Elegy from Another World

Chapter 30 The Fragrance of Flowers

Leading the eighteen survivors, whose condition had clearly improved, we went directly to the Valencia City Knights' encampment. After explaining the situation to the guards standing at the entrance, several knights in gleaming armor quickly came out to meet us.

Seeing this group of ragged but still spirited survivors, the knights initially breathed a sigh of relief. But then, their gazes all focused on me—or more precisely, on the faint yet undeniable pleasant floral fragrance emanating from me, and the white petals faintly visible on my neck and arms. Their eyes were filled with confusion and curiosity.

"This... Miss Adventurer, you..." A knight who looked like a captain hesitated before speaking.

I didn't intend to elaborate, but simply reported the discovery of the bandit hideout, the clearing out of the enemy, and the rescue of the survivors, omitting details of my solo actions and specific battles. I also stated that these individuals needed proper care and further physical examinations. Seeing that I was unwilling to discuss my own condition, the knights wisely refrained from pressing for details and began to systematically take over the survivors.

As we parted, those I had saved gathered around me, their eyes filled with reluctance and gratitude, especially those whose emotional trauma had been healed. "My benefactor... will you come to see us again?" a young girl asked timidly.

"Yes, I will. Take good care of yourself." I promised with a smile, and they followed the knights away, turning back every few steps.

Next, I went straight to the church hospital. Faced with these unprecedented "symptoms," even the experienced priests and doctors were at a loss. They conducted a thorough examination and carefully inquired about the origins of the symptoms.

I told them truthfully that it appeared after a battle with a parasitic carnivorous plant. However, the doctors said that while there are many known variants of carnivorous plants, there is no record of them causing the host to bloom with these vibrant white flowers after parasitism. Usually, parasitism is a deadly draining process, not this seemingly symbiotic or even beneficial state.

They tried using advanced healing magic to expel the "foreign objects" from my body, but the little white flowers seemed to become even more vibrant as the magic flowed through me. Next, they suggested surgery to remove any areas where parasitic tissue might remain. I agreed, but the result was the same as when I tried it myself: the removed areas healed quickly, and the flowers would bloom again from their original location or other specific areas after contact with water.

"I'm sorry, Miss Liscia," an elderly priest shook his head helplessly, "this situation is beyond our comprehension. It seems to be inextricably linked to the essence of your life, impossible to separate by conventional means. From our current observations, it doesn't seem to be harming your health, and may even... offer some benefits. Perhaps, we can only accept it for now and closely observe the changes."

This conclusion was within my expectations. I thanked the doctors and left the church. Since it was harmless, I decided to let nature take its course and treat it as a… peculiar constitution.

Afterwards, I went to the Adventurers' Guild to submit my request. Although I had picked all the flowers off my body beforehand and carefully stored them in my inventory, the rich floral fragrance that had seeped into my skin and become a part of me couldn't be easily removed. As soon as I entered the guild hall, the unique scent attracted the attention of the surrounding adventurers, many of whom sniffed and curiously searched for its source.

The receptionist winked and smiled as she asked me, "Miss Liscia, what fragrance did you use today? It smells so special and makes me feel very comfortable."

I could only give an awkward smile, vaguely deal with the situation, quickly complete the handover procedures, and collect the commission.

Finally back in my hotel room, the first thing I did was take a hot shower to wash away the dust of the journey. As the warm water slid over my skin, sure enough, like bamboo shoots after a spring rain, more little white flowers bloomed all over my body, instantly transforming me into an even more "floral" figure.

"Never mind, let it be." I looked at myself in the mirror, adorned with pure white flowers and exuding fragrance, and I had already gotten used to it.

The nighttime hours still belong to studying and relaxing. I lay comfortably on the bed, casually plucked a small white flower from under my arm, and gently sucked on its sweet nectar. With my other hand, I picked up a book about ancient magical runes and immersed myself in it.

This is my unique time to rest. The fragrance of flowers fills the small room, peaceful and ethereal.
