Demon Slayer: I am a Demon

Chapter 27: What is Uncle's food?

A ray of dawn pierced through the clouds and fell into the room through the window. Before the sunlight filled the entire room, Su Mu had already crawled under the bed and hidden in the hole he had dug.

As the chestnut blossoms fell, Kanao climbed into bed, following her uncle's instructions.

The white bedding was soft and had a faint scent of soapberry.

Lying on such a soft bed, Kanao Ayumi, who used to sleep on prickly straw at home, felt a sense of unreality. She found it hard to adapt to all of this all at once, and a strange sense of panic welled up inside her.

However, the thought of my uncle being there made me feel inexplicably at ease.

Sleepiness washed over me, my eyelids grew heavier and heavier, and before I knew it, I was drifting off to sleep.

…………

Not far from the town

Several hermits had begun searching for the ghost's trail before sunrise, and now they were also rushing here in search of the ghost's trail.

Once you get there, the footprints left by the evil spirits completely disappear.

"there is none left……"

After searching carefully for a long time, it was confirmed that the footprints disappeared here. Obviously, the evil spirit should not have been running fast here, so the footprints it left on the ground would not be so heavy, and would be no different from those of an ordinary person, so it was impossible to continue the pursuit.

Unable to continue the investigation, the "Hermit" immediately sent the message back.

Soon, Hiroshi Furukawa arrived and stopped where the footprints disappeared. While listening to the hermit's narration, he couldn't help but raise his head and look at the town ahead.

This is a bustling town. It's only just dawn, and there are already quite a few people at the city gate. People from all directions are starting to come and go through the city gate.

"They've gone into the city to hide; this is a bit troublesome."

Hiroshi Furukawa frowned. The town was too bustling; a demon disguised as a human hiding inside would be like a drop of water in a river, attracting no attention whatsoever.

"Can you find out who entered the city last night?"

Hiroshi Furukawa asked the hermit beside him.

"It's too difficult. So many people enter the town every day; it's impossible to track them all down."

The Hermit shook his head. Although the Demon Slayer Corps had its own intelligence sources, only the government could obtain such information. Moreover, even the government would need to expend a great deal of manpower and military force. Furthermore, the Demon Slayer Corps was not an officially recognized organization.

"Boss, what should we do?"

One of the swordsmen who came with Hiroshi Furukawa was somewhat annoyed.

Hiroshi Furukawa frowned slightly, but still said, "Those cruel demons can no longer completely hide their tracks. They are not human after all, and they cannot stand the light. There will naturally be a way to find them."

"Damn it, you filthy devil."

The swordsman cursed, "Why can't you just obediently let us cut off your neck with our Nichirin Blades?"

Hiroshi Furukawa raised his head and looked at the bustling town ahead. He continued to say to the hermit, "I will have to trouble you to send more people to investigate this town, especially the underground waterways, basements, and places where there is no sunlight during the day."

"no problem."

The Hermit nodded.

"Also, starting today, keep a close watch on the city for any missing persons. If any are found, be sure to conduct a thorough search of the dark areas where they have disappeared, where the sun cannot reach them."

Hiroshi Furukawa placed his hand on the hilt of his Nichirin Blade: "These demons, these 'human-devouring' demons, can't resist their lust for flesh and blood; they'll always show themselves."

"it is good."

The hermit immediately withdrew.

Hiroshi Furukawa turned to his companions and said, "We'll stay in this town from now on until we slay this demon."

"No problem, boss."

One swordsman answered immediately, and the others nodded in agreement.

"Everyone, continue to rest and conserve your energy for the battle should we encounter evil spirits tonight."

…………

When the sun hangs high in the sky, it is the time of day when the sun is shining brightly. After sleeping for half a day, Kanao also slowly wakes up.

The room was clean and bright, with warm sunlight streaming in through the window, making it feel cozy.

I couldn't help but reach out my hand

You can feel the warmth inside.

In the past, she would have loved the warm sunshine, but now she felt a bit disgusted by it. She disliked the sunshine, which was something her uncle didn't like, and he even hid underground because of it.

Unconsciously, the chestnut blossoms fell. Kanao leaned over and peered under the bed. Under the wooden board, her uncle lay in the darkness, on the cold floor.

I really wanted to go in and stay with my uncle. It might be cold inside, the ground might be damp, and there might not be the soft bedding and warm temperature of the bed I'm on right now... but my uncle is inside.

"woke up?"

A gentle sound came from under the wooden plank.

"Um."

Kanao nodded, immediately jumped off the bed, crawled under the bed, and lay down next to the wooden plank covering the hole in the ground.

"Are you hungry? If you are, go out and get some food from the boss."

I'm not hungry.

"Chrysanthemum petals fall," Kanao said softly.

"Coo coo..."

No sooner had he finished speaking than his stomach rumbled softly.

"You said you weren't hungry, but your stomach is growling."

Lying on the cold ground of the cave, Su Mu couldn't help but chuckle: "Go out and get some food from the landlady. Remember to close the door before you leave."

"it is good."

The chestnut blossoms fell. Kanao was very obedient. Although she wanted to stay here with her uncle, she crawled out from under the bed and went outside.

Following his uncle's instructions, he closed the door and went to the hotel counter.

Having been instructed beforehand, the proprietress knew that Suhua Luo and Kanao were there to get food, and said with a smile, "Little girl, please wait a moment, I'll go to the kitchen and bring it to you."

Returning from the kitchen, the proprietress handed a plate full of food to Kanao Aoi, asking with some curiosity, "Why didn't you have your husband serve it?"

As the chestnut blossoms fell, Kanao slightly raised her eyes, said nothing, and simply turned around, carrying the tray back to her room before closing the door.

The proprietress touched her nose, but helplessly returned to the counter.

After closing the door, Kanao Aoi immediately took the plate and crawled under the bed. The aroma of the food on the plate made Kanao Aoi swallow involuntarily, but the girl did not eat it.

"Eat quickly."

Su Mu sensed these things beneath the wooden plank and spoke with a smile.

"Uncle, would you like some too...?"

The chestnut blossoms fell. Kanao really wanted to eat, but she didn't touch the food.

"I won't eat it."

Su Mu shook his head.

"But Uncle hasn't eaten at all, he must be feeling very unwell."

As the chestnut blossoms fell, Kanao bit her lip slightly.

"This isn't my food; eating this won't do me any good."

The cave was pitch black. Su Mu shook his head.

"What kind of food does Uncle eat?"

This was the first time Kanao had asked such a question, but Su Mu remained silent in the dark cave.
