Police station, interrogation room.
Two team members took turns using coercion, intimidation, and inducement to try to pry Wu Sheng's mouth open and solidify the charge of colluding with a cult.
Wu remained silent throughout, keeping his eyes down for most of the time, only briefly denying when questioned.
However, he was ultimately inexperienced—under the invisible pressure, a dangerous thought still sprouted and lingered in his heart—with his actual cultivation level of the sixth level of Body Tempering, he could easily subdue the two people in front of him in an instant if he suddenly launched an attack.
But he suppressed the impulse. If he acted, he would give his opponent ammunition, and all sorts of accusations would be immediately proven true, playing right into their hands. Then, he would truly be unable to defend himself.
"Click".
The door was pushed open, and Kunlong strode in, his gaze sweeping over the room.
"Captain, this kid is really stubborn and won't listen to reason," a team member reported, sounding somewhat annoyed.
Kunlong glanced at Wu Sheng, who was still sitting there with his back straight, and frowned slightly. He had originally thought that this young man from out of town, who had suddenly entered an unfamiliar environment, was inexperienced and would easily lose control of his emotions and do irrational things if he was intimidated or provoked, at which point he could be easily manipulated.
Unexpectedly, this kid is so calm and collected.
But Xu Wenbo has already received his bribe, and the matter must be settled. If it drags on any longer, the martial arts academy will probably come knocking on our door demanding our release.
Just then, Wu Sheng, who had been silent all along, suddenly raised his head, looked directly at Kunlong, and spoke in a low but exceptionally clear voice:
"What benefits did Xu Wenbo give you to come after me?"
Kunlong's eyes narrowed slightly, then he chuckled, concealing his momentary surprise: "Benefits? I'm just handling this case according to the law, based on a real-name report, and doing my job properly."
Wu Sheng met his gaze for a moment; his face, hidden in the shadows, revealed no expression, only his eyes shone with an astonishing light. He spoke again, each word slow and clear:
"What he can give, I can give in the future... I can even give more."
These words caused Kunlong to lose some of the arrogance on his face. He re-examined the young man before him.
"That's interesting." Kunlong suddenly smiled, his expression ambiguous.
He waved his hand and said to his two subordinates, "You two go out first. Lock up everything that needs to be locked up."
The two team members exchanged a glance, understood each other, and immediately got up and left the interrogation room, turning off the monitoring equipment as they did so.
……
Meanwhile, Danxin had already led Zhang Yong and the others to the police station. He went directly to a police captain he knew well.
"Old Lin, one of my new students from the martial arts academy just arrived in the city today. He was brought back by your people on the pretext of colluding with a cult. The person leading the team is a vice-captain named Kunlong."
Upon hearing this, the captain, known as Old Lin, immediately frowned, his eyes flashing as he roughly understood what was going on. He turned to his subordinates behind him: "Is that so?"
The subordinate whispered, "Yes, Captain. I did see Deputy Captain Kun bring a young man back just now, and they went straight into interrogation room number three."
"Kunlong isn't my direct subordinate, so... it's not appropriate for me to interfere directly." Old Lin frowned. "In that case, I'll report to my superiors immediately and ask them to make a decision."
He could certainly go directly to Kunlong and ask him to release the man, but that would inevitably cause friction with Kunlong's direct superior, and it wasn't worth it for such a small matter. Reporting it to higher authorities was the safest approach.
Soon, the report received a response. The superiors couldn't be bothered with such a trivial matter, and simply gave the order: "If there is no solid evidence, release them as soon as possible, don't delay things at the Martial Academy."
……
Inside the interrogation room.
The door was pushed open again, and a team member strode in.
At this moment, Wu Sheng was kneeling on the ground, one hand tightly clutching his abdomen, fine beads of cold sweat seeping from his forehead, his face pale, as if he were enduring excruciating pain. Kunlong stood not far in front of him, slowly and deliberately moving his wrists.
"Captain," the team member glanced at Wu Sheng on the ground and lowered his voice, "the director has sent word to release him."
Kunlong seemed unsurprised, merely giving a curt "hmm." He walked up to Wu Sheng, looking down at the boy who was gritting his teeth and enduring the pain, his tone calm yet carrying a cold warning:
"Kid, this is just a small lesson. Remember, in the inner city, if you're a dragon, you have to coil up; if you're a tiger, you have to lie low. As a person... you have to know how to bow your head."
Wu Sheng did not respond, keeping his head down, his loose black hair covering most of his face.
Kunlong straightened up and waved to his teammates: "Take him out."
Two team members stepped forward, pulled Wu Sheng up from the ground, and half-helped, half-dragged him out of the interrogation room.
Soon, Wu Sheng was brought before Zhang Yong and the others.
"We've brought him out, take him back." Danxin glanced at Wu Sheng casually, and seeing that he was unharmed, prepared to turn and leave.
"Wu Sheng, how are you?" Zhang Yong immediately stepped forward, looking Wu Sheng up and down with concern. When he noticed Wu Sheng's slightly pale face, his brows furrowed sharply: "They made their move?"
Wu Sheng nodded.
"Lord Danxin, this..." Zhang Yong looked at Danxin, who had not yet gone far.
Danxin paused slightly, turned half his face to the side, and spoke in a calm tone, yet with the realism and indifference unique to martial artists: "If you haven't lost an arm or a leg, and haven't been beaten half to death, the Martial Academy won't interfere in such matters. The inner city has its own rules, and minor frictions are inevitable."
He paused, his gaze seemingly casually sweeping over the several police officers eavesdropping nearby, before speaking clearly, "If he has the ability, he can naturally seek revenge himself. Once you've established yourself at the martial arts academy, and even become an instructor in the future... ha, then if their nephews or grandchildren run into you, how you guide them will be entirely up to you, won't it?"
These words caused the expressions of the police officers to change slightly, but none of them dared to utter a word in rebuttal. After Danxin finished speaking, he strode out without lingering. Seeing this, Zhang Yong and the others quickly followed with Wu Sheng.
……
On the way back to the Martial Arts Academy.
"Instructor Zhang, thank you so much again," Wu Sheng said in a low voice, his tone sincere.
"It's my duty." Zhang Yong waved his hand, more concerned about his condition, "How badly is the injury? Does he need medication?"
"It's alright, I just need to adjust my breathing." Wu Sheng shook his head.
Seeing that although his breathing was a little disordered, his eyes were still clear, Zhang Yong breathed a slight sigh of relief: "That's good. Once you're settled, I should return to the outer city." He patted Wu Sheng on the shoulder and said earnestly, "From now on, in the inner city, you'll have to rely on yourself for everything. Be careful in everything..."
"I understand." Wu Sheng nodded solemnly.
After bidding farewell to Zhang Yong and the others, Wu Sheng silently followed behind Dan Xin toward the magnificent yet unfamiliar martial arts academy building.
Although the crisis had passed, the cold, powerless feeling of being at the mercy of others in the interrogation room, and Kunlong's condescending face, were deeply etched into his mind. Also resurfacing was that brief, private exchange known only to the two of them.
