Chapter 5 "From Another World"
When Lin Dao returned to the camp, he found Li Hao holding up his phone with the camera pointed in the direction he had just been.
On the phone screen, the comments were so numerous that the image was no longer visible.
"What did I just see? He's healing a monster?"
"Those little monsters didn't attack him!"
"That dog-like monster woke up! But it didn't bite him!"
"Is the world crazy, or am I crazy?"
"Host, quickly ask who this handsome guy is!"
"You're saying those are Pokémon? What are Pokémon?"
"He touched the monster's head! The monster let him touch it!"
"This must be a movie shoot, right?"
"But I don't see any cameras..."
Seeing Lin Dao return, Li Hao awkwardly put down his phone: "Um... the audience was so curious, they kept messaging me, so I..."
Lin Dao waved his hand to indicate that he didn't care. He took the phone and looked at the comments on the screen, which were filled with fear, curiosity, suspicion, and malice, and felt a mix of emotions.
These reactions were within his expectations, but seeing them in person still left him feeling heavy-hearted.
He knew that changing people's mindsets would take time, and that was exactly what he lacked most right now.
Every day of misunderstanding could lead to more hatred and conflict between humans and Pokémon.
He took a deep breath and pointed his phone camera at himself.
A young but determined face appeared on the screen.
Although his hair was messy and his clothes were simple, there was an indescribable persuasiveness in his clear eyes.
Sunlight streamed down from his side and behind, gilding his silhouette with a golden edge.
The barrage of comments instantly became much denser:
"He's got his phone! He's about to speak!"
"That guy is so handsome!"
"What are Pokémon? Explain yourself!"
"Was that scene real? Or was it special effects?"
"Who exactly is he?"
"Does the government know that such people exist in the wild?"
Lin Dao adjusted his breathing and spoke in a clear, steady voice:
"Hello everyone, I'm Lin Dao."
He paused for a moment, and this simple self-introduction silenced the live chat for a brief instant. Then he continued:
"First, let me clarify one thing—I am not from this world."
This statement is like a stone thrown into a calm lake, creating ripples all around.
"What? People from another world?"
"Time travel? You've been reading too many novels, haven't you?"
"How is that possible!"
"But that explains why he's not afraid of monsters..."
"Is he an alien?"
"No wonder he knew the names of those monsters!"
Lin Dao ignored the doubts and continued speaking:
"I come from another world, a world where humans and Pokémon have coexisted for hundreds of years."
He paused slightly, adding in his mind: Although in my world, I only know about that world through games and animations.
"Where we live, humans and Pokémon are not enemies, but partners. People live, work, grow, and even fight alongside Pokémon. Pokémon help us, and we help them. We have built a relationship based on mutual respect and understanding."
He turned and pointed to the Pokémon group by the stream.
The camera then pans across the scene, capturing this heartwarming moment: the Oddish curiously peers in this direction, Mushroom peeks out from behind a rock, Lilyroot shyly droops its leaves, and Growlithe, though still lying down, tries to raise its head and gently wags its tail at the camera.
"As you can see," Lin Dao's voice softened.
"I was just treating an injured Growlithe, what you call a 'monster.' But I must tell you, they are not monsters."
His tone became serious and firm:
"They are Pokémon, the spirits of the world, the inhabitants of this new world, and the life that shares this land with you."
The comments started scrolling again:
"But they attack humans!"
"There's a monster near my house that can shoot electricity; it's shocked several people!"
"How do you explain that monster from the Mexican volcano that killed so many people?"
"Easy for you to say. Do you know how many people have been injured because of monsters?"
Lin Dao did not shy away from these questions. He looked directly into the camera, his eyes sincere:
"The conflict is real. I understand everyone's fear and anger."
"But think about it, if we suddenly appeared in a strange world, and were seen as monsters by the locals, attacked, driven away, and killed, what would we do?"
He let the question linger for a few seconds before continuing:
"We can fight back, defend ourselves, feel fear, and get angry. Pokémon are the same. They are not emotionless machines; they can get hurt, feel pain, protect their companions, and feel gratitude."
He pointed to the Growlithe again: "That Growlithe lured away the powerful predator alone to protect its weaker companion. Doesn't such courage and sacrifice deserve respect?"
Different opinions began to emerge in the live chat:
"But...it's a monster after all."
How do you know what it's thinking?
"What if it attacks humans after it recovers?"
Lin Dao shook his head and said, "I'm not saying all Pokémon are harmless. Just like there are good and evil among humans, Pokémon also have different personalities and habits. Some Pokémon are gentle by nature, some have a strong sense of territory, and some may even be hostile to humans, just like there are criminals among humans."
He then changed the subject: "But most Pokémon won't attack you for no reason, as long as you don't threaten them, invade their territory, or harm their companions. Fear often stems from the unknown, and violence often stems from fear."
At that moment, a comment caught his attention: "You say you come from another world, what proof do you have?"
Lin Dao thought for a moment, then took the Gene Wedge off his neck and held it up to the camera.
At the center of the wedge-shaped silver pendant, a sapphire shimmered with a mysterious luster in the sunlight.
"This is called a Gene Wedge, a special item in Minecraft," Lin said.
"It allows me to communicate with certain special Pokémon. I know it sounds incredible, but please give me a chance to prove it."
He put the pendant back on and continued, "My purpose in coming here is to build a bridge."
"Let humans understand Pokémon, and let Pokémon understand humans. Knowledge is the best weapon to eliminate fear, and understanding is the only way to resolve hatred."
