Chapter 15 Don't Let Anyone Die

Li Xiang still remembers that day.

The snowstorm that day was less severe than the previous two days, but the temperature was even lower. He stood at the warehouse entrance, where the medical staff were packaging the dark green medicine that had been made overnight and pouring it into several small bottles.

"I can go down alone." He raised his head. "You all stay up here and be prepared to receive them."

"No way," Li Xiang refused. "What if we go down together and you disappear like the captain?"

He regretted not going down last time, and he couldn't forgive himself if he didn't follow this time.

The medic looked at him and nodded slowly.

For some reason, he felt that the other person seemed different from the previous two days.

Or perhaps, he was different from usual on those two days?

Li Xiang couldn't understand it.

The three of them went down together.

Apart from the team member who went berserk, they gave him medication, but they were still unsure whether it would be effective.

They walked underground for a long time, and when they came to a fork in the road, the medic suddenly pressed his ear against the rock wall.

They pasted it over as well.

A deep, persistent tremor came from deep within the rock strata, as if someone were knocking on something.

"It might be a distress signal from the captain. Let's go check it out," the medic said.

He handed his flashlight to Li Xiang, pulled out a dagger from his waist, and bent down to crawl into the passage on the right.

Li Xiang and the teammate whose name he couldn't remember stood still.

The flashlight beam grew smaller and smaller, gradually becoming a blurry dot of light, until it finally disappeared completely.

The two waited for a long time, but neither of them was in the mood to speak.

The light spot reappeared.

Li Xiang breathed a sigh of relief and used his flashlight to provide light.

Then he saw the medic's face.

His face was expressionless, terrifyingly empty, as if something had completely hollowed him out.

He looked at Li Xiang and opened his mouth to say:

"Run!"

These were the medic's last words.

Li Xiang saw what was behind him.

My memories after that are too dark.

He really didn't want to recall it.

Li Xiang ran away.

He didn't know how he got there.

He heard a wet, whimpering sound coming from behind him, as if something huge was dragging along the rock face.

He dared not turn around.

He ran past the crossroads, through the fungal forest, and across that seemingly endless passage.

The sounds behind me grew fainter and fainter.

He burst open the hidden door to the warehouse, turned around, pushed the door shut with all his might, and then locked it completely with the key.

A crisp snapping sound rang out.

He leaned against the door, panting heavily.

Shouts came from behind me; someone was pounding on the door.

He could hear the desperate cries.

But he already had the strength to open the door.

The knocking behind the door went on for a long time.

It suddenly stopped.

A dragging sound came from behind the door.

The cold wind howled outside the window.

So cold.

He slowly slid down to the ground, took out the photo from his inner pocket, and stuck it to his chest.

So cold.

He wanted to stand up, to walk back to the hall, to find some firewood to start a fire, but his legs wouldn't obey him.

So cold.

He looked down and found his fingers were trembling.

It wasn't because of the cold, though of course it was, but the real reason was an almost uncontrollable fear.

Li Xiang tried his best to crawl with all four limbs, but no matter how hard he tried, he could not move forward even an inch.

He knelt down on the ground.

God.

He never believed in God.

But at that moment, he believed it.

Because when a person has nothing left, all that is left is God.

God.

I pray to you.

I pray to you.

I pray to you.

Don't leave me to die alone.

......

Twenty years later.

"What a long dream." The shadow gradually dissipated, revealing a deformed monster, as if two people had been pieced together in the most twisted and bizarre way.

His face was streaked with tears.

Chi Que was also stunned by what he saw.

He originally thought the medication would only alleviate the manic symptoms of the other personality in the shadowy figure, giving Li Xiang's personality time to gain the upper hand. However, he did not expect it to be so effective, directly bringing him back to his original form.

I have miraculous healing skills.

"On the third day," Chi Que asked, "what happened after you went down?"

Li Xiang did not answer immediately. He stared at the ground. Chi Que did not urge him either. After a long time, he finally raised his head.

"You can go now," he said. "You don't need to...you don't need to do anything more for us."

Almost simultaneously, a line of text appeared before Chi Que's eyes:

[New Player Dungeon - The Wrongfully Dead: Completion conditions met]

Should we leave immediately?

The pool lacks a choice.

"I cannot go," he said. "If my life's journey ends tonight, I can face death with a clear conscience."

Li Xiang laughed: "A famous quote from Sherlock Holmes."

Chi Que laughed too: "Isn't he handsome?"

"But after saying that, he perished along with Professor Moriarty," Li Xiang said seriously. "And you're not Sherlock Holmes, and what's inside is far more dangerous than Moriarty."

"Hey." Chi Que chuckled. "That's perfect. Actually, I haven't read any of the original Sherlock Holmes stories either."

Li Xiang was stunned for a moment.

Then he smiled, and with trembling hands, took out a key and handed it to Chi Que: "This is the key to the secret door."

He looked at Chi Que: "Come back alive."

Chi Que nodded slowly.

[Gambler's Bullet - Black and White]

[Rank: Iron]

[A special bullet created by forcibly transferring the characteristics of a piece of equipment through some secret technique.]

[Unpredictable: Each launch has a 10% chance of triggering a guaranteed hit and causing damage to a part; otherwise, it will never hit.]

A gambler's bullets rarely hit their mark, but even one hit is enough.

This is an item that Chi Que found in Wen Lu's ruins, and it seems to match her small pistol.

"It seems she triggered the bullet's guaranteed hit effect, thus killing the burly man." He understood the final piece of the puzzle in Wenlu's murder. After all, in this blizzard, even if one could see the burly man, hitting him would be virtually impossible.

But this bullet proves it.

Perhaps because of the game's props, these bullets can be used with any gun, including his Chekhov's gun.

—In fact, Chi Que strongly suspected that the characteristics of this bullet were very likely transferred from Chekhov's gun.

After all, Wenlu seems to have some knowledge of this dungeon, so it's not surprising that someone brought out Chekhov's Spear in the past.

But then he thought about it and suddenly understood Wen Lu a little. The bullets were unreliable to begin with, and the gun had been completely destroyed...

Yes, it's warm to the touch.

When he returned to the underground warehouse, he was somewhat surprised... well, not really that surprised.

Besides him, there is already someone else here.

It's that girl.

"I thought you had already been killed by Wen Lu." After seeing the oil paper package, Chi Que deduced that Wen Lu probably thought the girl was one of the players she wanted to kill, and took the food after killing her.

However, it wasn't that easy to die after all.
