Douluo Continent: I can overdraft the future in advance
Chapter 27 Zhou Yi
Luo Yun stood downstairs at the dormitory building and looked up at the tall structure. Gray exterior walls, neat windows, and a stone tablet at the entrance inscribed with the word "Dormitory."
There was a deck chair next to the dormitory gate, and an old man was lying on it sunbathing.
The old man was wearing an ordinary gray robe, his hair was gray, his face was deeply wrinkled, and his eyes were closed, as if he were asleep. His breathing was very slow, so slow that you could hardly see his chest rising and falling.
Luo Yun remembered it when he saw this classic pose and location.
Dragon God Douluo, Mu En. The strongest student at Shrek Academy, and one of the strongest on the entire continent. A level 99 Limit Douluo, with the Martial Soul of the Holy Light Dragon. In the original story, he liked to lie down in the sun under the freshman dormitory, observing every passing student to see if there were any promising talents worth nurturing.
Luo Yun couldn't help but take a few more glances. This legendary peerless expert looked like an ordinary old man at this moment—white hair, a sunburnt face, and a damp towel in his hand.
Just then, the old man opened his eyes.
Those eyes were cloudy and yellowish, with wrinkles piled up at the corners, making him look no different from an ordinary old man. But Luo Yun knew that once those eyes lit up, the entire continent would tremble.
The two looked at each other.
Luo Yun paused for a moment, then subconsciously smiled and nodded as a greeting. He didn't try to show anything special; it was just a polite smile, like he was giving a greeting to an ordinary elder, before turning and walking into the dormitory building.
On the recliner behind him, the old man watched the child's figure disappear into the building, a glimmer of light flashing in his cloudy eyes.
He sat up slightly, stared at the building entrance for several seconds, and then the corners of his mouth slowly turned up.
"That's interesting." His voice was low, as if he were talking to himself, or as if he were speaking to someone else.
Then he lay back down, closed his eyes, and continued to sunbathe.
Second floor, room 207.
When Luo Yun pushed open the door, there was already someone in the room.
It was a boy about his age, with a round face, fair skin, and a slender build, squatting on the ground unpacking a package. He moved slowly, examining each item carefully before putting it in the cabinet—a few changes of clothes, a set of toiletries, several thick books, and a small wooden box, the contents of which were unknown.
Hearing the door open, the boy looked up, revealing a friendly face.
"Hello, are you also from 207?" He stood up, dusting off his hands. "My name is Chen Jiyong, and I'm from the Douling Empire."
Luo Yun was taken aback. The Douling Empire? What a coincidence.
"Luo Yun is also from the Douling Empire." He extended his hand. "Wuyun City."
Chen Jiyong's eyes lit up, and he gripped his hand tightly. "I'm from Baishui City! It's not far from your place; it only takes a day by carriage."
The two clasped hands and laughed. Meeting a fellow countryman in a foreign land felt wonderful.
"Did you come alone?" Luo Yun asked.
"My father saw me off at the city gate and then left," Chen Jiyong said. "He said I was twelve years old and it was time for me to make my own way in the world."
Luo Yun nodded, walked to the other empty bed, and put down his package. The room wasn't big; there were two beds, two tables, and a wardrobe—that was all. He had to prepare all the other necessities himself.
The two spent about half an hour tidying up. Chen Jiyong was slow; it took him a long time to fold a single piece of clothing. By the time Luo Yun finished, he still had half left to do.
"At this rate, won't you be late for class?" Luo Yun sat on the bed and looked at him.
"I'm used to it, I'm used to it." Chen Jiyong smiled sheepishly. "My mother said I've always been slow since I was little. I eat slowly, I walk slowly, I do everything slowly."
"Cultivation is slow too?"
"No, that's not it." Chen Jiyong rarely showed a hint of pride. "My innate soul power is level six, and at twelve years old, I'm at level twenty-one. Not fast, but not slow either, right?"
Luo Yun nodded. Twelve years old and twenty-one levels is indeed quite good among ordinary people.
