Douluo Continent: I can overdraft the future in advance
Chapter 26 Shrek Academy
The day I set off to report to Shrek Academy was a sunny day.
Luo Yuntian woke up before dawn and checked his luggage again.
The clothes, the city lord's letter of recommendation, the Soul Master's badge, and the semi-finished first-tier Soul Guide Ray Gun given by Master Fang—item by item were checked to make sure nothing was missing before the package was re-tied up.
When I went downstairs, Lin was already busy in the kitchen. Animal milk was boiling in a pot, and freshly cooked meat patties and several side dishes were on the stove.
Luo Yun nodded and buried himself in his food.
Luo Xing sat opposite him, barely touching his chopsticks, just watching him eat. Halfway through the meal, Luo Xing took out a money pouch from his pocket and placed it on the table.
"Travel expenses, tuition fees, and six months' living expenses," he said. "Don't be stingy, spend what you need to spend."
After finishing his meal, he slung his bag over his shoulder and went outside. Master Fang was already waiting at the door, still wearing that dark leather overcoat, with a short knife and several soul tools hanging at his waist.
"Let's go," said Master Fang. "I'll take you to Shrek Academy."
Luo Yun glanced back. Luo Xing stood at the door, and Lin Shi stood behind him. Neither of them spoke; they were simply looking at him.
He turned around and followed Master Fang out of the city.
---
The journey from Wuyun City to Shrek Academy is not short. First, you need to travel south for three days, crossing the border of the Douling Empire and entering the outer area of the Star Dou Great Forest. Then, you need to travel west for two days to reach Shrek City.
The first three days went smoothly. The official road was flat, and there were villages and towns along the way, so they could always find a place to stay before dark. The two rented a horse-drawn carriage and traveled at a moderate pace.
On the fourth day, they entered the outer perimeter of the Star Dou Great Forest.
Along the way, Luo Yun also kept an eye out for that classic "Soul Beasts Appear" sign.
However, since Huo Yuhao started from the Star Luo Empire while he started from the Dou Ling Empire, their routes were different, so they probably wouldn't meet.
---
Two days later, they arrived at Shrek City.
Luo Yun stood at the city gate, looking up at the towering gate. The gate was made of bluestone and stood over ten meters high, with four large characters carved on it: "Shrek City." The characters were vigorous and powerful, said to have been written by the founder of the academy himself.
People came and went at the city gate. There were merchants carrying packages, soul masters riding soul beasts, and young children carrying luggage like him—all of them were there to register.
Master Fang stopped at the city gate.
"I'm not going in," he said. "Are you sure you can manage by yourself?"
Luo Yun nodded.
Master Fang took a small bag out of his pocket and handed it to him. "Inside are some commonly used soul tool parts and tools. Don't let your skills go to waste once you get to the academy."
Luo Yun stood there, watching his figure disappear at the end of the official road, then turned around and walked into Shrek City.
---
Shrek Academy is located in the east of the city, occupying nearly a third of the city's area. Luo Yun asked for directions along the way and walked for almost half an hour before finally seeing the academy's gate.
It was a massive archway, twenty meters high, constructed entirely of white stone and carved with various patterns of spirit beasts and martial spirits. A plaque hung in the center of the archway, bearing the words "Shrek Academy."
A long line of new students was waiting to register at the entrance. Luo Yun joined the end of the line and waited for about half an hour before it was finally his turn.
The reception area consisted of a long table, behind which sat several older students. A girl wearing glasses was handling registration, asking without looking up:
"Name, age, place of origin, and letters of recommendation."
"Luo Yun, eleven years old, from Wuyun City, Douling Empire." He handed over the city lord's letter of recommendation.
The girl took it, glanced at it, looked up, and sized him up. "Eleven years old? From the Second Ring Road?"
"Yes."
"Martial Soul?"
"Ice Falcon".
"Soul power level?"
"Level 23."
After listening, the girl made a few notes in the booklet, then took out a number plate from the drawer and handed it to him. "There will be an assessment every three months. If you fail the assessment, you will be expelled. School hasn't officially started yet, so you can ask a senior to show you around and familiarize you with the environment."
