Douluo Continent: I can overdraft the future in advance
Chapter 31 Subdued
Li Xunjiang got up from the ground, rubbed his numb arm, and looked at Luo Yun with disbelief instead of defiance.
"Want to come again?" Luo Yun asked.
Li Xunjiang gritted his teeth and charged forward again. He refused to believe in evil; the Wind Demon Ape's martial spirit granted him strength and endurance, and he wasn't afraid of a head-on confrontation.
One punch, two punches, three punches.
Luo Yun caught every punch, and each collision forced Li Xunjiang to take a step back. By the fifth punch, Li Xunjiang's fist had begun to tremble.
Luo Yun gave him no chance to catch his breath. He didn't take the sixth punch, but instead dodged it, landing a punch on Li Xunjiang's shoulder. Li Xunjiang flew backward, crashing onto the edge of the fighting arena, half his body already outside the boundary.
The stands were completely silent.
Li Xunjiang tried to stand up by supporting himself on the ground, but failed twice.
"Enough." Zhou Yi's voice came from below the stage, "Li Xunjiang is out of bounds, Luo Yunsheng."
Luo Yun withdrew his fist and took a step back. Several red marks appeared on his arms, but they were far from being serious injuries. The miniature meridians in his arms came into play at this moment. With each punch, his soul power flowed through his muscles, dissipating most of the recoil force. Li Xunjiang's punches felt like hitting cotton to him.
The stands were quiet for a few seconds, then a murmur arose.
"A few punches were enough to knock Li Xunjiang off the stage..."
"He hasn't used his soul skill yet."
Li Xunjiang walked back to the group, head down. No one laughed at him—everyone had seen clearly that it wasn't that he was too weak, but that the squad leader was too strong.
Zhou Yi stood below the stage, looking at Luo Yun expressionlessly, without saying a word.
Luo Yun stood on the Soul Battle Platform, his gaze sweeping over the students in the stands.
"Anything else you'd like to try?"
There was a moment of silence in the line. Then someone raised their hand.
"I'll do it."
A girl stepped out from the line. She was short, with a ponytail, delicate features, and a smile on her lips. She was the vice class monitor, Su Xiaowan.
"Su Xiaowan." She stood on the Soul Battle Platform. "Level 22, Martial Soul: Spirit Fire Cat."
She looked at Luo Yun and smiled, "Class monitor, don't blame me for having an elemental advantage."
Firecat, a fire-type. Ice is indeed weak against fire.
"Let's begin," Zhou Yi said.
Without hesitation, Su Xiaowan activated her Martial Soul Possession. Orange-red down sprouted from her hands, her nails became sharp, her eyes turned into vertical pupils, and her first Soul Ring lit up. She pushed off with her feet, flames ignited in her claws, and she charged forward.
Luo Yun did not move.
He took a deep breath and activated his first soul skill. A pale yellow soul ring lit up, and a mouthful of icy mist spewed from his mouth, precisely covering Su Xiaowan's path. The temperature of the icy mist was extremely low, and the moment Su Xiaowan rushed in, her speed noticeably slowed down; her fire-attribute soul power was suppressed by the icy mist.
"It's so cold—" She shivered and stumbled.
Taking advantage of the situation, Luo Yun stepped forward and punched her in the shoulder. The force wasn't great, but it was enough to make her lose her balance. Su Xiaowan staggered two steps, and before she could regain her footing, Luo Yun's second punch arrived—hitting her arm and forcing her back to the edge of the fighting arena.
Su Xiaowan gritted her teeth, wanting to unleash her soul skill to counterattack, but the icy mist hadn't dissipated yet, and her soul power was circulating a beat slower than usual. In that one beat, Luo Yun's third punch had already arrived.
The punch didn't land on her body, but rather on an empty spot to her side. The force of the blow grazed her ear, bringing a chill.
Su Xiaowan paused for a moment, then smiled.
"I lost." She withdrew her martial spirit, jumped off the fighting platform decisively, glanced back at Luo Yun, and said, "Class monitor, your ice temperature is too low."
Luo Yun smiled but didn't say anything.
The murmurs from the stands grew louder.
