Chapter 9 Encounter with Beedrill
The image shows a butterfly with a deep blue-purple color and huge white wings with black veins on its back.
Suddenly, it flapped its wings violently, creating visible ripples in the air. The next second, an invisible wind blade shot out, slicing a rusty, abandoned car in two! The ear-piercing sound of metal tearing apart was still chilling even after video compression.
The screen was instantly flooded with comments like "Holy crap!", "That power!", and "That's terrifying!"
"This is Butterfly, the final evolutionary form of Caterpie."
The video was paused in the forest, the image frozen on the moment the butterfly turned and flew away.
"The move it uses is called 'Air Slash,' a very powerful ranged attack among flying-type attacks. Its power is indeed enough to cut through metal and destroy vehicles."
He then changed the subject: "But please note the background of this video. It was filmed at a car recycling plant that has been abandoned for many years, and humans have long since left."
Zooming in on the corner of the forest road reveals that the fence at the edge of the abandoned site has long since rusted and collapsed, overgrown with vegetation.
"The Butterfly colony considers that area its territory. The intruding convoy, with its noise, vibrations, and exhaust fumes from the unfamiliar machinery, is seen as a serious provocation and invasion."
After turning off the video, Lin Dao's tone became exceptionally serious.
"I want to emphasize that Butterfree is essentially a gentle Pokémon."
"Their most dangerous ability is not actually air slashing, but the tiny scales on their wings—hypnotic powder, paralyzing powder, poison powder, which can put those who come into contact with them into a state of sleep, paralysis, or poisoning."
He took a few steps closer, and the caterpillar seemed to sense the movement, stopped crawling, raised its head, and turned its Y-shaped antennae toward them.
But Lin Dao immediately stopped, slowly squatted down, and lowered his height.
"Look, it's observing us, but it's not running away or attacking. That's the instinct of most Pokémon—to assess the threat first."
The caterpillar looked at them for a few seconds, seemed to determine that there was no danger, and continued its crawling journey.
"So, if you encounter a Butterfly or its kind in the wild," Lin Dao stood up and patted the fallen leaves off his knees.
"The best approach is to maintain a distance of at least twenty meters, back away slowly, avoid sudden large movements, and do not look them directly in the eyes, as that may be interpreted as a provocation."
"If you accidentally trespass into the territory and see a Butterfly in the sky, immediately stop moving forward, raise your hands and slowly back away."
"Usually, they won't chase you as long as you act harmlessly. Remember not to run, as that will trigger your predator instincts."
"As for the caterpillars," Lin Dao looked back at the little creature on the tree trunk.
"It's actually one of the Pokémon that's suitable for beginners to train. It evolves quickly, it's easy to build a bond with, and it can learn Electric Net with early training."
"In my world, there was a famous Pokémon Master who was once caught in a Caterpie's electric net..."
Lin Dao stopped talking in time and coughed twice.
"In short, although the caterpillar is at the bottom of the food chain, its potential and value are far more than they appear on the surface. Every life deserves respect and understanding."
The comments section changed noticeably at that moment:
"So that's the story behind that horror video..."
"So we broke into their home first?"
"The caterpillar is working so hard, crawling so diligently."
"I want to raise one, so I'll start by breeding a green caterpillar."
"The anchor is right, every life deserves respect."
"Every life deserves respect +1"
Li Hao looked at the live chat comments and whispered to Lin Dao.
"Brother Lin, the trend in the comments has really changed; there are far fewer comments expressing doubt and fear."
Lin Dao nodded slightly, but his gaze remained fixed on the deep forest ahead: "This is just the beginning."
"It's relatively easy to get people to accept gentle Pokémon; the real test is whether people can remain rational when faced with truly aggressive species."
The two set off again.
Not far along, Lin Dao spotted a new target.
Sunlight filters through the leaves, casting warm dappled patterns on its verdant body.
"Look at that clump of bushes, everyone." He pointed to a dense thicket of low bushes.
The camera focuses, and viewers see a small, yellow insect-like Pokémon with a sharp horn on its head and its body divided into several segments.
"This is Weedle," Lin Dao explained. "Like Caterpie, it's a Bug-type Pokémon, and it's very weak in the early game."
"But its final evolution is the Beedrill, which is what you often call the 'killer bee'."
The chat immediately tensed up:
"Killer bees! Those monsters that can pierce steel plates!"
"My uncle's farm was attacked by a swarm of killer bees!"
"Run, streamer!"
Lin Dao didn't panic. Instead, he squatted down to observe carefully: "Unicorn beetles usually live under the protection of bee colonies."
"Beedrill is a social Pokémon with a strong sense of territory and an instinct to protect its young. Therefore..."
He suddenly stopped, his expression changing slightly.
On the map of the Arceus phone, two red dots are rapidly approaching each other.
"Li Hao," Lin Dao said in a low voice, "look at the two o'clock position."
Li Hao turned his head, his face instantly turning deathly pale.
About fifty meters away, two large yellow and black bees were flying low, their compound eyes flashing with a dangerous light, and their stingers gleaming coldly in the sunlight.
Worse still, they seemed to be searching for something, their flight paths resembling a search.
As soon as he finished speaking, the Arceus phone suddenly emitted a slight alarm vibration.
The map shows two red dots rapidly approaching each other!
"Oh no!" Lin Dao's expression changed. "Weedlings usually live under the protection of Beedrill, and Beedrill are social insects! These two must be the guard bees that discovered their offspring were missing!"
Almost as soon as he spoke, two large bee-like wasps rushed out from the depths of the forest.
They are about one meter long, with a menacing yellow and black striped body, and three poisonous needles on their hands and tails that gleam coldly in the sunlight.
His compound eyes flashed with anger, clearly indicating that he had already identified Lin Dao and Li Hao as the two "suspicious individuals".
Beedrill
Level: 22/24
Attributes: Insect, Poison
Characteristic: Insect Premonition
Moves already learned: Double Needle, Wild Strike, Follow-up Attack...
Physical condition: Healthy
Current emotion: Anger
"Run!" Lin Dao grabbed Li Hao's wrist and turned to flee.
Li Hao felt a tremendous force come over him, and he was almost lifted off the ground.
Lin Dao's increasingly strong physical abilities were fully displayed at this moment. He pulled Li Hao along as they sped through the forest, nimbly dodging trees and jumping over fallen logs at an astonishing speed.
They ran for nearly two hundred meters in one go until they could no longer hear the bee's wings flapping.
Lin Dao put Li Hao down, whose legs were so weak he could barely stand.
Li Hao collapsed to the ground, his face deathly pale: "That was...that was terrifying...that poisoned needle almost pierced me..."
Lin Dao leaned against the tree trunk, panting, but with a smile on his face: "Now you all understand, right? This is the real world outside. There are docile caterpillars, but also extremely aggressive beedrill. The key is to learn how to identify them and how to deal with them."
He looked at his phone screen; the comments section was already flooded with messages.
"Wow, that was so exciting!"
"Beedrill is so fast!"
"The streamer runs even faster! Is that human speed?"
"Are people from another world all that fast?"
"Learned something: if you see a unicorn beetle, run away quickly!"
"So you can't keep unicorns as pets, right?"
Lin Dao calmed his breathing and said to the camera, "Weedle can be kept as a pet, but only under professional guidance, and you must be able to handle its evolved form, Beedrill. Every Pokémon has its own characteristics, and understanding and respecting these characteristics is the foundation for coexistence."
