Erii: A Journey Through the Heavens Begins with Frilian

Chapter 88: The Execution Ground Rescue!

Chapter 88: The Execution Ground Rescue!

Five vehicles drove onto the lifting platform. As the height increased, the earth was left beneath their feet, and the dazzling morning sun made the dark iron color shine with golden light.

"Wow~ It's so high!" Xia Dou jumped out of the car, looked around at the vast sky, and couldn't help but cheer excitedly.

"What are you planning to do?" Bai Yuekui leaned against the railing, tilting his head back to stare directly at the dawn.

"It depends on their attitude," Erii said calmly.

Bai Yuekui curled the corners of his lips. What was that group's attitude?

It seems this trip is destined to be anything but peaceful; it was definitely a wise move for me to come along.

"Boss, what are we doing up here?" Maido asked curiously.

"Yeah, this place looks so cramped, I wouldn't want to come up here," Xu Tong said without any mercy.

"We'll do nothing, just be spectators," Bai Yuekui yawned.

rumbling~

The platform arrives at the outer ring of the lighthouse.

Shattered Star and his companions instinctively gripped their weapons, ready to defend themselves and retaliate at any moment.

The hunters were in a accusatory mood, but to their surprise, very few people came to greet them today. In the past, the place would have been packed with people cheering.

At this moment, apart from the staff in charge of the elevator platform, there were several core executives including Jingnan, Victor, Jessica, and Carrie. As for the Guangying Club and the Law Firm, who love to join in the fun, they were all nowhere to be seen.

"Has the medicine been found?" the loyal Victor asked anxiously.

"Got it." Mo Cheng handed him the box.

"Okay, I'll get right now—what happened to Mark?" Victor asked, seeing Mark lying motionless on the stretcher.

"Mark?!" Jingnan's expression changed, and he exclaimed.

Mo Cheng's face was grim and murderous. "He was ambushed by a beast and is on the verge of death."

Jeff chimed in, "Dr. Carrie, please take a look. You must save Mark."

Carrie lowered her head with interest and fiddled with Mark's neck and arms. "Even though I'm the head of the medical department, do I really need to get involved in something as trivial as this? His heart is still beating, and his breathing is quite steady."

Feixue remained silent, turned Mark over, revealing his bare back.

In an instant, Carrie and the others gasped in unison, several of them taking a step back in fright.

"Spine Worm?!" Carrie exclaimed in astonishment, a hint of mad scientist's delight in her voice.

"What exactly happened! Who ambushed him?" Jingnan asked, his voice filled with shock and anger.

"Of course it's our great leader," Xuefeng said coldly.

Victor frowned. "I'll go and deliver the medicine to the city lord first. Mark is in your care. Don't be impulsive. We'll talk about it when the city lord wakes up."

After saying that, he left without stopping with his two attendants, completely unaware of Erii and her group walking behind the hunters.

"Okay, take him to the operating room," Dr. Carrie ordered swiftly.

Two veterans immediately carried Mark and followed, while the rest neither accompanied him nor returned to the Hunter Base immediately.

"Where did everyone go? It's so quiet." Mo Cheng asked with a stern face.

"The execution ground," Jingnan replied.

Everyone was startled. Erica quickly asked, "Burning at the stake? Has someone violated the Three Laws again?"

"Wait, could it be those two city garrison soldiers?" Jeff asked, a sudden thought striking him.

Jing Nan nodded, saying with a complicated expression, "We gave them a few days to consider, but last night, both of them firmly stated that they would not admit their mistakes. Hilda said that she would stay with Orland even if it meant death, and that the Light and Shadow Society was just a bunch of deceitful liars who angered Charles, so even Seng couldn't be protected."

She paused, then continued, "They must have heard about Mark breaking into the Dawn Hall to rescue Ran Bing, and that influenced them."

It is clear that Mark's move was tantamount to toppling the first domino. People living in the repressive era of the Lighthouse were already suffering immensely. After all, the Three Laws violated biological instincts, suppressed emotional nature, and ignited class contradictions. They were all holding back and would eventually explode.

