A top star in the Chinese entertainment industry, but also a Taoist priest.
Chapter 12: Jin Dajun, wake up, you're not allowed to sleep here.
Zhao Mingyuan didn't ask any further questions, and stepped aside to introduce, "Director, this is Master Qingquan, the abbot of Zifu Temple, whom I invited from the capital. The abbot came here specially to preside over our opening ceremony."
As he spoke, he turned to Chen Shouyi and said, "Master, this is our drama's director, Lin Yufen, and this is the executive producer, Li Guoli."
Chen Shouyi nodded slightly and bowed with his hands clasped in a Taoist salute: "May the Heavenly Venerable grant you boundless blessings."
Lin Yufen nodded in return.
She looked Chen Shouyi up and down, her gaze lingering on his young face for a moment, but she didn't say much, only saying something indifferently:
"Thank you for your hard work, Taoist priest."
The tone was polite, but that was all.
Li Guoli glanced at Chen Shouyi more than once. He was a man of few words, and when he looked people up and down, his gaze was steady, revealing no emotion.
He was wearing a dark jacket, was slender, and had a pair of gold-rimmed glasses perched on his nose. He exuded the composure of an old-fashioned Hong Konger.
His gaze lingered on Chen Shouyi's face for a moment, then he nodded slightly as a greeting, without saying anything more.
Lin Yufen and Li Guoli are both veterans of Tangren Media, with backgrounds in Hong Kong and Taiwan. They have been in the industry for decades and have seen it all.
In their view, inviting Taoist priests to perform rituals is just a routine procedure for film crews, similar to burning incense at the start of filming, and not a big deal.
Once the person arrives, they just need to complete the procedures.
Zhao Mingyuan was quick-witted and pointed to the person next to him: "This is Mr. Fang from Juku Media."
Fang Xu extended his hand with a polite smile: "Fang Xu, it's a pleasure to meet you."
Chen Shouyi shook hands with him and nodded.
Zhao Mingyuan added from the side, "President Fang, Master Qingquan is not only good at feng shui and face reading, but also an expert in conditioning the body. Several of our old colleagues have consulted him."
Fang Xu's gaze shifted slightly, his eyes now scrutinizing Chen Shouyi, but he didn't say anything on the spot, only smiled:
"The Taoist priest is truly remarkable."
After saying that, he followed Lin Yufen and Li Guoli into the shed.
After walking a few steps, Fang Xu turned his head and whispered something to his assistant, then looked back at Chen Shouyi.
Shouzhuo whispered, "Master, that person just now—"
"I'm leaving." Chen Shouyi didn't let him finish speaking.
Zhao Mingyuan rubbed his hands together: "Daoist Master, please let me know later about the changes to the scenes we looked at this morning. I've already had the offering table and incense prepared for the opening ceremony; please take a look tomorrow if you have time."
"I will go and see it first thing tomorrow morning."
"Okay. You rest first, I'll go keep an eye on the offering table." After saying that, Zhao Mingyuan pulled Li Xianchang out of the shed.
Chen Shouyi and Shouzhuo lagged behind, slowly walking out. Shouzhuo sensibly handed over the thermos, and Chen Shouyi took it and drank a sip.
When he reached the vicinity of the main shed, Chen Shouyi paused slightly.
He felt several gazes upon him.
It wasn't the kind of casual glance from a passerby; it was the kind of staring gaze that was accompanied by discussion.
He didn't turn his head immediately, but instead glanced in that direction discreetly.
Several young women were standing under an antique-style locust tree diagonally opposite the main shed.
Standing at the very edge was Chen Yao, whom I had just met last night.
She still had that same calm and collected demeanor, wearing black-rimmed glasses and her hair casually draped over her shoulders.
But her gaze was directed past the crowd under the tree and quietly landed on Chen Shouyi.
Their eyes met briefly in mid-air.
Chen Yao was slightly taken aback, then quickly looked away and adjusted his glasses.
"—That's him! The Taoist priest Chen Yao was talking about!"
Jin Chen's voice drifted over from a distance.
Naza, holding her coffee cup, looked over and said, "She does look quite young, much younger than I expected."
"I already told you," Chen Yao said softly.
"You said last night that you were even better looking than Lao Hu," Jin Chen clicked his tongue, "I didn't believe you at the time."
"Do you believe me now?" Tang Yixin asked with a smile.
Jin Chen didn't answer, but his eyes said it all.
She glanced at Chen Shouyi again, her gaze sweeping from his face to the purple Taoist robe he wore, then to the compass in his hand, and finally lingering on him.
"Jin Dajun, wake up, we're not allowed to sleep here." Nazha shook her.
"I wasn't asleep either," Jin Chen said, swatting Nazha's hand away in dissatisfaction. "That Taoist priest is really handsome!"
"Can't you be a little more dignified! Watch your drool!"
"Where did that drool come from? Nazha, you actually lied to me!" Jin Chen subconsciously wiped his mouth before realizing he had been tricked by Nazha, and gave her a playful slap.
Naza easily dodged the question, laughing and saying, "Hahahaha, who told you to be so engrossed in watching!"
Zhang Ruoyun, who was standing next to Tang Yixin, was tugged at and put away the phone she was looking at.
He glanced in that direction following the girls' gazes before looking away:
"So you guys made a special trip to the film set today just to see a Taoist priest?"
"What do you mean, 'just to see a Taoist priest'?" Jin Chen rolled his eyes at him. "He's a highly skilled person that Director Zhao specially invited from the capital. What's wrong with us coming to observe him?"
"When did you become interested in feng shui?" Zhang Ruoyun asked.
"Ever since I heard this Taoist priest was incredibly handsome, well," Jin Chen said confidently, then glanced at Chen Shouyi not far away and burst out laughing, "now I'm even more interested!"
Zhang Ruoyun shook her head and glanced at Chen Shouyi in the distance.
The Taoist priest was standing by the roadside. The master and his disciple looked calm and collected, and their every move exuded an indescribable air of composure.
"He looks pretty stylish," he couldn't help but admit.
"Of course," Tang Yixin said with a smile, "Chen Yao's judgment was right this time."
Chen Yao felt a little embarrassed by those words, pursed her lips, and didn't reply.
As the group was talking, Zhao Mingyuan returned from Chen Shouyi's side, said a few words to him, and then walked to the other end of the shantytown.
Lin Yufen and her group also came out of the shed and headed in another direction along the main street. Fang Xu followed behind, and after walking a few steps, he looked back.
Jin Chen, with his sharp eyes, noticed this detail: "Who is that person? He's been staring at my Taoist priest the whole time. What does he want?!"
"It seems to be someone from Juku, probably looking for Director Lin."
Tang Yixin thought for a moment, then quickly realized something was wrong and turned to look at Jin Chen: "Wait, wait, when did I become your Taoist priest?"
"Just now, the moment I saw him, I knew he was mine!"
Jin Chen withdrew his gaze, turned to look at Tang Yixin and Nazha, and directly uttered harsh words:
"You guys who already have partners aren't allowed to steal him from me, you hear me?!"
Tang Yixin tugged at Zhang Ruoyun's arm and said with a smile, "No, no, it's yours, it's yours!"
Naza was clearly annoyed with this food-hogging guy, and couldn't help but roll her eyes:
"But that cool guy just turned around and looked at your Taoist priest, and his gaze was really strange!"
"I guess they think the Taoist priest is young," Jin Chen said dismissively. "Who wouldn't think he's young the first time they meet him?"