"Even elemental advantage is useless..."
"What's the class monitor's actual skill level?"
Luo Yun stood on the stage and glanced at the line again.
"Is there anything else?"
After a few seconds of silence, another person came out.
"I'll go." A tall, thin boy jumped onto the fighting platform. "Liu Yang, level 21, Martial Soul: Wind Blade."
The result was the same: the ice mist slowed him down, and he knocked himself off the stage with two punches. From beginning to end, Luo Yun only used one move, the ice mist; the rest were all punches.
Three consecutive wins. The stands were completely silent.
Luo Yun stood on the battle platform, his breathing steady, not even breaking a sweat. He glanced at the team, about to speak, when someone pushed their way out of the crowd.
"I'll do it, I'll do it."
Chen Jiyong ran towards the stage while raising his hand, a smile on his round face. He jumped onto the fighting platform, stood opposite Luo Yun, and rubbed his hands together.
"Brother Yun, don't blame me," he said with a grin. "You've played three matches already, I don't believe you still have that much energy. What if I win? The class monitor position will be mine."
Luo Yun looked at him and couldn't help but laugh.
"Okay, you can do it."
Chen Jiyong took a deep breath and activated his Martial Soul. A circle of earth-yellow light shone beneath his feet, and chess piece-shaped lights and shadows emerged around him, arranging themselves in an array on the ground. That was his Martial Soul—Earth Chessboard, a weapon-type Martial Soul that controls the earth element and follows a control-oriented path.
"Let's begin," Zhou Yi said.
Chen Jiyong did not rush to attack. With a wave of his hands, three chess pieces rose from the ground and flew towards Luo Yun. The pieces grew larger in mid-air, transforming into three stone slabs, ready to block Luo Yun's left, right, and top.
Luo Yun didn't dodge. He exhaled a breath of icy mist, which enveloped the stone slab in front of him, causing frost to form on its surface and slowing his flight. He sidestepped through the gap and rushed to Chen Jiyong's side in one step.
Chen Jiyong was startled and quickly waved his hand, summoning two more chess pieces to block in front of him. But Luo Yun's fist had already arrived—one punch shattered the first chess piece, the second punch shattered the second, and the third punch stopped in front of Chen Jiyong, the wind from the punch grazing his nose.
Chen Jiyong froze.
He blinked, looked at the fist that had stopped in front of him, and then looked at Luo Yun.
"Yun-ge, you..." He swallowed hard, "You've played three matches, how do you still have this much stamina?"
Luo Yun withdrew his fist: "Talent, I suppose."
Chen Jiyong withdrew his martial spirit and jumped off the fighting platform. As he walked back, he muttered, "I should have known better than to go on. It was embarrassing."
Four consecutive wins, using only one move, Ice Mist, from start to finish; the rest was all punches, with high damage from the left punch and the right punch.
No one raised their hand in the stands anymore.
Zhou Yi stood below the stage, looking at Luo Yun, but she made no comment.
"Anything else you want to challenge?"
No one spoke.
"That's settled then. The class monitor will remain the same."
She glanced at Luo Yun, then at the others.
"Everyone saw it clearly in today's practical exercise. Shrek's rules are simple—strength speaks for itself."
She paused, her gaze sweeping over everyone.
"Is there anything else you don't understand?"
silence.
Zhou Yi nodded and turned to look at the male teacher in white next to her.
"Teacher Song, please treat these students."
The male teacher in white nodded.
Luo Yun stepped down from the Soul Battle Platform, and Chen Jiyong went up to him, looking him up and down.
"Yun-ge, tell me honestly, are you hiding something?" His tone carried a hint of resentment. "Four matches, and you haven't even broken a sweat?"
Luo Yun smiled but didn't answer. He hadn't used his full strength—the miniaturized meridians in his arms gave him strength and stamina far exceeding that of his peers, so he only used half his power against these freshmen.
"Alright, alright, stop asking." He patted Chen Jiyong on the shoulder. "Go practice. Don't fail the assessment and get expelled by Teacher Zhou."
Chen Jiyong's expression changed, and he quickly ran back to his team to find someone to spar with.
