Chapter 24: Something's Wrong

On June 3rd, there were no classes in the photography department in the morning, so Su Yu and Wang Boxue made an appointment to go to Luo Jing.

Luo Jing had a performance class in the morning, in teaching building number three. After Su Yu and Wang Bo finished their class, they waited downstairs for a while, and then Luo Jing slipped out of the back door of the classroom.

"Did you ask for me?" Su Yu asked directly.

Luo Jing nodded, his expression somewhat subtle: "I asked, and she said it's okay."

Su Yu was taken aback: "So quick?"

"I told her you were a junior in the photography department, won the Berlin Golden Bear, and wrote ten songs, and I wanted to thank her for her recommendation. After hearing that, she said..." Luo Jing paused, mimicking Liu Yifei's tone, "'Ah, he's that Su Yu. I really like his songs. Let's have dinner together.'"

Su Yu was secretly thrilled, but maintained a nonchalant expression: "Okay, when? Where to eat?"

"She said she'd be free at noon today, and the Cantonese restaurant outside the school would be fine; nothing too fancy."

Su Yu felt it was a bit stingy to invite Liu Yifei to a Cantonese restaurant, but since she was the one who suggested it, he couldn't really object.

He thought for a moment, "Okay, let's go to a Cantonese restaurant. It's my treat. You and Wang Boxue can come too, it'll be less awkward with more people."

Luo Jing smiled and said, "You invited Liu Yifei to dinner, and you dragged us along as third wheels?"

"What do you mean by 'third wheel'? This is normal social etiquette. She's a young woman, and I'm the only one treating her to dinner. What would people say if they found out?"

Wang Boxue nodded in agreement: "That makes sense. I'll go too, to support you."

Luo Jing glanced at him: "You're going there to freeload, aren't you?"

"Can't you just see through it but not say anything?"

Su Yu ignored their bickering, his mind preoccupied with one thing: what exactly does Liu Yifei look like?

He had seen it countless times on television in his past life, but had never met it in person.

She appears ethereal and otherworldly in TV dramas; I wonder what she's like in real life.

.....

Luo Jing went back to the classroom, while Su Yu and Wang Boxue waited downstairs.

After waiting for about ten minutes, the bell rang to signal the end of get out of class.

Students gradually came out of the teaching building, and Su Yu spotted her at a glance.

When Liu Yifei walked out of the teaching building, Su Yu's first reaction was, "Why does this girl walk without any gust of wind?"

With long hair cascading down her shoulders, wearing a white dress, canvas shoes, and carrying a light blue canvas bag, she looked like an ordinary college student.

That face was so distinctive that it shone like a lamp in the crowd, making everything around it pale in comparison.

Su Yu took a deep breath and walked up.

"Hello, senior sister. I'm Su Yu from the Photography Department, Class of 04. Thank you for recommending my song in the media. I'd like to treat you to a meal to express my gratitude."

When he said this, his voice was more steady than he had expected.

Liu Yifei stopped and glanced at him.

Her eyes were bright, and the corners of her mouth were slightly upturned, carrying a faint smile.

"Ah, you're Su Yu." Her tone was very casual, as if she were talking to an ordinary junior. "I only found out from Luo Jing that Su Yu is from our school. I've listened to your song, it's really good, so I just mentioned it casually at the press conference. No need to be so polite."

Su Yu thought to himself: "You just mentioned it casually? That casual remark of yours propelled my song from obscurity to the Top 5. If you had seriously recommended it, would I have been able to perform on the Spring Festival Gala?"

Su Yu said, "Senior sister is too modest; in any case, your recommendation has been a great help to me. Please do me the honor of attending."

Liu Yifei tilted her head, pretended to think for two seconds, and then smiled: "Okay then, but it doesn't need to be too formal, a Cantonese restaurant outside the school is fine."

"Okay! A Cantonese restaurant, at noon?"

"it is good."

Su Yu turned and walked away, only realizing after a few steps that his back was covered in sweat.

Wang Boxue, standing beside him, lowered his voice and said, "Your voice was trembling when you spoke just now."

"No, right?"

Yes, you just don't realize it.

Su Yu rolled her eyes at him and didn't say anything.

.......

Noon, at a Cantonese restaurant.

Su Yu arrived ten minutes early, chose a private room by the window, ordered a pot of tea, and sat down to wait.

Wang Boxue and Luo Jing arrived first, and sat on either side of Su Yu, like two door gods.

