Chapter 10: No Longer a Homeless Tribe!

"Damn it! What does the death of so many people have to do with receiving a batch of goods?!"

"Could it be that all these secondhand items came from Gundam...?"

With that in mind, Logan scanned the various outdoor products displayed inside and outside the store.

Although these items are old and show signs of use, they don't have any obvious dirt.

Seemingly noticing his hesitation, the shop owner explained:

"I've seen you on this street quite a few times. You've been homeless for over nine months, haven't you? These things are just like you think. A lot of them are from dead homeless people. There are quite a few homeless people who make a living off these things."

He then picked up a wool sweater and showed it to everyone inside and out, saying, "We cleaned and disinfected all these items immediately after receiving them to ensure they won't have lice or germs when worn."

"Moreover, our prices are lower than those of regular secondhand stores, and our place is cleaner than other places that collect clothes from homeless people."

The boss rattled off all the advantages of his shop, while Logan was still pondering.

"Now I knew the merchandise in the previous store would look like that."

"But wearing Gundam clothes isn't entirely unacceptable. Isn't my thick coat Zilean's?"

"The clothes here are both clean and cheap; I'll take a look first."

"You're right, I'll take a look at the goods first." He nodded, then went to the area where second-hand tents were placed and carefully selected them.

The tents varied in condition; some had broken poles, and some had holes. Seattle winters often bring freezing rain, so it's essential to buy a double-layered waterproof tent.

The Black shop owner slipped over again and started recommending his products: "Look at this? A waterproof and windproof double-layer tent, no cracks, no holes, 8% new! The Black guy who delivered it said it came from a white-collar worker who had just become homeless. He froze to death on the first night his tent was stolen."

Logan lifted the half-open black tent and peered inside to carefully inspect it for any defects.

"It looks really good. May that white-collar worker's soul return to the Emperor's side."

He continued checking the structure and brand before stepping back and asking, "What's the price?"

"$200!"

"Shit! Are you robbing me? This is worth more than a brand new tent! I haven't seen any used tents in other stores selling for more than $100!" Logan couldn't accept such a high price.

"Their tents either have several holes in them or always smell musty! How can they compare to mine!" the boss retorted.

That's true. Most of the secondhand tents in those stores are indeed like that, otherwise Logan wouldn't have kept browsing around here.

"That's still too expensive! $100 would be fine!"

The old-fashioned way of bargaining is to cut the price in half first, no matter what it is.

"Hey! How did you bargain like that! This tent, brand new, sells for $500! I'm only offering it for two-fifths of that price! No way! I can only go down to $180!"

"$120! I'll pay you right away if you agree!"

"$170! I'll throw in a sleeping mat for you!"

"140! I can't give you any more!"

"150! I'll throw in another waterproof sheet for you!"

"Send me some more ground stakes and rope!"

"good!"

"make a deal!"

After a long negotiation, both felt they had come out ahead.

Logan secretly gloated as he selected the high-quality secondhand freebies:

"This is a top-of-the-line mountain tent from the North Pole. My family used to have one like this; it lasted for years without breaking. A brand new one would cost nearly a thousand! And it even comes with free gifts! That saves me some money!"

Manager John looked somewhat annoyed, but he was actually laughing inside:

"What does the price matter when it's brand new? I bought it for $10, making a whopping $140 profit! As for the freebies, they wouldn't have sold for $10 anyway."

Having selected intact, undamaged sleeping mats and waterproof sheets, Logan added:

"I'll buy another synthetic fiber sleeping bag."

Then he immediately interrupted the shopkeeper who was about to discuss the price, "Give me a fair price. I don't want to waste any more words, and I don't want you to give me any more freebies."

"Alright then! I'll consider this a friendly gesture!"

The boss went to the sleeping bag section, rummaged through a pile of sleeping bags and pulled out a dark green one, then picked it out and introduced it:

"Mummy style, temperature rating -6°C, top-grade synthetic materials, other stores sell it for $40, I'll only charge you $20, how about it?"

Logan didn't answer, but after taking the sleeping bag and checking its smell, loft, zippers, and fabric integrity, he replied:

"Deal! I'll be your friend! My name is Logan."

The two shook hands, and the boss said:

"My name is John. If you ever come across any good secondhand items, feel free to send them to me. I'll definitely give you a high price."

"good!"

With the money exchanged for the goods, Logan carried the tent, a mat and a waterproof sheet, and a sleeping bag, and left the store.

These things probably weigh around 10 kilograms. If he hadn't just had his muscles upgraded by Khorne, he wouldn't have been able to carry them back by himself.

"I made $200 selling Kiran, spent $15 on laundry, and $170 on these things. I only have $15 left. Luckily, I didn't go into any stores at noon, otherwise I really wouldn't be able to afford it."

A dozen minutes later, he returned to the waterfall square.

Upon entering, it immediately attracted the attention of many homeless people.

In their eyes, a person they had never seen before, carrying a full set of camping gear, appeared here alone, no different from a fat sheep waiting to be slaughtered.

Let alone tents, many homeless people don't even have a cardboard box to sleep on at night, so they have plenty of motivation to take risks.

Some of them were watching him closely, and some had even stood up and moved closer to him.

"Oh no, they're closing in!"

Logan sensed something was wrong and began to move closer to the wall, ready to summon his monomolecular combat blade at any moment and strike anyone who dared to rush forward first.

"Logan...Logan!"

The familiar voice rang out again, but this time Logan no longer showed the same disgust as before.

Jonah and Sean emerged from the crowd and took his belongings from him. Sean whispered a reminder:

"You can't just show up here like that. They don't know you're a member of the Blood Gang like we do."

"Yeah, brother, these homeless people who have nothing might do something impulsive at any time," Jonah chimed in.

"Let's hurry, I underestimated the courage of these homeless people."

When the three of them were together, the situation was completely different. Jonah and Sean were also quite well-known among the homeless. This strange combination of two black and one white, two tall and one short made many eager homeless people hesitate, but not all of them.

They arrived at the lawn where tents were clustered together, stopping next to a yellow tent—the tent of two Black men, a bequest from one of their former neighbors. There happened to be an empty spot nearby where Logan could pitch his tent.

Despite not being asked, Jonah and Sean still volunteered to help set up the tent, and Logan thought to himself:

"Why didn't I find them so agreeable before? Having two followers like them is really a good thing."

Halfway through the work, someone finally couldn't hold back any longer.

Logan caught a glimpse out of the corner of his eye of three medium-sized Black men approaching.

They each had their hands behind their backs, their intentions clearly hostile.
