."
No one died.
Gojo Satoru raised a finger and pointed it in the air: "You're the only one seriously injured; the others are either lightly injured or unconscious."
He paused, a slight smile playing on his lips, a half-joking tone: "Tell me, did you offend someone, and they've come looking for revenge?"
Xia Youjie glanced at him, his lips twitched, and he forced a smile: "...That's not true."
Shoko Ieiri appeared behind him and slapped him on the head, causing Satoru Gojo to stumble.
"If you can't speak properly, then don't speak at all!"
She stood with her hands on her hips, angrily saying, "Don't you know that patients need to be emotionally stable?!"
"Hahaha!"
Gojo Satoru covered his head and laughed carefree, "Just kidding! Don't be angry, Shoko."
When Tianyan returned with Tianlizi, it was already dark.
He flew into the corridor through the window, his purple-gold bone wings folding and dissipating into tiny specks of light.
Riko jumped off his back, staggering slightly when she landed, but quickly regained her balance. Her eyes swept around the corridor, and when she saw Misato Kuroi, the tears in her eyes finally welled up and spilled out.
"Kuroi!" She ran over and buried her face in Kuroi Misato's arms.
Kuroi Misato hugged her, tears streaming down her face. The two of them embraced and cried together.
Shoko Ieiri stood to the side, hands in her pockets, tilting her head as she looked at them, a slight smile playing on her lips.
"Alright, alright, it's good that you're alright, don't cry." Her voice was soft, but her tone carried a warm and comforting meaning.
Riko lifted her head from Misato Kuroi's embrace, wiped away her tears with the back of her hand, and then turned around to look at Natsuyuki, who was leaning against the wall.
"Mr. Xia You..."
Her voice trembled: "Are you...are you alright?"
Xia Youjie looked at her and gave a slight, faint smile: "It's nothing."
His voice was hoarse but clear: "It was just a superficial wound, it's already healed."
Looking at him, whose gentle smile was gone, Riko's lips moved as if she wanted to say something, but in the end she didn't say anything. She just nodded, then turned around and threw herself back into Misato Kuroi's arms.
Gojo Satoru took his phone out of Tenen's pocket, glanced at the photo again, and the smile on his lips slowly faded, replaced by a serious, thoughtful expression.
"What was the purpose of this attack?"
He whispered, as if talking to himself, "No one died, only Jay was seriously injured..."
He paused for a moment, then handed the phone back to Tianyan.
I don't understand.
He said, with a sense of helplessness in his tone, "This question is too hard, I don't want to do it anymore: Forget it, I don't want to think about it anymore, as long as everyone is alright."
......
The group spent another day in Okinawa.
Riko recovered quickly, and by the next morning she was running around on the beach. Her feet left a trail of shallow footprints in the soft white sand, the sea breeze made her hair fly wildly, and a bright smile graced her lips, making her look exactly like a girl her age.
Gojo Satoru followed behind, wearing those flashy beach shorts, huge sunglasses, a drink with a small umbrella in his hand, and flip-flops on his feet. He looked like he was on vacation.
He caught up with Riko Tennen, handed her the drink, and the two stood on the beach, looking at the distant horizon. The sunlight shone on them, casting long, long shadows.
"Hey, kid," Gojo Satoru said, his voice carrying a lazy and casual tone.
"Hmm?" Riko turned her head and glanced at him.
"What will happen to you after you've been assimilated?" Gojo Satoru's voice was very soft, almost carried away by the sea breeze: "Will you still remember what happened now?"
Riko was silent for a moment, then smiled. The smile was so bright that it was almost blinding.
"Of course!"
She exclaimed loudly, "I am Tengen!"
She paused, turned her head to look at the sea, and her smile widened: "Besides, I'm happy now, and that's enough."
Gojo Satoru looked at her, remained silent for a moment, and then the corners of his mouth slowly curved up.
"You're quite optimistic," he said.
Xia Youjie sat on the balcony on the second floor of the hotel, wearing a white hospital gown and bandages, but he looked much better than yesterday.
He sat in a chair, holding a book in his hand, but he didn't open it. He simply placed the book on his lap, his gaze fixed on the distant blue sea.
Nanami Kento came out of the room and sat down in the chair next to him.
"How are you feeling today?" he asked.
Xia Youjie turned her head to look at him, a slight smile curving her lips: "Much better."
Nanami nodded and said nothing more. The two sat side by side on the balcony, looking at the sea in the distance and listening to the sound of the waves crashing on the beach. Neither of them spoke.
The silence lasted for a long time.
Then Xia Youjie spoke, his voice very soft, as if he were talking to himself.
"Nanami."
Nanami Kento looked up at him.
"you say......"
Am I... too weak?