She looked around again and called out to a passing boy. "Beibei, take him to the dormitory."
Luo Yun paused for a moment when he heard the name.
Beibei.
The boy who had been called turned around. He was about thirteen or fourteen years old, with delicate features, wearing a yellow school uniform, and a gentle smile on his face.
"Okay, senior." He walked up to Luo Yun. "Are you a freshman? Come with me."
Luo Yun followed him into the campus, still processing the information he had just received.
Beibei. Yellow college uniform. That means he's a second- or third-year student in the foreign language department.
"What year is Senior Beibei in?" Luo Yun asked.
"Second year." Beibei smiled. "You can just call me Beibei, no need to call me senior."
Luo Yun nodded and didn't ask any more questions.
Beibei led him through a tree-lined path, with tall sycamore trees on both sides, their leaves golden and rustling in the wind.
"That's the teaching building over there." Beibei pointed to a row of buildings on the right. "The white ones are for freshmen, the yellow ones are for second and third year students, the purple ones are for fourth and fifth year students, and the black ones are for sixth year students. Once you can walk out of the black teaching building, you've graduated from the Foreign Languages Department."
He then pointed to a cluster of gray buildings in the distance. "Those are the teaching buildings for the Soul Guidance Department. Our Shrek Academy separates the Martial Soul Department from the Soul Guidance Department; you applied to the Martial Soul Department, right?"
Luo Yun nodded.
"Then your classes will mainly be in the White Building," Beibei said.
As the two walked through the teaching building area, a vast lake suddenly appeared before them. The lake's surface was as calm as a mirror, reflecting the trees on the shore and the clouds in the sky. Several buildings, surrounded by greenery, could be vaguely seen in the center of the lake.
"This is Sea God Lake." Bei Bei stopped, her tone filled with respect. "It's an artificial lake built to commemorate our Tang Sect ancestor, Thousand Hands Douluo Tang San. Legend has it that our ancestor Tang San inherited the divine power of the Sea God. The Inner Court is located on the island in the middle of the lake, and all the outer court disciples consider it an honor to be able to set foot on the island."
He looked toward the island in the middle of the lake, a determined glint in his eyes.
Luo Yun also looked at the lake. Sea God Lake, inner courtyard. Two years later, Huo Yuhao would come here, would enter the Tang Sect, and would become the God of Emotions.
He looked away and continued walking forward with Beibei.
After walking along the lakeside path for about fifteen minutes, a wide rectangular square came into view. Next to the square stood a sign that read "Shrek Square".
On the other side of the square, several statues stand there.
"Those are statues of the Shrek Seven Devils," Beibei said. "The most legendary group of students in the academy."
Luo Yun gazed at the seven statues. The one in the very center, holding the Trident of Poseidon, looked into the distance—Tang San. Beside him were Xiao Wu, Dai Mubai, Oscar, Ma Hongjun, Ning Rongrong, and Zhu Zhuqing. Each statue was lifelike, as if telling the story of that legend.
Beibei then pointed to the three statues beside her. "The Golden Iron Triangle, the three elders of Shrek Academy: Dean Flander, Vice Dean Liu Erlong, and Master Yu Xiaogang. The academy's success today owes much to them."
Luo Yun glanced at it a few times, then followed Bei Bei and continued walking forward.
After crossing the square, there is a wide lawn. At the end of the lawn stands a tall building.
"That's the freshman dormitory," Beibei said. "A double room. Your room number is on your name tag; just find it yourself."
Luo Yun looked at the number plate—Second floor, 207.
"Thank you, Senior Beibei."
Beibei smiled and waved her hand. "You're welcome. By the way, the cafeteria is next to the teaching building. Just follow the crowd during mealtimes. There's not much to do these next couple of days after registration, so you can familiarize yourself with the environment."
He turned and left after he finished speaking.
Luo Yun stared at his retreating figure, standing there stunned for a moment.
Two years later, Bei Bei, a second-year student, will meet Huo Yuhao. The Heavenly Dream Ice Silkworm will sacrifice itself, and Electrolux will travel through time.
