Chapter 24 The Demon-Fearing Party in the Lower District
When his communicator rang, Rhodes and Aria were separately investigating the loading and unloading area of the space dock.
Rhodes actually wanted to see if there was any area similar to a black market or any suspicious items in this place, so that he could find something to use against Steward Axel.
Unfortunately, as a legitimate space port directly under the Empire, all alien products are strictly prohibited here, unlike private ports under the jurisdiction of other traveling merchants and ronin, where many alien trade items can often be found.
"What? Changed your mind?" Rhodes turned on the communicator, which showed that the message came from the communicator he had given to Desmond.
However, there was no response from the other end of the communicator, and the background noise included occasional screams of humans.
"Oh no, something's happened." Rhodes slapped his forehead, feeling a sense of impending doom.
"What happened?" Aliya, who had just returned from investigating the west side of the dock's loading and unloading area, couldn't help but ask when she saw his troubled expression.
"The stubborn time bomb we encountered earlier sounds like it's about to explode."
Without delay, Rhodes grabbed Aliya and ran towards the sewage treatment area at the bottom of the dock.
When they arrived at the ground floor, several law enforcement officers were preparing to block off the entrance to the ground floor area.
"Halt! We've lost contact with the sewage treatment area below; there must be a riot. No one is allowed to enter!"
Rhodes glanced at them; these law enforcement officers looked somewhat familiar.
Isn't this the same law enforcement officer who was chasing that stubborn brat the other day?
"Are you ordering me around?" Rhodes instantly switched into acting mode, raising his chin and looking at the law enforcement officer in front of him with disdain.
Having followed Aliya for so many days, he has completely learned what kind of aura to project when dealing with different kinds of people.
The other person glanced at Rhodes briefly and quickly recognized Rhodes' face from their memory.
The person in charge of blocking the entrance immediately changed his posture, standing at attention and looking at Rhodes.
"Sir! We've completely lost contact with the law enforcement officers below. For your safety..."
"Shut up. Do you think those bugs can offend me just because of what they have?"
Rhodes continued to pressure the law enforcement officers in front of him:
"I'm here to help your manager solve his problem, or do you think there's something wrong with me too?"
"No! No! I was blind! Please come in!"
The law enforcement officers stepped aside to clear the way, and Rhodes, not wanting to waste any time, walked down the long metal ladder.
"You learn so quickly, but do you really want to continue taking risks?" Aliya no longer intended to stop Rhodes' various adventurous actions. Ever since Rhodes solved Esperan's anti-aircraft gun problem by himself last time, she decided that she would trust the wandering merchant's decisions from now on.
"Of course, Aliya, the opportunities of a wandering merchant are always accompanied by dangers." Rhodes continued down the stairs without pausing.
"Just kidding," Rhodes added to himself. Actually, he really wanted to go straight back to the flagship and run away in a flash. It was just a batch of parsnip of silver and gold quality. At worst, he could take a longer route and find another planet or space port to take over the cargo later.
But Rhodes had a nagging feeling that if he returned to the Christina now, the worst-case scenario would happen, and he wouldn't be able to leave.
Now that he's in the Warhammer world, Rhodes still decided to trust his intuition, since it had helped him avoid a lot of bad luck back on Earth.
The only thing he couldn't avoid was the object thrown from a high-rise building that day, which allowed him to travel through time.
When Rhodes and his group arrived at the sewage treatment area at the bottom, which was also the pipe area where the poor gathered, they also saw that hellish scene.
Dozens of pink ghouls are making fun of the remaining survivors.
"Sparkling! Bright!"
A demon shoved a fireball into the mouth of a female worker, whose body then began to crystallize from the bottom up, eventually turning into a screaming crystal statue.
The guards beside Rhodes immediately took out their guns, aimed them at the Fear Demon, and fired.
With a bang, a bullet pierced the eye of the fear demon and exploded inside its body, turning it into minced meat from the inside out.
"Hehehehehe!" Unexpectedly, the Fear Demon, which had been blown to pieces, could still make a sound. In its last satisfied laugh, the Fear Demon's shattered body returned to a flowing energy state, looking like a blob of paint floating in the air.
These streams of light converged into a ball, spinning continuously, their colors constantly changing. Eventually, the entire ball of light split in two, and its color turned into a vibrant blue.
"Gone, all the toys are gone, all of them, all because of you."
"Sadness, chop it up, chop it up!"
Two smaller blue ghouls appeared before Rhodes. One ghoul held a dagger, while the other bared its fangs. Together, they staggered toward the crew member who had just fired the shot.
These blue demons' features were twisted together, their furrowed brows filled with resentment, as if they wanted to tear these humans, who had stolen their beautiful day, apart from the inside out.
The crew continued firing, and the red dot of the laser rifle once again aimed at the foreheads of the two fearsome demons. Two white energy beams pierced through their bodies one after the other, vaporizing most of their bodies into air.
The blue ferocious demons swayed and fell to the ground, but their bodies melted back into churning energy clusters, which then split into four smaller, brighter sulfur ferocious demons whose bodies burned like yellow flames.
"Is this never going to end?!"
The crew member holding the laser rifle couldn't help but curse, but he still raised his rifle and started spraying bullets at the yellow fear monsters.
The explosive projectiles and energy beams accurately struck the two sulfur freaks. This time, the freaks did not split apart, but instead turned into a ball of energy and completely disappeared into the void. However, the remaining two sulfur freaks still leaped high into the air and pounced down.
"No, our firepower is simply insufficient! We must retreat!" Aliya drew her pistol and quickly fired two shots ahead, accurately shooting down the two hideous monsters. "Why are there so many demons in this place?!"
However, the situation remains far from optimistic:
There were only four of them. If they wanted to completely kill a Pink Fear Demon and the other Fear Demons that it split off from, each of them would need to hit the target at least twice with precise shots. But right now, in the pipe area, there were at least twenty Pink Fear Demons that could be seen.
Upon hearing the gunshots from their side, these creations of the Lord of Change, with their twisted sense of humor, all abandoned their entertainment and turned to charge at them.
Demons can charge forward without regard for the cost, but for humans, the margin for error is practically only once.
If struck by the warp magic or claws and fangs of the Fearful Demon, one's flesh and blood will only be twisted and mutated.
"It's too late!" the bolt carrier crew member in charge of suppressing fire shouted in despair. The demons had already surrounded them, their fingertips beginning to emit ever-changing colored light. In a few more seconds, they would be turned into a pile of rotten flesh on the ground, or fall into an even more miserable state.
"Fire."
Without a trace of emotion, a terrifyingly calm command came from behind them. Aliya and the two crew members could only raise their weapons and aim them at the Pink Fear Demons, who outnumbered them several times over.
But the order wasn't given to them.
