Hong Kong film: Rise of Prison Break

Chapter 67 Poisoned Bait and Trapped Beast

"Hmm." Zhang Wenjie took the cold remote control, casually weighed it in his hand, as if it were not a switch that could determine the life and death of several people, but just an insignificant little gadget.

His gaze was fixed on the dazzling and surreal Hong Kong nightscape rushing past the car window, his eyes deep and thoughtful.

"Pack up, get ready to go," he finally said, a hint of barely perceptible anticipation in his voice. "After all this buildup, after going through all this trouble... it's time for the grand finale."

Having spent so much time, energy, and "moral points" to lay this inescapable trap, if it were merely to eliminate someone like Liu Yaozu, it would have been a piece of cake for Zhang Wenjie.

In his hands, Liu Yaozu could die in a million ways, crushed and molded, utterly powerless to resist.

But what he wanted was not just one person's life.

He needed a "clean" shell—the Lu Group.

A perfect platform that can be used to "launder" money and conduct larger-scale capital operations in the future.

Simply eliminating Liu Yaozu by violence is easy, but ensuring a smooth transition of power within the Lu Group without attracting excessive attention and bloody speculation from the outside world (especially the police and the Commercial Investigation Bureau) requires more sophisticated planning.

Robinson Crusoe, a lonely old ghost, is nearing seventy. After his ordeal in Stanley Prison, he is physically and mentally damaged. How many more years he has left to live is unknown.

Helping him clear his name and "liberating" him from prison may seem like releasing a tiger back into the mountains. An old man with no ties, who has regained enormous wealth and control of the company, will have no restraint in his revenge and actions. He is indeed an extremely sharp knife.

But, could this knife turn around and hurt me instead?

Will Robinson, now reborn and empowered, turn against them?

Zhang Wenjie looked down at the black remote control in his hand, and the corners of his mouth slowly turned up, forming a cold, resolute, and almost cruel smile.

He will ensure that this knife always points in the right direction.

Inside Qian Wendi's "safe house" deep inside a tenement building, the air was murky, filled with the smells of sweat, dust, and a faint rust.

Jin Tianqi, his limbs tightly bound with rough hemp rope and his mouth stuffed with rags, writhed and rolled on the floor like a maggot out of water, making muffled "ooh" sounds. Veins bulged on his forehead, and his eyes were filled with fear and pleading. He left sweaty marks on the floor.

"No need to rush."

Qian Wendi didn't even look at him; her voice was frighteningly calm.

He walked to the low cabinet, opened it again, and confirmed that the "bearer bond" inside, carefully sealed in a plastic bag, was intact.

He ran his fingers through the plastic film over the numbers representing enormous wealth, a complex glint flashing in his eyes before his gaze returned to its icy coldness.

He restored the cabinet to its original state, and even wiped away dust that wasn't actually on the top of the cabinet.

"Wait for me... soon." He turned around, pulled out the stun gun that had caused him so much suffering, and fired two more shots at the writhing Kindaichi on the ground, expressionless.

"Tap tap!" The blue light flashed.

Kindaichi's body stiffened abruptly, then he convulsed violently, his eyes rolled back, saliva dribbled from the corner of his mouth stuffed with rags, and he went completely limp.

Qian Wendi stepped forward, grabbed Jin Tianqi's greasy hair, and dragged him like a dead dog to the old small refrigerator in the corner of the room.

He roughly pulled open the refrigerator door, rummaged out the several cans of beer and some leftovers inside, and threw them on the floor.

Then, he forcefully twisted the limp Jin Tianqi's arms and legs, and shoved him into the cramped cold storage room in an extremely awkward position.

Jin Tianqi's head was tilted to the side of the partition, his body curled up, almost filling the entire space.

"Bang!"

Qian Wendi slammed the refrigerator door shut, shutting out the faint sobs and struggling sounds from inside.

He walked to the window, turned sideways and hid behind the dirty curtains, revealing only one eye, and cautiously peered down at the apartment entrance.

In the darkness, a familiar figure in a tight dress and high heels hurriedly walked toward the tenement building, glancing left and right from time to time. It was Lili.

A cold smile appeared on Qian Wendi's lips.

He turned around, quickly gathered up the stun gun and scattered wires on the ground, put the needle back in place, and tucked the gun into his waistband.

Then, he stood quietly behind the peephole of the door, his left hand gently resting on the doorknob from the inside, his right hand gripping the stun gun tightly again, his body slightly arched, like a cheetah ready to pounce.

"Clack clack clack..." The sound of high heels tapping on the old cement stairs came from afar, carrying a unique, slightly sharp rhythm, echoing in the quiet corridor, becoming clearer and clearer.

Finally, the footsteps stopped at the door of the room across the street.

Immediately following was a rapid knocking on the door, accompanied by Lili's deliberately low but barely concealed anxious voice: "Open the door! Jin Tianqi! It's me! Open the door quickly!! Something's happened, Qian Wendi seems to have escaped!"

She knocked on what Jin Tianqi and Lili thought was their "secret love nest," which was next to Qian Wendi's safe house.

Qian Wendi slowly and silently turned the doorknob on his side, opening the door a narrow crack.

A sliver of dim light shone through the hallway, illuminating half of his face hidden in shadow. He didn't go out immediately, but continued to wait.

Lili knocked on the door for a long time without getting a response, becoming even more impatient and raising her voice: "Jin Tianqi! Are you dead in there? Open the door! Stop playing around!"

Just then—

"Lili..."

A deep, hoarse voice, as if coming from the depths of hell, sounded right next to the back of Lili's head.

"Ah—!!!" Lily's hair stood on end instantly! She turned her head sharply, and when she saw the familiar yet incredibly sinister and terrifying face behind her, extreme terror made her open her mouth to let out a scream that could pierce her eardrums!

However, the screaming stopped abruptly after it had only just begun.

"Click!" A soft sound, like an electric spark exploding.

The stun gun in Qian Wendi's hand was already pressed against her waist.

Lily convulsed violently, her eyes widened in disbelief, her pupils dilated, and then she collapsed with a thud, as if her bones had been removed, losing one of her high heels in the process.

With a blank expression, Qian Wendi bent down, grabbed Lili's long, permed and dyed hair, and dragged her limp body into his room without any tenderness.

Then, he peeked out, quickly glanced at the empty hallway, gently closed the door, and locked it.

"Long time no see..." he whispered to the unconscious woman on the ground, his tone neither revealing nostalgia nor hatred.