After packing their things, the two decided to go out for a walk and familiarize themselves with the surroundings.
Luo Yun led Chen Jiyong along the route Beibei had previously taken them through—the teaching building area, Shrek Square, and Poseidon Lake. Chen Jiyong didn't talk much, but he would stop at each place to look carefully, muttering to himself as if he were memorizing the route.
"That's the white teaching building over there, for freshmen. Yellow is for second and third year students, purple is for fourth and fifth year students, and black is for sixth year students," Luo Yun explained, pointing to a row of buildings in the distance.
"The Soul Guidance Department is over there, it's gray."
Chen Jiyong listened and nodded, his expression as serious as if he were in class.
When they reached Shrek Square, the two stopped for a moment in front of the statue. Chen Jiyong looked up at Tang San's statue, his eyes shining.
"The Shrek Seven Devils." His voice carried a hint of respect. "I heard their stories from my father when I was a child."
Luo Yun didn't reply, stood with him for a while, and then continued walking forward.
When Luo Yun reached the notice board, he stopped and looked for his name on it.
Martial Spirit Department, Class 3, First Year. Class Teacher: Zhou Yi.
His finger hovered over the line of text, and his brow furrowed slightly.
"What's wrong?" Chen Jiyong leaned closer. "Have you found your class yet?"
"Class 3. The homeroom teacher is Zhou Yi."
Chen Jiyong looked through the list. "I'm in Class 3 too. Zhou Yi... that's a pretty normal name. Why do you look so pale?"
Luo Yun shook his head: "It's nothing."
He wasn't telling the truth. He couldn't very well say that he had seen this teacher in the original story and knew how terrifying she was—in a word, she was insane, expelling anyone who failed an assessment, being abnormally strict, and using a teaching method that was uniquely Shrek Academy's millennia-old tradition of running.
"Let's go back to the dorm." He patted Chen Jiyong on the shoulder. "School starts the day after tomorrow, get some rest."
Two days later, school officially started.
Early in the morning, Luo Yun and Chen Jiyong got up. Chen Jiyong was slow and dawdled for a while while washing up and getting dressed before the two hurriedly headed to the white teaching building.
The classroom for Class 3, Grade 1, was on the far east side of the second floor. When the two arrived, the classroom was already more than half full. Luo Yun found a seat by the window, and Chen Jiyong sat down next to him.
The classroom was noisy, with freshmen chatting in twos and threes. Some were excited, some were nervous, and some were trying to appear calm. Luo Yun leaned back in his chair, looking at the door, waiting for that familiar figure to appear.
Footsteps came from the end of the corridor, very light, but very steady.
The noisy classroom suddenly fell silent.
A middle-aged woman walked into the classroom. She was thin, dressed in a black teacher's uniform, her hair neatly tied up, and her face expressionless. Her gaze swept over everyone in the classroom like a knife, and no one dared to meet her eyes when she looked at them.
Zhou Yi.
She walked up to the podium, slammed a stack of papers on the table with a loud "thud," and several students in the classroom jumped in fright.
"I don't care where you come from, who your family is, or how talented or powerful you are." Her voice wasn't loud, but every word was clear. "Once you're in this class, you have to follow my rules."
The classroom was completely silent.
Zhou Yi's gaze swept around the classroom and then stopped at the last row.
"Have there been any fights in the last two days of school?" she suddenly asked.
No one answered.
"I'm asking you, is there any fighting?"
Still no answer.
Zhou Yi's lips twitched, a smile that was also a cold laugh.
"Okay. No, right?" She nodded. "Then everyone, get out there, to the track, one hundred laps. Don't come back to class if you don't finish."
The classroom erupted in uproar.
"Why should we?" a boy in the front row stood up. "We didn't fight—"
"One hundred and twenty laps." Zhou Yi didn't even look at him.
The boy opened his mouth, as if he wanted to say something, but the person next to him pulled him down, and he gritted his teeth and sat down.
"Does anyone else have any objections?" Zhou Yi asked.
No one spoke.
"Then let's go. Now."
