Spy War: My Cheat Code is a Rat
Chapter 77 is a bit exciting.
As you walk out of the gate of the Special Forces, there is already a Japanese military vehicle parked there.
Kiyoko Matsumoto led Lu Chen into the military vehicle, her brows furrowed the entire time. Lu Chen remained silent, and the car started moving as soon as they got in.
They drove out of the Japanese concession and headed towards the Chinese-controlled area.
The grain disappeared overnight?
Looking out the window from the car, Lu Chen could guess from the description that the grain must have been stolen by rats.
Taking me on this investigation was probably to test my abilities.
Lu Chen thought to himself, then decided that he would have to put in some effort later. Even if he couldn't find anything out, he had to make his team leader think more highly of him.
"Team leader, the grain has disappeared overnight? Where did it go?"
Lu Chen looked at Matsumoto Kiyoko and asked.
"Are you really curious to know?"
Kiyoko Matsumoto smiled faintly at Lu Chen and spoke softly.
Lu Chen paused, not understanding what she meant, and nodded slightly after a few seconds.
"Yes, I want to know more about the situation so that I can better help the Empire find the real culprit."
Lu Chen was very serious, and whenever he talked to the Japanese, he would show his loyalty, both openly and secretly.
"The frontline granaries, which were meant for the soldiers, all vanished overnight yesterday, leaving no trace."
Kiyoko Matsumoto gave Lu Chen a deep look and then spoke to him.
Taking Lu Chen along this time was indeed a mission assigned by Sato Yosho, to test Lu Chen's reconnaissance abilities.
Lu Chen remained silent, seemingly lost in thought, but inwardly he had a different idea.
"Shu San and his men succeeded! Now that the Japanese can't find the mastermind, they'll definitely send even more food over. After all, the front lines can't be without logistical support, so we'll have plenty of food ourselves!"
Thinking this, Lu Chen even felt a little excited. He turned his head to look out the window, and the corners of his mouth unconsciously turned up, unseen by anyone.
As the car traveled through the Chinese territory, looking out the window, Lu Chen estimated that they had reached the edge of the Chinese territory, as most of the area was ruins ravaged by artillery fire.
Is this the front line?
Lu Chen did not hear any gunshots, so it seemed that the two sides were currently at a truce.
"I wonder how many more people have died."
Looking at the ruins, Lu Chen couldn't help but mutter to himself.
The car stopped, and by the time Lu Chen came to his senses, he found himself in the Japanese camp.
"Get off the bus, we've arrived."
Kiyoko Matsumoto spoke and got out of the car with Lu Chen.
As soon as they got off the bus, a Japanese officer ran up to them, jogged up to Matsumoto Kiyoko, and saluted. Matsumoto Kiyoko returned the salute, and Lu Chen quickly followed suit.
"Miss Kiyoko, my name is Murakami Takayasu, and I am the commander-in-chief of this operation. I appreciate it if you could come here."
Murakami Takayuki looked at Matsumoto Kiyoko, extended his hand, and the two shook hands.
"This is my team member, Lu Chen. Where's the granary? Take us there."
With a smile, Matsumoto Kiyoko introduced Lu Chen, who was standing next to her.
The two greeted each other again. Lu Chen glanced at Murakami Takayuki several times before finally imprinting his appearance in his mind.
With the rat not around, the task of remembering the enemy falls to me.
There is not much difference between Japanese and Chinese people. Lu Chen's fluent Japanese made Murakami Takaan mistake him for a Japanese person.
"This way, please."
Murakami Takayuki led the way, with Lu Chen and Matsumoto Kiyoko following behind him.
Along the way, Lu Chen truly witnessed what it meant to have a guard every three steps, as well as many wounded Japanese soldiers.
"Many Japanese soldiers are wounded; we can control the rat swarms to weaken their strength."
Upon seeing the wounded, Lu Chen immediately thought of Huang Dayong. He would use the same methods he used against Huang Dayong to deal with them, without revealing his identity, and at the same time weaken the Japanese army's manpower.
Thinking of all this, Lu Chen immediately decided that when he got back that night, he would call Rat One and have him bring some rats to take care of these wounded Japanese soldiers.
"This is the granary. It was full yesterday, but it's empty overnight."
Murakami Takayuki led the two to the granary, his face grim. He had sent people to investigate several times, but they hadn't found out a single useful piece of information.
Only then did he reluctantly inform his superiors, who then dispatched the Special Intelligence Division to investigate.
Lu Chen and Matsumoto Kiyoko entered the granary, which was empty except for some rice grains and white powder scattered on the ground.
"Captain Murakami, are you sure this place was full yesterday?"
Before Matsumoto Kiyoko could speak, Lu Chen squatted down, picked up a grain of rice, and asked Murakami Takaan without turning his head.
"Yes, they all disappeared overnight. The guards said they heard noises at night but thought it was just rats nearby, so they didn't pay much attention."
Murakami Takayuki answered, providing even more clues.
"Even if there are rats, how many rats would it take to empty this entire granary? That's just too unrealistic."
Kiyoko Matsumoto looked around the granary, shook her head, and calmly spoke.
Lu Chen nodded in agreement. No matter how hard they tried, they couldn't have imagined that it was the rats who had emptied the place.
"I also think that's too unrealistic, but in this situation, who could have quietly emptied the granary? There are guards stationed at the entrance of the granary, who are rotated every five hours, watching the granary without sleep. Only the squad leader and I have the key to the granary."
Lu Chen and Matsumoto Kiyoko walked out of the granary, with Murakami Takayuki following beside them, explaining his analysis.
"Here's what we'll do, Captain. Have the higher-ups send over some more grain. If that guy isn't caught, he'll definitely do it again. This time, I'll keep an eye on him myself."
Kiyoko Matsumoto thought about it and realized that there were too few clues at the moment, and even the suspect could not be identified. So she came up with this idea.
"Well, it's not impossible."
Murakami Takayuki nodded. As things stand, this is the only way that will work.
Even after getting back into the car, Lu Chen had a slight smile on his face. He really didn't expect that Matsumoto Kiyoko would say she would send another batch of grain over. Wasn't that just giving it to him for free?
"Lu Jun, you seem very happy?"
Kiyoko Matsumoto closed the door, looked ahead without glancing at Lu Chen, and spoke casually.
"Ah, actually. It's my first mission, and it's been quite interesting."
Lu Chen casually told a lie, and Matsumoto Kiyoko nodded, then fell silent.
This is what it's like for a newbie on their first mission. When she first joined the intelligence department, she was very excited about going on missions. But the novelty wore off after a few more times.
"Tomorrow night, I'll come with you and keep watch all night to see who managed to steal so much food without anyone noticing."
Kiyoko Matsumoto clenched her fist, her voice trembling with excitement. She had felt that the missions she carried out before were not difficult at all, and she could catch them in no time.
Whether it was searching for anti-Japanese elements or catching internal traitors, she could follow the clues and uncover the truth as long as there was even the slightest trace.
Emptying the entire granary was no small task, yet they left behind only a few grains of rice and flour, without a single clue.
Kiyoko Matsumoto graduated from the Japanese Army Academy, the best military academy in Japan, and her talent in criminal investigation was the best in her class.
She became a team leader not long after joining the Special Intelligence Division. This was her first time encountering such a mission, so she was quite excited.
