The tent didn't provide much shade, and Lu Chen, inside, figured it was getting dark. Just as he was about to speak, Matsumoto Kiyoko stood up.

"Let's go out, it's almost dark."

Lu Chen swallowed the words he was about to say and followed Matsumoto Kiyoko out of the tent.

Stepping out of the tent, Lu Chen saw Murakami Takayuki, who was accompanied by four Japanese men who appeared to be officers.

"Ms. Matsumoto, Mr. Riku, this is the company commander, and these three are squad leaders."

Murakami Takayuki introduced himself to the others and said that the four of them would be keeping watch over the granary that night.

Kiyoko Matsumoto glanced at the four people, nodded, and walked over without saying a word.

As Lu Chen passed by the group, he nodded to the four of them, which eased their awkwardness.

"We'll stay here and keep an eye on it, to see how the grain disappeared."

The group arrived at the tent directly opposite the granary, from where they could see the granary gate.

Lu Chen and the others nodded in agreement. Among them, Matsumoto Kiyoko held the highest position, so of course they would listen to her.

Kiyoko Matsumoto stepped into the tent first. The tent was neither too big nor too small, and it could comfortably accommodate the six of them.

"Squad leader, please go first."

Lu Chen stepped aside, revealing a polite smile, and let the four Japanese army captains go in first.

"Yoshi."

Lu Chen noticed out of the corner of his eye that Matsumoto Kiyoko was staring at him, which made him feel a strong sense of crisis. This woman had completely doubted him.

Lu Chen didn't know what this woman had learned from that phone call. Ever since he received that call, she had been looking at him with a scrutinizing gaze.

"Hasn't he arrived yet?"

He was secretly anxious. The rat had returned early in the morning, and he wondered if Wang Deming had received the news.

And even if he receives the news, will he launch an attack?

Lu Chen didn't know that if they didn't attack, the food supply was a minor issue; he just wanted to figure out what was said in that phone call.

"Lu Chen, why did you join the Special Higher Police?"

Kiyoko Matsumoto looked at Lu Chen and spoke calmly.

The others all turned their gazes to Lu Chen upon hearing her words.

Under the watchful eyes of five Japanese officers, Lu Chen took a deep breath, stared into Matsumoto Kiyoko's eyes, and spoke.

"I never thought about joining the Special Service. I started out as a translator for Huang Dayong, and then after Colonel Kuroda ran out of translators, he would sometimes ask me to translate for him."

"Then I discovered several anti-Japanese elements, and that's when Colonel Kuroda recruited me into the Special Higher Police and the Intelligence Section."

Lu Chen revealed the reason why he joined the Special Higher Police. It wasn't a secret, and there was no point in hiding it, so he might as well be open about it.

When Matsumoto Kiyoko investigates and finds that she was telling the truth, she might even stop doubting herself.
