Chapter 28 Hope Through the Lens
In front of the camera, Lin Dao and Li Hao stood together.
The background, with the still-busy rescue scene, is itself incredibly impactful.
"Hello everyone, I'm Lin Dao."
"I am Li Hao."
After a brief opening, Lin Dao cut straight to the point without any preamble, his tone calm and candid:
"As you can see, the camp behind us has now become a temporary relief point."
"Many of you may already know that air raid sirens sounded in Chengdu today, and a large-scale forest fire broke out in the south. Here, I will explain the specific situation to you."
He paused, letting the camera pan across the bustling scene around him and the injured Pokémon.
"The immediate cause of today's incident was that a group of spies and armed personnel, acting on orders from abroad, infiltrated deep into the forest in an attempt to steal the egg of a powerful Pokémon, Salamence."
He paused for three seconds, letting the information settle. The live chat exploded with comments:
"Stealing eggs?!"
"A Salamence? Is that the one Teacher Lin warned about before?!"
"Spies? Foreign forces? Holy crap!"
"My God, isn't this just asking for death?"
"And then? Did Salamence get angry?"
"Stealing someone's child? That's utterly despicable!"
Lin continued, his tone calm but each word clear and forceful:
"Their plan succeeded; they did steal the egg. But the consequences were far beyond what was expected. After discovering their child had been stolen, the Salamence went completely berserk, indiscriminately attacking everything in the forest and causing massive wildfires."
The camera then shifts to the secondary screen controlled by Li Hao.
From an aerial view taken by a drone, vast stretches of charred forest are shocking, with scattered fires still burning on the black earth, and thick smoke obscuring part of the starry sky.
"This is the consequence of stealing Pokémon babies and angering a powerful being."
Lin Dao said in a somewhat serious voice, "But that's not the point of my broadcast today. The point is what happens next."
"Fortunately, thanks to the timely intervention and joint efforts of the military and police, we successfully recovered the stolen eggs and returned them to the Salamence, calming its anger. Currently, the Salamence has regained its senses, and the fire is basically under control."
He didn't go into detail about the perilous process of finding the egg, nor did he mention the mutation of the genetic wedge; he simply conveyed the results clearly.
What you see now is the disaster relief site.
Li Hao took over the conversation at the opportune moment and operated the equipment in his hands.
The camera followed his directions, meticulously showcasing every corner of the campsite:
Inside a makeshift tent, medical personnel carefully applied ointment to a burned Rattata; a firefighter, working with a marsupial, used specialized tools to clear a fallen tree trunk; several soldiers, with the help of Pidgey, provided water and food to several frightened Pidgeys; further away, other rescue teams moved under the lights, clearing away fire debris.
These scenes shattered the stereotype of "monsters being ferocious" that had persisted for the past three months.
Next, Li Hao switched the camera view from the drone.
The drone first flew over the entire campsite before heading deeper into the forest.
As the image extended, the live stream fell into a brief silence.
The burned woodland looked like huge scars under the moonlight, and the charred tree trunks resembled tombstones; the claw marks left by the rampaging dragons were clearly visible on the ground; and the remains of some animals that did not have time to escape were too painful to look at.
But even more awe-inspiring are the ongoing rescue efforts:
At the edge of a cliff, firefighters used a rope system to descend and rescue a finless jaguar with a broken wing; beside a dried-up streambed, paramedics provided emergency treatment to a severely burned tailed jaguar; and even the Arbok that had once fought the forest trail could be seen using its bandaged body to push aside fallen trees and clear the way for the rescue team.
The most touching scene appeared at the edge of the frame: a mother bear carrying her injured cub was being guided by medical staff towards the medical station.
The circle bear's eyes no longer held fear of humans, only pure anxiety and hope.
The drone continued flying and eventually hovered over the center of the forest.
That place used to be the lair of a Salamence.
At this moment, the area has been reduced to scorched earth, but near the center of the scorched earth, many fire trucks and personnel are already working to prevent the embers from reigniting.
Some smaller Pokémon (who were lingering near human rescuers or receiving help) were also captured on camera.
These real, unedited scenes are incredibly impactful.
"My God... such a huge area has burned!"
"Look, firefighters and doctors are rescuing them!"
"That guy working with the kangaroo is so handsome!"
"They're really cooperating on disaster relief... I'm a little touched."
"So it wasn't a Pokémon attacking for no reason; someone stole its egg first?"
"Those spies deserve to die! They ruined the forest, ruined the Pokémon, and almost ruined our city!"
Just as the comments section was buzzing with discussion, and emotions were shifting from initial shock and fear to anger towards the perpetrator and gratitude for the rescue efforts, a deep, powerful gust of wind came from the sky, approaching from afar.
Everyone looked up.
Against the deep blue night sky, a gigantic figure glided steadily toward them—it was Salamence!
Its flight posture is no longer violent, and its movements are steady.
What's even more surprising is that several Pokémon were standing on its broad back: a majestic Growlithe, a Zigzagoon clutching its scales, and a Pichu perched on its head, excitedly looking around!
The Salamence landed slowly on a relatively open scorched earth outside the camp, stirring up a small cloud of dust.
It lowered its head, and Growlithe, Zigzagoon, and Pichu nimbly jumped down. Then it raised its head, its calm eyes looking steadily toward the forest path and the live stream camera. It let out a gentle growl, as if greeting someone or reporting that it had completed its mission.
At Lindao's request, it went to the edge of the forest to disperse the wild Pokémon that were trying to storm the edge of human cities due to the fright caused by fire and battle, and guided them back to the relatively safe forest area.
He nodded to Salamence and Growlithe, then turned to the camera, raising his voice slightly:
"Look, everyone, this is Salamence. As you can see, it has returned to calm after its children were safely returned."
"It just helped us guide some frightened Pokémon back to the forest, preventing them from wandering into the city and causing unnecessary conflict. Growlithe, Zigzagoon, and Pichu also participated in the operation."
He walked up to the Salamence and gestured for the camera to zoom in.
Salamence is a Dragon/Flying-type Pokémon, known as a "pseudo-legendary" Pokémon, possessing immense power. However, it is not a bloodthirsty monster. As a parent, protecting its offspring is its instinct. Today's disaster stems from human greed and malice, not from Salamence.
The Salamence seemed to understand that Lin Dao was speaking for it. It lowered its head slightly and met the camera's gaze for a moment. There was no longer any ferocity in its eyes, only the weariness after experiencing the calamity, the determination to protect its children, and a trace of subtle, complex scrutiny of the two-legged creatures in front of it. There was gratitude, recognition, and observation.
The live stream chat reached its peak at this moment:
"It looks...imposing, but not scary anymore."
"So Pokémon aren't monsters...they're just like us."
"Pichu and the zigzagoon dared to stand on its back?!"
"Is it helping to guide other Pokémon? This..."
"I suddenly realized that if my child were stolen, I might be even crazier than it."
"So Pokémon really can communicate and cooperate..."
"Thank you, Teacher Lin, and thank you, Flying Dragon (whispering)."