Lin Dao's voice became stronger: "I know this is difficult. I know many people have lost loved ones and friends, and I know fear has taken deep root."
"But if we continue this confrontation, there will only be more sacrifices, not only human sacrifices, but also the sacrifices of these lives that could have been our partners."
He paused, letting his words settle.
"I'm not asking everyone to immediately accept Pokémon, nor am I saying that all conflicts can be avoided. But I hope that everyone is at least willing to learn about it and try to understand it."
Lin Dao turned the camera to himself, revealing a tired but hopeful smile:
"So, I've decided to do something. Starting today, I will be introducing Pokémon to everyone through live streams, teaching you how to identify them, understand their habits, how to live safely with them, and even how to become their partners."
His eyes were resolute.
"This won't be easy, it could be dangerous, and I might encounter countless doubts and opposition. But I will prove with my actions that Pokémon are not monsters, but rather the best friends and partners that humans can become."
Finally, he extended an invitation to all the viewers in front of the camera.
"If you're curious, if you'd like to learn more, please follow this live stream."
"If you are afraid, if you have doubts, please stay and see."
"I don't ask everyone to believe me immediately, I just want to give everyone another perspective, another possibility."
After Lin Dao finished speaking, he handed the phone back to Li Hao, who was already dumbfounded.
After a brief pause, the comments on the screen surged in like a tsunami:
"I...I want to believe him."
"That's crazy, but why do I feel like he's telling the truth?"
"Host, keep going! I want to watch!"
"Does the government know about this?"
"Those Pokémon certainly don't look like monsters..."
"Growlithe protects the weak, which is much better than some people."
"But what about those who have died?"
"Shouldn't we at least give him a chance to prove himself?"
"I've followed him. I want to see just how far he can go."
Li Hao looked at the rapidly scrolling barrage of comments and the soaring number of followers, which had already surpassed 50,000 and was still growing rapidly, and then looked at the mysterious young man in front of him.
He suddenly realized that he might have unwittingly gotten involved in something terrible.
"You...you really want to do this?" Li Hao's voice trembled slightly.
"Do you know what this means? You'll become the target of everyone's hatred. Some people will admire you, but many more will curse you, and some might even want to hurt you..."
Lin Dao nodded and said, "I know. But if no one steps forward, the relationship between humans and Pokémon will only get worse. Someone has to take the first step."
He glanced at the sky. "That's enough for today, let's turn off the live stream. We need to prepare for the night, and Growlithe needs further recovery."
Li Hao nodded, his fingers trembling as he closed the live stream.
The moment the screen went dark, the world seemed to suddenly quiet down, with only the sound of flowing water and the occasional birdsong from afar remaining.
The Pokémon on the other side seemed to sense something.
The Oddish lined up in a row, facing the camp, and shook their leaves in unison, as if in greeting.
Growlithe struggled to its feet, and though its steps were unsteady, it resolutely headed towards the direction of the forest path, letting out a weak but clear bark:
"Woof!"
The voice carried far in the twilight, as if responding to Lin Dao's words, or as if announcing the beginning of a new era.
Lin Dao touched the Gene Wedge on his neck, and the light flowing within the sapphire seemed to shine even brighter.
"Three Dragons of the Dao, are you watching?" Lin Dao thought to himself. "Although I still don't know how to find your split-off existences and gain your approval, at least I've taken the first step."
Li Hao clumsily began setting up the tent, while Lin Dao gathered firewood to start a fire.
As the sun completely sank below the horizon, the sky gradually changed from orange-red to deep blue, and the first star began to twinkle.
After the tents were set up and the campfire was lit, Lin Dao took out the last of the Orange Berries, went over to the Pokémon, and shared them with them.
The Growlithe was able to stand up with difficulty. After eating the berry, it walked to Lin Dao's side and gently rubbed against his leg.
Back at the camp, Li Hao had already cooked a simple dinner: ordinary fish and wild fruits caught in the forest.
The two ate in silence, each lost in their own thoughts.
"Um..." Li Hao finally broke the silence, "Are you really from another world?"
Lin Dao nodded: "Yes. A world where humans and Pokémon coexist peacefully."
"So how did you get here?"
"We were chosen," Lin Dao said briefly.
"Some beings believed I could help both worlds, so they sent me here. The specific details are very complicated, and I haven't fully figured them out myself."
Li Hao seemed thoughtful: "So you really are... the 'chosen one'?"
Lin Dao smiled wryly and said, "I'd rather say I'm just an ordinary person who was thrown into a strange world, and just happens to know some things that this world doesn't know yet."
As night deepened, the campfire crackled and popped.
The cries of an unknown Pokémon echoed from the distant forest, but this time, Li Hao felt not pure fear, but a mixture of curiosity.
"What are we going to do tomorrow?" he asked.
"I'll start with a live stream to formally introduce Pokémon to the public. I want more people to see what Pokémon is really like," Lin said.
"Aren't you afraid of being arrested and studied? Or being treated like a madman?"
"I'm afraid," Lin Dao said honestly, "but I'm even more afraid of doing nothing and watching the two worlds head towards an irreversible conflict."
Li Hao remained silent for a long time before finally saying, "I'll help you. Although I don't know much about Pokémon, I know how to stream, how to attract viewers, and how to deal with various opinions online."
Lin Dao looked at him and said sincerely, "Thank you."
That night, Lin Dao slept very lightly, constantly paying attention to the sounds around him.
Growlithe and his companions rested by the creek, occasionally making soft noises.
The Arceus phone's map function was always on, monitoring for signs of life in the vicinity.
