Chapter 39 Eldar of the Ark of Ekas
Rhodes's gaze swept over the fallen Eldar warriors' corpses on the ground. The colors of the tattered Eldar armor were still very clear in the sunlight, with a deep turquoise base and mysterious and noble purple accents. That was the iconic paint scheme of the Arkworld of Ai-Kes.
Fortunately, he had read quite a bit of the lore beforehand, and Rhodes once again thanked himself for his behavior of devouring all the official Warhammer lore before his transmigration.
Unlike other Ark worlds, which are conservative and secluded, the Eldar, as the last group of people to escape their crumbling empire, witnessed the darkness and corruption of their own empire. In order to completely eradicate the threat of the Dark Prince Slaanesh, they have been on an eternal expedition and are willing to pay any price.
This extreme thirst for revenge endowed them with a pragmatism rarely seen among the Eldar.
In order to combat Chaos, especially the power of Slaanesh, the Arkworld of Ae-Kais will form a temporary alliance with the human empire, and even with those fallen dark Eldar relatives. They are willing to temporarily set aside their Eldar pride as long as it can strike a great enemy.
It was based on this understanding that Rod dared to gamble on the other party's attitude at that critical moment of life and death.
"It seems I wasn't mistaken; you are from A.K.S." Rhodes spoke slowly, his tone carrying a hint of certainty. "To avenge our great enemy, you even dared to step into the territory of the Human Empire."
The Eldar war shaman put away his aggressive aura. Although he still gripped the Spear of Chant tightly, he no longer possessed the arrogance he had shown before. He slowly turned around and quietly looked at his fallen brethren on the ground.
"Our prophet glimpsed a shadow in the threads of fate. Prophecy revealed that this planet is about to become yet another passage for a great enemy to invade."
He paused, as if recalling that arduous journey, "In order to stop all of this, and to prevent more souls from falling into the mouth of that thirsty monster, our warship crossed the ancient path, arrived at a nearby star system, and then passed through the Imperial Navy's blockade to land on this planet."
"So, these Slaanesh succubi are the targets you've been looking for?"
"These are just appearances."
The Spirit Race War Witch snorted coldly, his tone filled with disgust.
"We followed the fluctuations of warp energy, venturing deeper into this cursed canyon. Here, the veil of reality has become extremely thin, and the minions of our formidable foe surge forth from the shadows like a tide."
His voice lowered as he said this.
"We have been fighting for days and nights. My comrades... they are the best warriors, but they too have their limits in the face of endless demons. To cover my advance, they fell one by one, their souls returning to the Soul Stone, waiting for me to bring them back to the Infinite Path."
Looking at the several Eldar corpses lying in pools of blood, Rhodes couldn't help but feel a pang of sorrow.
"I am Rhodes, the master of this planet, a wandering merchant of the Vandrick dynasty."
Rhodes extended his hand, though he knew the other party most likely wouldn't shake it. "Since we're going to cooperate, we should at least know how to address each other."
The Eldar war shaman hesitated for a moment, but ultimately did not shake hands. He simply nodded slightly and announced his name: "Kairlos, war shaman of the Ark of Ai-Kes."
"Kaellos..." Rhodes murmured the name, then his gaze fell on the Spear of Song in the other's hand, a hint of curiosity flashing in his eyes.
"As far as I know, the most famous people in the Ark of Ai-Kes are the Bone Singers, but you have chosen the path that intertwines the way of the warrior and the way of the prophet."
Kelros seemed even more astonished by Rhodes's erudition, and he gently stroked the spear in his hand, explaining:
"You're right, Savage Monkey. In our Ark world, the Bone Singers are indeed highly respected; they are the repairers and builders of the Ark. But that doesn't mean we lack warriors."
"I once walked the path of a warrior, a ferocious avenger who learned how to reap lives with blades and shrapnel. Now, I walk the path of a prophet, combining my former combat skills with psionic energy to become the War Wizard I am today."
Kelros's voice carried a hint of pride, "For us, no matter which path we take, there is only one ultimate goal—to completely annihilate our great enemy."
Rhodes nodded in understanding. Every Eldar tries different paths in their long lives to avoid being consumed by some extreme emotion and ultimately becoming a plaything of Slaanesh.
"So, Kelros, have you found the source of these demons?" Rhodes steered the conversation back on track, his expression turning serious. "Since you say this is just the surface, where is their true source?"
Kelrod turned around, pointing his Spear of Song at the depths of the valley, at the area shrouded in vegetation.
"Right there."
His voice became extremely solemn. "Hidden on this planet is an abandoned entrance to the Web, which our ancestors sealed tens of thousands of years ago. It should have remained sealed, but for some reason, the seal has begun to loosen."
"Network entrance?"
Oh wow.
The network was originally a cosmic highway created by the Ancient Saints. As for the current damaged network...
Rhodes instinctively shuddered. One of the main reasons the old man Huang sat on Terra's sacred toilet was that he needed to generate a mental shield at any time to block the demons that tried to enter the artificial network.
Back then, Magnus made a nuclear-powered phone call that directly bankrupted the Human Empire's Network Project and almost turned Terra into a second Eye of Terror. He doesn't want to build a Silver Toilet on his own planet and sit on it himself.
"Those servants of the Prince of Pleasure invaded reality from the warp through the abandoned network tunnels on this planet."
Kellows continued,
"The current breach in the seal is still small, only allowing these lowly Slaanesh sirens to pass through. But if the seal isn't repaired quickly, or the entrance isn't completely destroyed, this planet will soon be overwhelmed by the enemy's army, and the Keepers of the Secrets may even descend. At that time, not only your territory, but this entire star system will fall into the clutches of the Prince of Pleasure."
"The situation seems worse than I thought."
Rhodes frowned, glancing at the Marines and the Zerg swarm behind him. No wonder Father Sauron had led the state priests to inspect the planet and confirmed there were no signs of Chaos corruption, yet warp demons reappeared a few days later.
The Chaos Can I encountered back then probably also came to Esperan by chance through the Internet.
"With our current strength, it will probably be difficult to break in; there must be even more demons gathered there."
Kelros raised his head and looked at the distant horizon. "Before this, I had already contacted the other squads. Although my squad was destroyed, other Ai-Kes warriors are gathering here from different directions."
"They'll be there soon. Then we'll combine all our forces and launch a final assault on that network portal."
Kelros turned his head, his glowing eyes fixed on Rhodes. "But before that, you wild monkey, I need your help to clear the demons on the periphery and remove obstacles for my people. Since you've chosen to cooperate, let me see just how much you and your strange allies really amount to."
"Don't worry, Kel'Thuzad, if you hadn't told me earlier that there were reinforcements, I wouldn't have had to be so careful with my Zerglings."
Upon hearing this, Rhodes smiled. He glanced back at the Marines who were ready to go and the swarm of insects that were stirring under Leonora's command, and then reconnected his consciousness to the hive's psionic network.
"Come here, springtail."
The springtails that had been guarding the outside gathered around, their carapaces dissolving again to form new cocoons that enveloped their bodies.