In order to nip the chain reaction caused by Mark in the bud, Charles took advantage of Morgan's unconsciousness and announced the public burning at the stake, attempting to make an example of him and suppress the restless thoughts of others.

"Burning at the stake? When does it start?" Erii stepped out from behind.

"About ten minutes left, oh wait? You're Ms. Erii!" Kagami answered subconsciously, but her eyes changed slightly after taking a closer look, because there were several unfamiliar faces following behind her.

Several guards immediately drew their guns and aimed them, but slowly lowered them at Jingnan's signal.

"They are all survivors from the ground. Mark was able to come up alive thanks to her," Mo Cheng explained, treating Bai Yuekui and the others with great respect and courtesy.

Jing Nan looked at Bai Yuekui and the others in disbelief, "Are there really so many survivors on the ground?"

"Where is Charles?" Jeff and Mexico asked in unison.

"The burning at the stake will be presided over by the Light and Shadow Society, assisted by the city defense army. He'll be there too," Jingnan answered instinctively, his heart skipping a beat. "What are you planning to do?"

"To break them out of the execution ground," Erii replied calmly, her face expressionless.

"We're here to demand an explanation!" Fei Xue said in a chilling tone, entering a new dimension.

"I really want to know Charles's thought process, to pry open his brain and see if it's full of shit." Xuefeng was almost laughing in anger.

While Jingnan was still in shock, Erii, led by Mo Cheng, had already taken the lead.

All the hunters drove armored vehicles, their vehicle-mounted machine guns constantly loaded with ammunition, and heavy artillery pieces cocked in unison, heading in a grand procession to the execution ground located on the outer ring.

"Do you regret it?" Hilda asked in a low voice.

"No, to understand one's own heart before death means this life has not been lived in vain." Orland was a true man who dared to act on his convictions.

"It's a pity we can't live a peaceful life together. If only we hadn't been born in the Lighthouse, if only we had lived in the old world—" Hilda was overcome with grief and on the verge of tears.

"For me, that's enough. To know you, to have so many people witness our happiness," Orland smiled. "It's a bit like the wedding you mentioned?"

The two were led by the officers of the law institute to a metal-cast pyre, through which a huge, dark fire-breathing vent could be seen.

"Wedding? Ha, you'll only turn to ashes in agony. How dare you insult the Headmaster and defy the authority of the Lord of Light and Shadow? Burning you at the stake is merciful; you should be torn to pieces." Fan Lu mocked, having overheard the conversation.

As she spoke, she kicked out twice with force, and Orland and Hilda bent their knees and knelt down side by side, facing the dense crowd of onlookers from all directions.

Deacons from the law institute surrounded the area, all clad in armor equipped with electric spears for close combat, exuding an indifferent aura that kept strangers at bay.

Further out, four heavy city defense units stood, and new heavy city defense units were deployed in all directions, armed to deter those with ill intentions.

The city's garrison soldiers stood in straight formation, keeping the whispering commoners at a distance, while the upper-class people looked down from the second and third floors, discussing the matter with various expressions.

On a higher terrace, Charles stood proudly with his hands behind his back, flanked by Senger and Ned on either side.

A deacon ran over looking frightened and whispered something to Ned.

Ned frowned and immediately said to Charles, "My Lord, the Hunters are back."

"Oh? They brought the medicine back?" Charles chuckled, feigning composure.

"Yes, but Mark seems to be seriously injured," Ned said gravely. "They're on their way here, and Erii is inside, along with several other surface survivors!"

"Excellent! Perfect timing to wipe them all out in one fell swoop," Charles's face twitched, his eyes contorted with rage. "Senger, give the order to the city garrison to prepare for battle. Anyone who opposes us, anyone who opposes the Lighthouse, is to be killed without mercy!"

He looked down into the communicator and said, "Let's begin."

Upon receiving the order, Fanlu immediately waved her hand, and the surrounding discussions instantly ceased. As she solemnly and earnestly recited the hymns of the Light and Shadow Society, a group of law enforcement officers responsible for lighting the fires stepped forward.

Bang bang bang!

Machine guns pointed skyward, flashes of fire appearing.

The deafening gunshots, like thunderclaps, brought the execution by burning to a halt.
