Legend of the Heroes of Another World's Divine Tower
Chapter 2 Witnessing the Death Scene
The mist, like a heavy shroud, clung to the forest. It was so dark that you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. In the silence, you could only hear your own non-existent heartbeat—fortunately, Zhou Yanyu was in a soul state, so this suffocating darkness didn't frighten him.
"It's so dark! Can you turn on the light?" he couldn't help but complain.
Before he could finish speaking, a violent white light suddenly exploded in front of him.
"Mom! You go quickly! I'll stop him!"
Zhou Yanyu suddenly "opened his eyes," his gaze quickly focusing.
A pale-faced, black-haired youth stood with his arms outstretched, shielding a stunningly beautiful but disheveled elven woman. Beside them, a corpse clad in a black cloak lay pierced by a halberd, blood gushing from its wounds.
There were also three things on the ground that looked like lanterns, but they emitted a golden light.
"Run!" the boy roared as he turned around, his voice distorted by fear and desperation, his thin shoulders trembling violently.
"Where are you going! Look at the halberd!"
A chilling shout echoed from the deepest darkness of the forest. The next second, a massive, dark blue halberd, shimmering with the light of rippling water, pierced through the air with a sharp whistle, precisely and ruthlessly penetrating the boy's chest!
"Ugh—!" The boy's body suddenly arched, and he spat out blood.
"Chi'er!" The elven woman let out a piercing scream, lunged forward like a madwoman, gripped the halberd shaft with both hands and pulled it out with all her might, ignoring the splattering blood that stained her cheeks and dress.
She pressed her trembling hand onto the boy's horrific wound, and a soft green healing light surged forth, but it seemed unable to keep up with the speed at which life was slipping away.
Step, step, step.
The heavy footsteps sounded like a death knell. A tall, stern-faced elven man with pointed ears slowly emerged from the shadows, a strange "lantern" also hanging from his waist.
He raised his hand, and the blood-stained blue halberd flew back into his grasp with a "whoosh." He didn't even glance at the dying boy; his cold gaze was fixed on the elven woman.
"Ailuo Sibel! Do you know your crime!" His voice was like the scraping of ice. "You have secretly mated with a human, giving birth to a filthy elven hybrid! You have violated Article Twenty-Eight of the Elven Codex! Immediately cease resistance, return with me to your people, and undergo the 'Rebirth' purification!"
The elven woman, Aurora, ignored the rebukes. All her will was focused on the fading green light in her palm. Tears mingled with blood streamed down her face, her lips trembled, and she could only murmur repeatedly, "Hold on... Chi'er... Hold on..."
"Resisting is futile!" The elven man's eyes flashed with a sharp light, his patience exhausted. "This bastard who has tarnished our bloodline deserves to die! You save me once, I kill you once, until the teleportation array brings you back!"
"He's not!" Aurora looked up abruptly, her eyes flashing with a terrifying light. "He's my child! My Chi'er!"
She roared furiously, and a semi-transparent emerald green protective shield suddenly rose around her, firmly enveloping her and the dying boy.
"A death throes." A cruel smile curled at the corner of the elven man's lips. His aura exploded, the ground beneath his feet trembled slightly, and the surging energy waves demonstrated his absolute strength at level fifty-seven. In comparison, Aurora's level thirty-two power seemed so insignificant.
Without another word, he swung his halberd, unleashing a torrent of tidal power, and slammed it hard against the protective barrier!
"Bang!" The shield shook violently, its light flickering. Ai Luo was struck as if by a heavy blow; her face turned deathly pale instantly, and she spat out another mouthful of blood onto the inner wall of the shield.
"Screw you!" Zhou Yanyu, floating above, scratched his head in frustration. In his soul form, he punched and kicked at the elven man, but each time his attacks passed right through, having no effect whatsoever. He could only watch helplessly as the cruel shadow of the halberd fell again and again.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
With each heavy blow, the light of the shield dimmed a little, and Aurora's body trembled violently. Her golden hair turned gray strand by strand at a visible speed!
