Chapter 53 Psionic Access to Electronic Communicators, isn't that amazing?
Dan couldn't understand it.
In a mere 0.3 seconds, his brain's logic processor reviewed every operational step, every signal detection, and every power verification of the shielding module over the past 48 hours.
All results were normal, with no trace of data leakage and no electromagnetic signals penetrating the shielding blocks embedded in the furnace walls. He even conducted a full-band scan before taking action to confirm that there were no listening nodes of the Cult of Mechanics within a two-kilometer radius, and that there were no psionic devices on the SCV.
His plan was theoretically perfect, but theory shattered in the face of reality.
This is certainly not his fault. After all, in the entire cognitive system of the Cult of Mechanism, psionic communication and electronic signal shielding are two completely unrelated fields. Dann's shielding device can intercept electromagnetic waves, data pulses and sub-electronic communications of known frequency bands, but for a consciousness connection directly established at the psionic level, these sophisticated electronic devices are no different from a paper wall.
The system-granted Rhodes psionic link directly connected to the communicator in the SCV cockpit. After the operator was immobilized, he immediately reported his location and situation through this link, even describing the details of the surrounding environment clearly.
Dane's signal jammer had no effect on him. He had no idea that his carefully arranged secret room was no different from transparent glass in the face of this combination of psionic energy and receiver.
He was just unlucky to have been defeated by Rhodes.
Casal stepped over the shattered wreckage of the airtight door, his heavy mechanical boots clanging on the metal floor. He didn't immediately order to fire, but walked straight up to Dane, the two less than three meters apart.
The smoke and dust in the sealed room had not completely dissipated, and gray dust floated slowly between the two men, blown away by the heat vents from the ventilation grilles under Casal's red robe.
"Dan," Casal called out the other's name, his tone almost mechanically steady, but the five metal knuckles of his right hand were slowly tightening and loosening one by one, the faint sound of metal rubbing against metal particularly clear in the silence. "You have violated the teachings of Omnisiah. You treated an STC product with blasphemous methods, attempting to reverse engineer it in a manner unauthorized by ritual, while simultaneously kidnapping an operator under the command of a Vandreich merchant ronin."
He paused, his servo skull on his shoulder hanging motionless, aimed at Dane's face.
"According to the Mechanicus Trial Rules, your implants will be removed one by one, including your logic processor, mechanical prosthetics, optical prosthetics, and every data cable connected to your nervous system. After all the implants are removed, the remaining flesh will be sent to the Servant Modification Workshop."
A short electrical noise came from beneath Dane's alloy panel. It wasn't fear, but rather a kind of decision made after being driven to a dead end. He made a concealed gesture with his left hand behind his back.
The next second, the tech-adventurers in the secret room moved simultaneously. Two of them, controlling the fighter servants beside them, raised the plasma cannons on their arms, while the other three grabbed the power hammers on the worktables and aimed their weapons at the friars pouring in through the door.
Dane grabbed the plasma gun behind him, holding the half-meter-long metal cannon in his hand. He took two steps back, leaning against the SCV that was fixed in place by the repulsive force device.
"Fire."
Two plasma beams shot out from the short tubes on the fighter's boomerangs, the scorching blue-white beams tearing through the air as they hurtled towards the Guardians at the entrance. Casal dodged to the side, one beam grazing his shoulder armor and blasting a charred crater in the wall behind him, emitting white smoke.
The defenders immediately returned fire, and the barrage of gamma pistol bullets crisscrossed the secret chamber, creating a network of fire, with spent metal cartridges clattering and falling to the floor.
At the same time, the heavily armored infantrymen standing beside Rhodes, each more than two people tall, also joined the battle.
These are the Marauders in StarCraft. Unlike the more mobile Space Marine Marauder squads in Warhammer 40k, they are more like heavy infantry and anti-armor support units.
When Marine Corps light weapons are ineffective against heavily armored targets, Terran commanders deploy these mobile fortresses to fill the firepower gaps.
Each raider operator is encased in heavy sail-shaped aluminum alloy armor, with high-density kinetic energy foam filling the gaps between the armor plates. This special material absorbs and disperses most of the kinetic energy when subjected to explosive impacts, ensuring that the operator can continue fighting even after surviving an attack powerful enough to overturn a light vehicle.
Their core firepower consists of a set of K12 Scraper quadruple grenade launchers mounted below each wrist. These launchers use specially designed Sharp-Eyed armor-piercing grenades with internal miniature shaped charge warheads. Upon impact, they can tear through thick armor plates with a directional explosion, making them extremely lethal to buildings and ground armored units. These fighter servants, who rely on defense and firepower for combat, are the perfect targets.
In addition, the Marauders are equipped with a special type of ammunition called "Concussion Grenade". When this warhead explodes, it can create a brief micro-gravitational disturbance field, which is similar to the spacetime distortion produced by the Protoss warp technology. Targets affected by the blast will lose most of their mobility within seconds and their movement speed will drop sharply.
When a fighter servant piloted by a technological outcast raises its forearm, equipped with a plasma tube, and aims it at the nearest Marauder, the Marauder's response is simple and brutal.
With a few thuds, four Sharp One armor-piercing grenades were launched almost simultaneously from the wrist launcher, accurately hitting the front of the fighter jet's torso in less than a fraction of a second.
The shaped charge detonated the instant it came into contact with the high-hardness alloy shell of the machine gun. The shock wave from the directional blast tore the armor plate, which was several centimeters thick, apart in the middle like tearing paper, scattering fragments of alloy pieces and debris of internal parts everywhere.
The fighter jet's upper body was severed at the waist, crashing to the ground along with the still-sparking plasma tube. It twitched twice before coming to a complete stop.
At the same time, another Marauder launched a concussion grenade. The warhead exploded two meters from the feet of the three armed technocrats, and a gravitational wave that was almost invisible to the naked eye rapidly spread out from the point of explosion, covering the entire area.
The movements of the three technocrats instantly became as if they were soaked in glue, and the speed at which they swung their power hammers slowed down under the influence of the force field. One of the mechanical priests even lost his balance due to the sudden gravitational disturbance and stumbled and fell to the ground.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, the friars rushed forward and subdued several struggling technocrats at close range, locking their mechanical prosthetics with magnetic handcuffs.
The remaining second fighter jet attempted to ram the nearest Marauder with its own weight, but the Marauder withstood the impact without moving an inch. Only a few shallow scratches were left on the surface of the aluminum alloy armor, as the kinetic energy foam hidden inside the armor completely absorbed the impact.
The raider then raised its right arm and, at almost face-to-face distance, fired four armor-piercing grenades into the servant's chest cavity. Explosions erupted from the servant's body, turning the steel hull into a pile of black-smoking scrap metal.
It seems that only this high-ranking mechanical priest remains.
