Shipping goods from the game to the World of Warhammer
Chapter 31 You're the one in trouble, not me
Unexpected, yet reasonable.
Most of the psionicists sent aboard the Empire's Black Ships would become nourishment for the Emperor's life-sustaining purposes or power the Star Torch due to unstable power or susceptibility to corruption, until they died of exhaustion. Only a small number could receive training at the Star Language Court.
Only those with high psychic power and strong self-control are sent to the Psionic Academy to receive training and learn how to use their psychic power to serve the Empire, thus repaying their original debt of being born connected to the Warp. Only those who survive the training can become legal psychics, but the probability is about the same as someone born into an upper-class family in the Hive.
But since this was the path he chose, Rod decided to respect his decision.
Given this kid's personality and willpower, he might actually survive the Empire's psionic training.
"That's settled then. After I've finished dealing with things here, I'll report your situation to the Empire and then take Anya away."
Rhodes nodded, and the system in his mind finally emitted the long-awaited mission completion notification sound.
[Mission: Helping the boy has been fully completed]
[Reward: 50000 General Energy]
How many?
Rhodes had thought he might earn a few thousand dollars to replenish his nearly depleted system balance, but he didn't expect this mission to give him 50000 universal energy directly.
No, I can't laugh now, otherwise I might end up being seen as a somewhat neurotic wandering merchant in other people's eyes.
After taking a deep breath, Rod realized that the hardest thing for a person to control their emotions is to stop themselves from laughing out loud.
After sending Aria with Desmond and a squad of Marines back to the lower level to find Anya, Rhodes led the remaining Marines and Reapers out of the second-floor entrance of the warehouse. The matters in the lower level were settled; now it was time to settle old scores.
As soon as Rhodes stepped out of the warehouse entrance, he was confronted by a team of law enforcement officers who had rushed down to the front. Seeing the suddenly appearing, fully armed team, the large group of law enforcement officers immediately drew their weapons, while the Marines and Reapers were fearless and raised their guns to confront each other.
"Perfect timing." Rhodes flashed the communicator in his hand. "I happen to have some security issues regarding Blackwing Harbor that I'd like to discuss with your dock manager."
The atmosphere of the talks was not friendly, because the two sides were not communicating in the dock manager's office, but in the lower level of the dock.
The Marines behind Rhodes gripped their rifles tightly, while the law enforcement team behind Superintendent Axel was also on high alert.
"What are you doing, Rhodes, the merchant ronin of the Vandrick dynasty? I don't recall Blackwing Harbor receiving permission for these people to enter, do I?"
General Axel was the first to make a move. Without the permission of the Ministry of Military Affairs, bringing such a fully armed force into the Imperial spaceport was a challenge to the Imperial authority, something that even traveling merchants and wanderers could not do.
He had not received any reports about this group, and the Vandrick family leader in front of him had secretly sent these soldiers into Blackwing Harbor.
If he were to report this to the Imperial Navy stationed there or the nearby Star Guardians, Rhodes would immediately be suspected of being at risk of rebellion, and at that point, his identity as a wandering merchant would be of no use.
However, Axel did not intend to do so. If the other party had deceived the Imperial Navy on the outside, wouldn't that mean that only he had discovered this matter?
He leaned closer, his eyes narrowing beneath his graying temples, and made his request in a voice only he and Rhodes could hear:
"In that case, if you had agreed to use that shipment to support the development of the Imperial Spaceport and to have Esperan supply food to Blackwing Harbor, this should never have happened."
As the dock manager of Blackwing Harbor, he believed that the wandering merchant in front of him would be able to grasp the pros and cons.
"Hmph!" Rhodes sneered. It was astonishing that Steward Axel dared to make such a request. It seemed he truly had no idea what kind of mess his docks had almost made.
"You're quite the joker. But before we discuss our trade cooperation, why don't you send someone you trust to take a look at the warehouse behind me?"
Seeing that Rhodes showed no sign of panic and even gestured for him to go to the warehouse in the back, it was now Steward Axel's turn to be unsure.
After hesitating for a moment, he still summoned his most trusted deputy to check the situation in the warehouse.
When his deputy came out of the warehouse and whispered something in his ear, Steward Axel's face changed drastically.
"Yes, once this gets out, I'll definitely be in a lot of trouble." Rhodes fiddled with the communicator in his hand, his smile intriguing.
"You know, they've already caused quite a bit of trouble at the very bottom of your dock, and they even brought some evil minions with them. Guess who dealt with them?"
Supervisor Axel's face turned ashen, his legs buckled, and he nearly knelt down.
As the dock manager, failing to notice the organized Chaos followers gathering at the bottom of his space dock was a major oversight.
Now, if what the other party said is true, and that the group of Chaos believers has summoned warp demons in the lower levels of the port, then his dereliction of duty is enormous.
Previously, simple trade corruption issues might not have attracted the attention of the Imperial Central Legal Department and the Inquisition, but when it comes to chaos and heresy, these two departments arrive faster than lightning.
If this matter were to be reported to the imperial authorities and investigated by the court, he would face execution.
Rhodes's unauthorized entry of soldiers into the spaceport will, in effect, offset his wrongdoing. At most, he will be warned by the Inquisition and have some of his privileges temporarily restricted by the Empire. After all, Chaos is the Empire's number one enemy.
Impossible. I have never found any signs of Chaos infiltration in any of the reports. How come heretics have suddenly appeared today and even summoned demons from the warp?
But he dared not gamble. With that enormous mutated corpse in the warehouse, if the inquisitors came here with their retinues to investigate, they would surely see through whether these heretics had summoned demons.
Looking at the speechless Steward Axel, Rhodes imitated his tone and added:
"Of course, if you were willing to continue with our original trade agreement, sell those goods, and assist Esperan's goods tax issues during your future term, this should never have happened."
The dock manager does not have the authority to completely exempt goods from taxes at the Imperial docks, but he can still provide many conveniences and manipulate pricing.
The cunning and shrewd manager in front of me must have been quite shrewd in his daily life; he even tried to take 30% of my goods when we first met.
Having finally caught this old fox by the tail, Rod would be doing a disservice to his General Energy expenses if he didn't squeeze some profits out of him, not to mention that he could also help open up avenues for Esperan's crop trade.
Axel clenched his fist, and after a long while, he loosened his grip. His previously domineering demeanor instantly aged him by more than ten years.
"Blackwing Harbor will provide as much assistance as possible to the Vandreich dynasty's trade and goods."