That was the price of the elves' life essence—the elven blood essence—burning wildly!
"Get out—!!!" Finally, just as the shield was about to shatter, Aurora let out a blood-curdling scream. The shield suddenly expanded outward, unleashing a powerful shockwave that temporarily forced the elven man back a few steps.
"Burning essence blood?" The elven man steadied himself, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes, which was then replaced by deeper mockery. "Foolish! In the face of absolute level suppression, nothing is of any use!" He attacked even faster, his halberd transforming into a blue phantom, relentlessly bombarding the increasingly thin shield.
"Go to hell! You beast! Stop it!" Zhou Yanyu roared in vain, his eyes bloodshot.
Just then, the boy inside the protective shield trembled and struggled to lift his eyelids.
With all his might, he raised his bloodstained hand and tugged very lightly at Ai Luo's clothes. His chapped lips moved, his breath barely a whisper.
"Mom... let's go..."
Aurora lowered her head, her face streaked with blood and tears, yet she managed a tender, almost comforting smile for the boy. She gripped her son's cold hand even tighter, the light of her healing magic shining fiercely.
"Chi'er, don't be afraid," she said softly, but with unwavering determination, "Mommy's here. Mommy will definitely heal you... even if it costs me my last drop of blood."
However, reality was cruel. Behind the elven man, the air began to distort violently, and a vortex-shaped azure portal spun rapidly, emitting a low hum. A powerful suction force surged from it, pulling at everything around it—fallen leaves, pebbles, and the struggling protective barrier and the mother and child within.
Time is up.
"It's time for you to fully understand that everything you've done has been a waste of time!"
The elven man used a drop of his blood essence to enhance his attack.
"Tidal Fury! Halberd! Go!"
With a roar, the halberd seemed to come alive, bursting with dazzling blue light. Surrounding the halberd, surging waves of phantom light appeared out of thin air, emitting a deafening roar!
The violent water energy slammed into Ailuo like a heavy hammer, pushing her and the remaining protective shield backward!
Click—!
The shield, already riddled with cracks, finally gave way and shattered completely like broken glass, turning into countless points of light.
With its final barrier gone, the halberd carrying destructive power was no longer an obstacle. It transformed into a deadly stream of blue water, piercing the boy's chest once more with unavoidable speed!
"Pfft!"
The halberd tip pierced through his back, pinning the boy's frail body firmly to the cold ground. The boy shuddered, unable to even utter a cry of pain, and the light in his eyes quickly dimmed.
"Chi'er—!!!"
Aurora was knocked to the ground by the tidal forces, and as soon as she looked up, she witnessed a scene that terrified her. She let out a heart-wrenching scream and struggled to get up and rush to her child.
But the elven man would not give her another chance. He coldly raised his hand and waved it, and the surrounding water vapor instantly condensed, forming a huge transparent water sphere that enveloped Aurora and suspended her in the air.
"Ugh... let... let me go! Chi'er! My Chi'er!"
Ai Luo frantically slapped and kicked the flexible yet sturdy water wall inside the water sphere, her fingernails leaving powerless marks on the water wall.
She stared at the lifeless figure on the ground with bloodshot eyes, tears streaming down her pale face, mingling with the bloodstains from before.
She opened her mouth and screamed, cursed, and begged with all her might, but her voice was completely blocked by the thick water. All that came out were the dull, desperate "thump-thump" sounds and a series of helpless bubbles rising to the surface.
The elven man watched the woman's silent breakdown unfold within the water sphere with an expressionless face, his eyes devoid of any emotion, only the coldness of someone who had completed their task.
Without further delay, he turned and stepped into the rotating portal, with the water sphere imprisoning Aurora silently floating behind him.
With a flash of light, the portal closed. The forest returned to darkness and silence, leaving only a scene of devastation and the boy's body, pierced by a cold halberd, slowly losing its warmth on the earth.
