Chapter 54 What type of forging world is this again?

Although only Dane remained of the technological heretics in the secret chamber, Rhodes noticed that Casal and the other mechanical priests beside him were not relaxed at all; on the contrary, they were even more tense than before.

Casal's right hand was already gripping the gamma pistol at his waist, holding the handle tightly, while the guards on his left tacitly lowered their bodies, resting their gun-wielding arms on the back edge of an overturned lab table, keeping their guns locked on Dane's position.

Almost every high-ranking mechanical priest has an astonishing number of enhancement implants inside their body. The auxiliary systems that maintain daily operations are already complex enough, not to mention the hardware specifically designed for combat.

Some more violent cyborgs will equip themselves with various weapon-level enhancement systems.

For example, a weapon support made of an articulated cable network, such as a reinforced implant on the arm, can independently support heavy weapons and be aimed and fired with one hand.

Or perhaps the strength is so great that it can lift the servo arm on one side of the Rhino troop carrier with one hand, and a single punch is enough to smash a human-shaped dent into the ceramic steel armor plate.

Technologically unorthodox scholars, in addition to these conventional implants, often install more forbidden and dangerous components on themselves.

For example, the Saxon light wave generator, a forbidden device, can generate a special energy field that continuously maintains the vitality of the physical tissues of the technological heretic scholar, enabling him to maintain his combat effectiveness even after suffering serious injuries.

Even more disturbing is that this energy field also emits a kind of interference wave called "Nightmare Field". Any creature within its range will be enveloped by an inexplicable sense of fear, and will experience symptoms such as rapid heartbeat, stiff limbs, and impaired judgment. The effect is similar to psionic fear, but it has nothing to do with the warp. It is purely a physical neural interference, which also means that conventional anti-phantom methods are completely ineffective against it.

Dane is clearly the type of warlike mechanical priest.

He retreated to the SCV, which was secured by the repulsive device, the muzzle of the plasma gun shifting back and forth between Casal and Rhodes, and then his left eye twitched.

That's not an ordinary mechanical prosthetic eye.

In the Mechanicus modification system, the "Evil Eye" is a fairly common but extremely threatening eye implant. The installer sacrifices some visual function to transform the space inside the eye socket into a housing for a miniature laser weapon system. If necessary, a laser beam capable of melting through light armor can be fired from the pupil.

But Dane's malevolent eye had clearly undergone some kind of forbidden modification that far exceeded the standard.

A blinding white light burst forth from his left eye socket. It wasn't the short pulse typical of an evil eye, but a high-energy cutting beam that lasted for nearly two seconds. The laser swept across at an almost horizontal angle, so fast that there wasn't even time to issue any warning.

The three guards standing in the front row were the first to be hit. The laser sliced across the waist of the first guard. The inner bulletproof fiber, flesh and bone were indistinguishable in front of this beam of light. The metal edge at the cut was instantly heated to a crimson red. Before the blood on the cut surface could even gush out, it was evaporated into a cloud of blood mist by the high temperature. The second and third guards fell down in quick succession, their bodies cut in half. Their upper bodies, along with their still struggling arms, slid forward and crashed to the floor with a dull thud.

After severing three members of the Guardians of the Church, the laser continued its momentum, leaving a deep cut on the inner wall of the furnace behind it. The cut was still glowing red at the edges, and molten metal slowly dripped down the cut, making a sizzling sound as it fell to the floor.

Dane himself paid the price for that blow.

The overloaded energy burned the area around his left eye socket to a charred black, with several exposed cables sparking. The surface of the metal implant deep in his eye socket showed obvious signs of melting and deformation. A drop of silver liquid metal was slowly sliding down his cheekbone, leaving a bright silver trail on the charred skin.

But he immediately turned his head and aimed at Casal, clearly not intending to stop.

"Scatter! Everyone take cover!" Rhodes grabbed the edge of a Marauder's armor next to him and pulled himself behind the moving steel wall. The Marauder opened fire on the enemy, but unfortunately, it was stopped by the force field generated by some forbidden implant on the enemy.

The second laser beam shot out from Dann's half-melted left eye. This time, the beam swept across at a greater angle, slicing an analytical instrument in the center of the chamber in two. Sparks and fragments flew everywhere from the cut.

Casal led the remaining Guardians of the Faith to tumble behind a pile of collapsed equipment wreckage. A laser beam grazed his servo skull, scorching a black char on the surface of the floating mechanical head.

The third and fourth strikes followed as Dann relentlessly unleashed the energy from his Evil Eyes, each strike leaving new melting marks on the inner wall of the abandoned furnace. The walls of the entire chamber were now covered with crisscrossing, scorching scars, and molten metal flowed into thin streams that spread across the floor. The air was filled with a pungent metallic vapor and the smell of burning.

The charred area around Dane's evil eye was rapidly expanding, and the molten metal implants were beginning to affect deeper tissues. Half of his face had become a grotesque mess of twisted metal and charred flesh, but his attack frequency was increasing instead of decreasing. He probably intended to take everyone in this secret room away before his head was completely melted through by his own weapon.

Rhodes crouched in the shadow of the Marauder's armor, his back pressed against the warm aluminum alloy plate, sweat trickling down his forehead and nose. His mind raced. The Marauder's firepower was being held back by the personal shields on the enemy's bodies, the Cleric's troops were pinned behind cover and unable to raise their heads, and the situation on Casal's side wasn't much better. This madman was clearly planning to take everyone down with him.

Are we just supposed to wait for this guy to get burned while playing with fire?

As another laser beam swept past half a meter above his head, leaving a burn mark on the shoulder armor of the raider behind him, Rhodes suddenly heard a sound.

It wasn't the sound of a laser cutting metal, nor the roar of a grenade launcher firing, but a low, almost imperceptible vibration coming from below.

It was as if some enormous machine was slowly starting up, gears meshing, drive shafts rotating, steam valves opening, and the entire floor of the abandoned furnace trembling slightly.

Rhodes' pupils contracted slightly.

He vaguely remembered that when Casal took him on a tour of the casting complex, he mentioned the classification of Mordax, saying that this planet was not an ordinary casting world, but a reburning casting world.

A rekindled forged world means that it was once invaded by heretics, who controlled the planet for a considerable period of time.
