Elegy from Another World
Chapter 255 A Fragile Alliance
With the completion of the Dreil's repair and upgrade, the exploration of the Nameless Ark has come to an end. All core samples and technical data of research value have been properly stored. The remaining massive wreckage that cannot be analyzed or utilized for the time being has been cut into regular modules by engineering robots and transported to the Dreil's expanded storage compartments, to be processed in the event of future technological breakthroughs.
The Singularity Observatory lifted its alert status for the area, its engines relit, and it warped to the edge of that miniature galaxy surrounded by shattered nebulae to continue its long-term research mission on the Scranton legacy. The mysteries of that region remain the sword of Damocles hanging over our heads.
As for me, I turned my attention to the world of J-311. Despite the unpleasantness and even bloodshed that had occurred, the crucial information about the Invisible Ark provided by Eileen and Sharingan Velvet was indeed a great help. This favor needed to be repaid. More importantly, as Sharingan Velvet had observed, in the perilous Web Path, having one more potential ally is far better than having one more permanent enemy.
"Edessis," I summoned my deputy, who had just become familiar with his new abilities, "our next step is to proactively extend some goodwill."
Edsys immediately understood what I meant: "You mean, helping J-311 rebuild the world?"
"That's right." I nodded. "Send out our engineering robot force, along with ample building materials and energy. It's not charity, it's cooperation. Helping them is also putting into practice our principle of 'assisting those in need within our capabilities.'"
"Understood!" Edsey's eyes lit up; this was undoubtedly a good thing that could ease tensions and even forge a future. She immediately began to efficiently coordinate resources and formulate an aid plan.
Soon, a sizable engineering fleet from the Dresden arrived over the world of J-311. This time, we didn't land rashly, but instead first had a frank communication with Eileen and Sharingan Velvet through the communication channel.
As the massive engineering robots and cargo pods laden with supplies landed smoothly on the scorched earth, the surviving angels and demons cautiously peeked out from their hiding places, their eyes filled with vigilance, curiosity, and a hint of disbelief.
The project began. Instead of blindly following a uniform template, we fully respected the different cultures and needs of angels and demons.
On a relatively flat plateau, the temple built for the angels began to rise. Engineering robots used high-strength alloys and special crystals they had brought to construct its magnificent framework. The temple's overall design was streamlined, pursuing purity and sublimation, and making extensive use of soft white and gold tones. A vast space was reserved in the center of the temple to gather holy light energy; the dome was designed with complex optical lenses that could gather and purify the world's faint celestial light, forming a warm pillar of light, symbolizing the reshaping of hope and order. On the walls, robots carved runes symbolizing protection, healing, and resilience, according to ancient patterns provided by the angels.
In another, rugged region near the rift valley, the demons built their lair. Carved into natural rock walls, the lair is rugged, menacing, and exudes power. The architecture extensively uses dark-toned metal and recycled rock, its intricate structure resembling a giant beehive or fortress. Inside, a massive energy furnace efficiently converts various resources, including chaotic energies like hellfire; it also contains hatching pools, arenas, and various utilitarian workshops to meet the demons' needs for power enhancement, weapon forging, and reproduction. The surfaces are engraved with fiery emblems symbolizing power, conquest, and chaos.
Throughout the construction process, the engineering team of the Derek had numerous exchanges with the craftsmen of Angel and Demon, constantly adjusting details to better suit their actual usage habits. Eileen and Sharingan Velvet, initially skeptical, later actively cooperated, their attitudes undergoing a significant change. They saw our sincerity and genuinely felt the immense help these facilities would provide for their future survival and development.
When the first pure pillar of light rose in the temple, and when the first dark flame ignited in the furnace of the demon's lair, the long-awaited light of rebirth finally appeared on the wasteland of the J-311 world.
After the construction was completed, Edseys and I visited the site in person. Standing between the radiance of the temple and the shadows of the demon's lair, I held my final formal meeting with Eileen and Sharingan Velvet.
"Thank you... for your selfless assistance." A complex light flickered in Eile's single eye, a mixture of gratitude and relief. "This has brought us... true hope."
The Sharingan's velvet eye ring slowly rotated: [Goodwill received. The ice of hatred may gradually melt.]
I smiled and replied, "This is the compensation we promised, and also our expectation for the future. The internet is vast and fraught with danger, making independent survival increasingly difficult. We, the Dreil, are willing to establish a friendly and mutually supportive alliance with J-311 World—while maintaining our independence, sharing resources and supporting each other in the face of major threats that we cannot handle alone."
Eh, and Sharingan Velvet exchanged a glance, and after a moment of silence, nodded solemnly.
"We agree," said Ele on behalf of both sides. "May this alliance lead us to a better future."
There was no grand ceremony, only a simple confirmation of intent and exchange of data. An alliance based on practical interests, tested and proven by friction, was thus formed. It may not be as strong as blood ties, but in the turbulent world of the internet, it is invaluable.
The engineering fleet of the Dreil slowly ascended, departing from this land beginning to revive. Looking back, the radiance of the temple and the flames of the demon's lair, like twin stars in the night, though their lights differed, together illuminated the future of the J-311 world. We sowed goodwill, reaped potential allies, and found yet another harbor for the Dreil to temporarily dock and resupply in the vast network.
