Elegy from Another World

A status bar, glowing with a faint blue light, floated before my eyes, like a window to a new world. I read the information line by line, my heart pounding with excitement.

Name: Liscia.

It seems this was the original name of this body. A strange title belonging to a girl from another world.

Gender: Female.

My gaze fell upon this line, and my thoughts paused for a moment. The memories of my past life as a man were still vivid, yet now I found myself in a completely different body. This feeling was incredibly subtle, as if my soul had been placed in a container that was both familiar and strange. But then I thought, having experienced death and reincarnation, gender reassignment seemed like a trivial matter.

Age: 122 years old.

Seeing that number, I almost burst out laughing. One hundred and twenty-two years old! In my original world, this was an unimaginable age, old and frail, nearing its end. But now, this body was brimming with childlike vitality and elasticity, its skin smooth and firm, its movements effortless. This was immortality! The immortality I had dreamed of, the immortality I had pursued at any cost, was presented to me in such a tangible way. A surge of ecstasy washed away my slight unease about this unfamiliar environment.

Next are the standard stats: LV, HP, SP, Attack, Defense... They are displayed quietly, like the basic stats of a game character. Lacking any reference points, I cannot determine whether these stats signify strength or weakness in this world.

My gaze finally settled on the status bar at the very bottom. Two terms were flashing there:

Immortal and eternally burning.

"Immortality"—these four simple words represent the ultimate answer I've sought throughout my life. And "eternally burning"... this metaphorical description immediately made me understand what that indescribable heat and longing, surging from the depths of my body, was when I woke up. It was an instinctive desire, burning like an inextinguishable flame. It seems this is one of the prices to pay for eternal life. Immortality is not an unconditional gift; it comes with corresponding constraints. Although I can currently restrain this impulse with willpower, it persists like background noise, and I don't know how long my reason can hold out in this long tug-of-war.

I tried calling other functions—"Items," "Skills," "Maps," and even directly calling "System"—but the status bar remained hanging there alone, offering no further response. It seems that for now, this most basic information interface is the only thing I can access.

All things considered, I seem to have a fantastic start: eternal life, a vibrant young body, and a gamification system that, while incomplete, is already showing signs of success.

However, reality immediately pulled me back to the cold present. I looked around the stone chamber, which was only illuminated by moonlight, and touched the cold iron bars.

"However, it seems I'm being held captive..."

Immortality and power are meaningless if they are confined in a cage. Ecstasy gradually subsided into calm.

"Then let's figure out a way to get out of here first."

I stood up and began to carefully examine the cell that imprisoned me, searching for any possible way out. It seemed that my eternal journey would begin with a prison break.