"What are you so nervous about?" Luo Jing asked, watching Su Yu keep turning his teacup.

"I'm not nervous."

"Then why are you spinning the cup?"

"I'm practicing my finger strength."

Luo Jing shook his head, picked up his teacup, and took a sip.

Five minutes later, Liu Yifei pushed the door open and came in.

She changed her clothes, wearing a white T-shirt, light blue jeans, and her hair was tied in a ponytail, looking more casual than in the morning.

Following behind her was another girl with shoulder-length short hair, a round face, and a sweet smile.

"This is our class monitor, Wang Jia," Liu Yifei introduced with a smile. "She said she also wanted to try this Cantonese restaurant, so I brought her along. You don't mind, do you?"

Su Yu quickly stood up with a smile: "No problem at all, it's more fun with more people. Senior sister, please sit down."

Wang Jia greeted everyone with a smile and sat down next to Liu Yifei.

The five people sat around a table, and the atmosphere was more relaxed than Su Yu had expected.

Wang Boxue was a natural at making friends, and after chatting with Wang Jia for a few minutes, they instantly became closer.

Luo Jing didn't talk much, but he could always respond to every sentence. Su Yu sat diagonally opposite Liu Yifei, trying his best to appear natural.

.......

Halfway through the meal, Luo Jing suddenly put down his chopsticks and looked at Su Yu, "Junior brother, how's your new script coming along?"

Su Yu was munching on a piece of char siu when he mumbled, "It's finished; the first draft is done, but we're still revising it. If all goes well, we'll start filming this summer."

"Filming to begin during summer vacation?"

"I have that plan."

Wang Jia asked curiously, "What script? Is it a feature film?"

Su Yu wiped his mouth: "Yes, a feature film. A youth film called 'Our Times'; it tells the story of an ordinary girl who has a crush on the school heartthrob."

Wang Jia's eyes lit up: "That sounds interesting. Have you found the female lead yet?"

Su Yu shook his head: "Not yet, we're still looking."

Luo Jing leaned back in his chair, his gaze sweeping back and forth between Su Yu and Liu Yifei, a slow smile creeping onto his lips. Su Yu's heart skipped a beat when he saw that smile; Luo Jing was about to stir things up.

Sure enough, Luo Jing spoke up: "What are we still looking for? Aren't there two senior sisters here? And one of them is currently very popular."

Wang Jia blinked, looked at Luo Jing, and then at Su Yu.

Liu Yifei paused for a moment as she picked up some food, her chopsticks hovering in mid-air before slowly putting them down.

She picked up her teacup and took a sip, her expression calm as if she hadn't heard anything. Su Yu noticed that her earlobe twitched.

Su Yu scratched his head awkwardly, thinking to himself: Luo Jing, aren't you pushing me into a fire pit?

Who is Liu Yifei? I'm just a freshman in college who hasn't even graduated yet. Asking her to act in a feature film? Isn't that like a toad trying to eat a swan?

"Luo Jing, what are you talking about? My senior sisters have such full schedules, how could they have time to film my low-budget movie?"

Liu Yifei put down her teacup and looked at Su Yu, her gaze carrying something Su Yu couldn't understand.

A slight smile played on her lips as she spoke unhurriedly, "Tell me first, what's the story?"

Su Yu was taken aback. She didn't refuse?

He organized his thoughts and began to tell the story of "Our Times." He kept it brief, finishing in three minutes without embellishment.

After finishing his explanation, Su Yu added, "Of course, the script is still being revised, and there are many imperfections. If you're interested, I can send it to you; if you're not, that's fine too."

After listening, Liu Yifei did not answer immediately. She picked up a piece of poached chicken, slowly dipped it in ginger and scallion sauce, put it in her mouth, and chewed it slowly.

After finishing her meal, she wiped her mouth and said something that Su Yu didn't expect.

Send me the script, I'll take a look and then decide.

Suppressing his excitement, Su Yuqiang said in as calm a tone as possible, "Okay, thank you, senior sister; I'll send it to you when I get back."

Wang Jia watched this scene from the side, a meaningful smile playing on her lips.

She nudged Liu Yifei's arm and whispered something. Liu Yifei glared at her, and Wang Jia immediately shut up.

Su Yu didn't notice this little gesture; his mind was completely occupied with the thought that Liu Yifei wanted to see his script.

Liu Yifei might star in his movie; he can brag about that for the rest of his life.
